Megan's POV
The wind was blowing through the trees, softly swaying them throughout the strangely silent night. As we marched into the woodland, the melting snow muffled our footsteps nearly to silence. My skin broke out in goosebumps as I waited in anticipation. My knuckles cracked as I gripped my fists at my sides to stop them from shaking. The sound was startling on the otherwise peaceful night since it seemed to be the only sound in the whole area.
I shivered in terror as the wind suddenly picked up, and a howl could be heard in the distance. They've shown up. They moved in large groups, and the woodland floor was scraped by their hefty footfall. Many wolves filed into a line, following the lead wolf as he burst through the tree line, side by side. Two recognizable individuals walked past a few middle-aged people, which caused my wolf to twitch apprehensively in the back of my mind.
"I warned you not to come here alone." The baritone voice of the master roared. "You disobeyed my commands," I said. I wanted to submit and fall at his feet, pleading for compassion. I had spent years receiving training to do it. Never disobey his command unless you want a long, agonizing death. I battled the impulse to go on my knees as my legs trembled.
Gordon, she has never been obedient. When I sold her to you, I forewarned you about this. The chat is interrupted by a voice I haven't heard since I was a teenager. I began to experience breathlessness as my breathing began to heave. My eyesight grew hazy, and my head felt light.
She was difficult to train, but she was a fierce opponent. She returned to me at least five times the amount I spent for her. I began coughing and gasping for air, which caused everyone to look at me. Two sets of eyes focused on my collapsing form, causing my legs to tremble. Two warm, powerful arms seized me just as I was about to strike the ground and quickly spun me around to avoid their glares.
"Ahh. The bitch seems to have truly found someone who likes her. What, your partner passed away, and she was the finest substitute? Or did she force herself on you since she was a whore and is now pregnant? There, I wouldn't be shocked. My father's intended replacement laughed. It would be her only chance to succeed in life. I was on the verge of crying as he joyfully bowled. I was being hurt and in anguish by the one who was meant to be my lifelong protector.
"Let it be known that she is my mate," I said. Alpha Jason's words rang in my ear, and his arms encircled my trembling form. She is the greatest human being to ever exist, and I consider myself very fortunate to be her partner. I must sincerely thank you because I am honored that she is mine.
To what end? Because she's a bitch? A full and utter shame and a whore?" With a hint of threat, Alpha White questioned.
Naturally not, asshole. for creating her and preventing her from calling her father. You are not worthy of such a title.
You son of a bitch, why? White shouted as Alpha. "You'll pay," she said.
"No, you are because you are such an abhorrent, nasty monster who doesn't even deserve to gaze at the child he has had! Despite the fact that you fathered her, you will never be her father.
Alpha White roared in rage, the goddess-awful hue of dark reddish-purple that I had almost come to recognize on his visage. His forehead vein was swollen and pulsing with rage. The form of Alpha White trembled, suddenly altered, and knelt down in preparation for combat. Just in time for the assault to begin, Alpha Jason released his grip on me and shifted to defend himself. The two groups emerged as soon as their bodies connected, and a bloodbath started. I saw the conflict between the Mountain Ridge pack and the Rouges.
My legs and arms instantly became immobile, yet tears continued to roll down my cheeks despite my inability to move. Vast pieces of flesh and fur were being violently pulled from the sea of the dead. Cries of pain filled the room, and the scent of blood as it spilled onto the ground filled the air. I was forced to witness my pack being massacred while absolutely immobile and helpless. No matter how much training our soldiers had received, their enforcers were effortlessly tearing through them. They seemed to be staring at me with lifeless eyes, accusing me of dragging them into this and then doing nothing to assist.
My chest was mercilessly blasted by a blower, effectively sending me to the ground. My heart was the first part of my body; the scorching fire tore through before moving on to other parts of my body. It was the most agonizing experience I'd ever experienced. I thought I was going to die, but nothing touched me. I blinked wide and gripped my chest in pain. When I turned my head, sheer sorrow greeted me.
Green eyes that were once so vibrant gazed blankly back at me with lifeless dullness. My friend's now-dead corpse lay next to me, his body shredded to pieces and his blood smearing the snow. I let forth a cry of sheer misery. I frantically clawed at the earth to get to him, but it didn't seem like I was making any progress. I yelled once more in anguish. My friend was gone. It was taken from me entirely because I stayed.
There was a chuckle, and then another voice joined in. I looked away from my partner and then down at Master and Alpha White. I kicked my feet in an effort to escape from them. They immediately overcame me and were standing over my helpless body.
My chest was burning, and when I sat up, the agony started to fade. My face felt chilly and moist, and my breathing was uneven. I raised my free hand and wiped my face from the tears. I'd even sobbed when I was asleep. It had seemed so true. I jumped out of fear at the sound of the door being knocked.
"Megan? Are you okay? I overheard you yelling. His head suddenly popped in, and his eyes widened at the sight of my distressed posture.
"Oh, my sweetheart," After softly speaking, he closed the door behind him. He approached me and took my hand in his with care.
"Dream bad?" He queried.
I didn't trust myself enough to speak at this time, so I just nodded. My throat felt dry and painful from shouting, and my chest continued to burn. I saw as the agony subsided gradually as his thumb gently caressed the back of my hand.
"Are you alright?" I nodded as he re-asked.
Would you want to discuss it? With the palm that was once lying over my racing heart, I shook my head no and wiped away more tears.
It is now fine. Why don't you make an effort to unwind and get more rest? Only two o'clock in the morning. As he rose up, he turned the blanket around.
"Wait!" He looked at me as I yelled out. "Can I-" I waited while fiddling with my fingers. "Can I get one of those hugs again?" He gave me a sweet grin as he hugged me.
You can, of course.
