Megan's POV
I kept an eye on the rogues who were in front of us by peering over Alpha Jason's shoulder. Although their commanders had departed a little while earlier, their ranks remained and continued to stare uncomfortably back at us. As his whole body rumbled under me, Alpha let out a loud, guttural roar that served as a message to everyone.
I moaned and hid my head between Alpha Jason's shoulder blades as they eventually turned and started to follow out. My knees were still flimsy and trembling and couldn't support any of my body weight. My muscles were trembling so badly that my brain could hardly control them to move; my arms could not withstand any motion. Alpha was bearing my weight as I was unable to support it, so I had to work very hard to get one arm over his neck.
The sound of his snarl reverberated through the woods as we all stood there, as if nature wanted everyone to hear his order. Before going back and informing Alpha, our troops made certain that everyone had crossed the border and fled the area.
I said, "Thank you." His speech buzzed through his chest, making my cheek and face buzz. "Please go back to your position, and if you are free, go through the pack. Verify that no one is missing and that everyone is safe. Additionally, look for rouges since they could have entered while we were here.
Only the two of us remained as they turned and walked away. His powerful and agile palm was firmly woven inside mine, still holding onto it. His big palm engulfed mine, and I could feel the strength that was vibrating under his skin. I hadn't realized it until now, but his thumb had been pressing on the top of my hand. With each movement of his finger, sparks were exploding between our palms and going into my arm.
He then started moving his arm, and I followed suit. When something warm and soft touched the back of my hand, I yelped. The muscles in his back absorbed the sound from my lips. When his lips lightly touched my skin, the Sparks intensified and were more frequent than before.
"Be calm." While my hand was still on his lips, he said softly. "Are you okay?" His lips were sliding over my skin like silk, and I could feel every movement. My skin warmed with his warm breath, returning it to normal against the cold air. I didn't trust my voice, so I nodded into his back. If I attempted to speak, I knew it would tremble or shatter.

Saying "I'm sorry." I screamed out, very loudly, to be honest, after being exposed as a liar. It was quite insulting of me to lie to the Alpha in front of him like that. I deserved retribution. He placed his lips on the back of my hand one more before removing my arm from his neck. He turned and looked me in the eyes, which gave me away. He was now holding me against him like a captive, keeping me in place so that he could impose whatever punishment he thought was appropriate.
I closed my eyes and braced myself for a hard touch as his second hand approached my face. When his fingertips caressed my skin and calmed it before he violently smacked me, I recoiled in fear. However, he never drew back to punch me and never let go of his hand. He placed his palm on my face, his thumb resting under my chin, and his long fingers reached back to my ear. He lifted my head so it was inclined up towards his, my eyes still closed. His other arm was around my waist, and he was pushing his big, open palm into the small of my back. I opened my eyes in horror to find my body pressed firmly against his. When my eyes met his, I trembled, but not because of terror.
His eyes, which were vivid green, descended to meet mine and drew nearer to me. His eyes had never previously been this close together. His eyes were covered with flecks of various colors, lighter on the inside and fading to darker on the outer. Both of them became more radiant as a grin spread over his lips and a dimple appeared on his left cheek.
I don't mind that you lied, you know. My cheeks heated at the sight of his face getting closer and at being caught. "You're capable of telling the truth, aren't you? It's alright to be frightened. When I turned to look at him, the only thing that caught my attention in the immediate area were the strings on his sweatshirt.
I hushed, "No, it isn't. I responded by returning what they had hurled at me. How I served him well and was one of the countless cowards at his feet.
Say, "Look at me." I slowly raised my eyes back to his after feeling his thumb gently massage my face in a supportive manner. "Even the greatest among us stumble sometimes. We're all terrified of something.
"Really?" I questioned. Years ago, Alpha Pierce taught me that it was never acceptable for an Alpha to quake in fear or to fall to its knees over anything.
The answer is, "Of course I am."
The question "What are you afraid of?" I muttered.
He briefly fixed his gaze on mine before moving gently over my face. My face was softly pulled into his chest as his hand that had been on my cheek slid to my hair. My ear was placed above his heart, and the rapid, hard beats rumbled against it. His face was dropped near to mine as his hands ran through my hair.
"You." He spoke softly into my hair. "I'm worried I'll lose you," As his words sank in, my heart began to pound. After he spoke those words, there was a greater draw between us and I thought I could approach him. I slowly withdrew my face from his chest and turned to face him again.
My hands, which were gripping his shoulders, seemed to be moving independently as they made a gentle glide in the direction of my neck's back. I stood on the tips of my toes, my chest resting on his as my body lifted from the ground. Once again, he rested one of his hands on the base of my spine after gently rubbing my back. One of mine made its way up his neck I could feel the goosebumps that had developed on his skin before becoming entangled in his obsidian hair. He complied by letting go of his head and moving in the direction that my hands were directing him. I stood straighter and leaned in closer to him, putting my lips on his.
The kiss was gentle and lovely, but there was also an undercurrent of intensity that I wasn't really aware we shared. Because the mate link was such a strong force, it was hard to ignore the sparks that flew between us. Slowly, we both turned away from the kiss. I didn't even realize my eyes had closed until I opened them, and when I did, I saw that he had already opened. With a big, happy smile on his face that made my tummy flutter, he was gazing at me.
"Let's return home." In order to hoist and hold me against him, Alpha knelt down and grabbed the backs of his legs. Out of amazement, I squealed and around him with my arms and legs. He laughed loudly and then started to move.
