Aurora and the Heart of Magic Chapter 11

-11

ASLAN’S POV

I had been waiting for a very long time for Aurora to arrive. Rowan had confirmed that she left the den about ten minutes ago.

When ten more minutes passed, I drove the car towards the den. I knew it was risky but I had to find her.

I had moved about a mile from the den when I saw a strange blue light. The light was so bright that I had to close my eyes. When I finally managed to open my eyes the light was gone and a girl was standing there.

You can imagine my surprise when I realized that it was Aurora. I looked around but I couldn’t figure out the source of the light even with my keen eyesight.

Whoever used that power wasn’t someone I wanted to mess with. I stopped the car beside Aurora, pulled her inside, and drove away from there at full speed.

When we were at a safe distance, I stole a glance at Aurora. She was sitting like a statue, paler than the ghost.

“Aurora… what exactly happened there?”

“Ummm…” She muttered and looked up as if she was still in a daze. She drew in a few deep breaths, licked her lips before saying in a hoarse voice, “I don’t know. One minute three wolves were attacking me and the next there was nothing.”

“Seems like you have lost their favor.”

She looked at me like I was speaking a foreign language and said, “Sorry, what?”

“It seems like the wolves don’t want to kill you instead of helping you.”

I regretted the moment those words escaped my mouth. Aurora seemed upset at my words. She stayed silent after that, not bothering to respond to my questions.

Initially, I planned to apologize to her for being inconsiderate but I forgot all about it when I reached the palace.

The guard informed me that they had taken Raina to the cell for punishment. I ran to the secluded room as fast as my legs could carry.

Tyson was about to give the injection to Raina. I fell on his feet and begged, “Brother, please don’t do this… For my sake… I can’t see Raina like this… She had told me that she was going to meet her daughter.

It is my mistake that I forgot to tell you. If someone should be punished it is me…”

He kicked me in the gut and said in a cold voice, “You are right, Aslan. You have become very forgetful. You need to be punished too. So, Raina will be given shots on three consecutive days. You will stay by her side and learn your lesson.”

My ears rang with his words. I was so stunned that I found myself incapable of speech. By the time I gathered my bearings, he had injected Raina and left.

“You must leave before the Lisandi Mratro takes effect,” Raina said cupping my cheeks.

“No way! I will stay with you and help you as much as I can.”

“You don’t have to see me like this…” She whispered and buried her head in my chest.

I took pride in being the King’s brother but right now I felt so useless. I couldn’t even protect my girlfriend from suffering.

AURORA’S POV

Aslan looked very worried when he left. So, I decided to follow him. His strides were long and quick and soon I was left behind.

I found myself walking ahead and taking several turns. I don’t know if it was instinct or something else but I reached the room where Aslan was.

He was kneeling near the bed, holding the hand of the girl lying unconscious. When I went closer I realized that it was Raina.

“What happened to her?” I asked, sitting beside him.

“Tyson decided to carry out the punishment worse than death. If I was strong enough I would have killed her but I am far too selfish…” He replied, keeping his eyes glued to Raina.

I couldn’t see how this punishment was worse than death. Raina looked like she was sleeping peacefully.

“No!!!! Please leave me…. Don’t come near me…. Someone, please save me…. Help!!! Help!!! Someone, please help.” Raina’s cries filled the room. She got up and cowered in a corner.

“I am here with you, Raina. You are safe.” Aslan said, drawing closer to her.

He was about to hold her but she pushed him away roaring, “Stay away from me, Monster. Don’t come near me.”

Aslan tore his hair and cried out, “Raina, please… baby listen to me.”

Raina picked the vase on the table and threw it at Aslan. It hit his head and then fell to the ground, shattering into a million pieces.

Raina let out a scream again before passing out. Aslan picked her up gently and laid her back on the bed. He kissed the top of her head and whispered, “I am sorry love.”

When he looked up his eyes were brimming with tears.

“What happened to her Aslan?”

“She was injected with Mratro. It makes one relive their nightmares. Raina was tortured and almost raped when she on a mission. She will keep reliving that memory again and again…”

“F***! Why didn’t you tell Tyson about this? He wouldn’t have given such a harsh…”

Aslan cut me off before I could complete the sentence saying, “He knows…”

I felt like someone had punched me in the gut. I knew that Tyson was cold-blooded but this was just too much…

“Isn’t there a way t stop this?”

“Tyson has an antidote but I know he won’t give it to me. Aurora, You must go to your room and rest. Raina can get pretty violent…” He said and sat down beside Raina.

I was about to leave when two injections kept on the table caught my eye.

“What are those for?” I asked pointing to the table.

Aslan snorted and said, “Tyson probably wanted to rub it into me that Raina will be given two more shots. So, he left them here.”

My blood boiled with anger and hatred; filling me with an intense urge to make him pay. How could he do this to his own brother?

My face was flushed with anger by the time I reached Tyson’s room. He was standing with his back to the door. He seemed to be lost in deep thought but the moment I entered the room, he spoke up, “Did you have fun trapping Caleb?”

His words tipped me over the edge. I grabbed his arm and stabbed him with the syringe in my hand.

He winced and pulled his hand away. Grabbing the nape of my neck he roared, “What the hell do you think you were doing?”

I couldn’t subdue the smile that formed on my face. “Just giving you a taste of your own medicine.”

His eyes flitted from my face to the syringe in my hand. His eyes widened in surprise but before he could say anything further he dropped to the floor unconscious.
