Nick's POV
I had checked most of the cells and was yet to find Harry or Simeon. I did notice that more prisons were been built and that most of the prisoners were our pack members.
I wondered what their crime was that warranted them being held in chains and watched by mean-looking rogues.
I was about to head out in the direction where I had earlier seen some new prison buildings when I felt something was wrong with Kyle.
I could feel her heartbeat rise and fall as if she was in a panic. I could feel her troubled state and I perched on a tree to communicate with her.
“Are you alright?" I asked her through the mind link
“Oh goodness, thank god. Where are you nick, I need to see you now,” she said in a hurry.
“What is the problem and where are you,” I asked, as thoughts of what could be wrong ran through my mind.
“I was coming to get you and I forgot that I could communicate with you through the mind link. I am heading towards the woods, meet me up” she said.
Just then I saw her fly past me.
“Kyle, I'm behind you,” I said as I instantly flew to where she was. She looked frightened and looked desperate.
“Nick, you need to hurry, Miranda wants to kill your dad,” she spurred out in a hurry.
“What?” I said, unable to get a grab on my emotions.
While a tiny part of me wanted to act nonchalant, there was this other bigger part of me that wanted to run to save him. He may have been the world's worst father, but he was still my father.
“Yes, hurry please,” she said and with that, we both flew back to the packhouse.
We got to my father's window to see that he was all alone and now seated on the bed. He looked very healthy and had his eyes fixed on a spot.
“Wait here,” I said to kyle as I flew into his room.
On closer look, I soon discovered that I was looking at his ghost as his body was still lying lifeless on the bed. From one glance one can tell that he had been strangled with a hand around his neck. He still had his eyes and mouth open.
I said a spell chant and transformed into my human form, his ghost noticed my presence as he turned his eyes to look at me with a smile.
This would be the first time I would be seeing my father smile at me and it broke my heart that he had to die for me to see that.
“What happened to you? Who did this?” I asked him as I drew closer to him.
“Life happened Nick, we all must leave this world one day, it only hurts a little more when you die in the hands of those you loved and once cherished,” he said in a sad state.
“I'm so sorry for how I treated you and your mother. The truth is I was so scared of how powerful you were going to become. And as it is in human nature I forgot to think of you as a gift because I feared you would want to seize power from me as soon as you come of age. In my cowardliness, I abandoned my flesh and boasted with someone else's bastard. please find a place in your heart to forgive me,” he added in a regretful tone.
“I am so sorry father,” I said to him as I tried to control the wave of emotions going through me.
“I should have come earlier, I would have been able to save you,” I said as warm tears drew their line across my face.
“You have saved me in more ways than you can ever know, and now I do have a favor to ask of you,”
“What is it?” I asked blinking the tears away from my eyes as I waited for him to say his request. That moment I was ready to grant any wish if his.
“I want you to become the king and I know this is going to be difficult, but only you can redeem this pack and bring back peace to our people,” he said, looking at me for some sort of reassurance.
“What about Richard, you made him the heir,” I said to him.
“That was not my doing, in as much as I was scared of you, I would never have named Richard as my heir in my right senses because I knew he was weak and another fact is that Richard is not my son,”
“What? I mean how is that possible?”
“ you were never the bastard Nick, Richard is. He is not my son, I became sick as soon as I knew the truth and that was the reason your grandmother was killed also. I had to play along because I didn't want anything to happen to you. Be careful of your stepmother, she would stop at nothing to see that you never sit on the throne. I have to go now, my mission here is complete, but promise me that you will fight for your rightful place and become the Alpha King,” he said as I watch him start fading away.
“I promise father,” I said.
Just then I heard someone trying to open the door, and I quickly recited the invincibility spell. The door opens and simeon is pushed into the room.
His clothes were bloody and he looked completely different from the time that I once knew as my friend.
The door soon shut against him as he looked around the room in utter terror. He was looking so skinny and I kept that one might mistake him for a mad man.
I thought of undoing my spell so he could see me but I feared that would freak him out.
This is just the beginning Nick, be prepared for what is to come, he said as he floated away.
I cast a spell on Simeon and transforms him into a light stick and I quickly transformed him back into a raven and picked him up before flying out of the window.
We flew deep into the woods to where I was sure no one would find us and as soon as we landed, I quickly made a circle of protection around us.
I did the reverse spell on Simeon and he turned back to his human nature. As soon as he opened his eyes and set them on me, he looked terrified.
He must have heard that I was killed and thought that he was staring at a ghost.
Simeon, it's me, I said as I looked at him trying to fight back the tears clouding my visions.
He opened his mouth to say something but nothing was coming, his eyes were glittering in tears as he kept mumbling sounds with no words.
“What's wrong with you, say something, just anything, and that moment I felt kyle touch me on my shoulders.
“He can't say anything,” she said sadly as she moved closer to where simeon was.
“His tongue has been cut out” she added in a broken voice.
Such cruelty.
“Who did this?” I asked in rage, I was as furious as hell as anger and vengeance flowed through me like lava.
“Who else is capable of doing this Nick, the only one capable of bringing pain and sadness to everyone around her is my mother,” kyle said in tears.
Her tears broke my heart as I moved to comfort her, but she backed away from me in anger.
“I have to end this Nick, I will not be at peace with myself knowing that my mother is the reason for someone else's sleepless night. I have to end her reign of terror,” she said, and before I could have the opportunity to protest she had switched and flew off.
I turned to look around, trying to figure out what to do.
“Simeon can you hear me, please nod your head if you can,” I said quickly to simeon who nodded his head in response.
“Please stay within this circle, do not move outside of it, you are safe as long as you stay in,” I said to him as he nods his head in response, and with that, I was gone.
Kyle's POV
I flapped my wings rapidly as I tried to get to where Miranda is as fast as I could so I could get it over with. I was going to kill her and no one is ever going to stop me from doing so.
I got to her room just in time to see that she was all alone and seated across her mirror while applying makeup to her face.
Only if she could make up her evil heart.
I flew in from the window and transformed into my human form as I appeared from behind her. She looked startled as soon as she saw me.
“How did you get in here?” she asked in fright.
Looking at her now, she sure does look like me, the only difference was that she was older and had a different color of hair that I think she dyed.
“I heard you have been looking for me,” I said as I magically swung my right hand. which sent her flying across the room, her body came crashing hard against the wall.
She tries to get up, but I swung my hand again and she fell hard against the floor, which resulted in her having a bloody face.
People were hitting the door from the outside and wanting to come in but because I had locked it, they couldn't get in.
I moved my hands and she startled floating in the air and I cast a spell on her to strangle herself as she used both hands to hold tight on her neck.
She was gasping and holding on tight to her neck.
“Kyle!” I heard Nick roar from behind me.
“Let me finish this please,” I said as all the emotions I tried locking in started to unfold.
“I can't let you do this, she is still your mother, no matter what. If you kill her, you will become her. Please for my sake just let her go” I heard him say pleadingly.
“She has caused a lot of pain,” I cried as I undid my spell which made Miranda fall hard on the ground. She was wailing in pain as I watched her crawl to the four for help.
“Let's get out of here, ”my mate said and I couldn't agree more as we both switched into our bird form and flew out of the room.
We soon got back to where simeon was and quickly transformed into our human form.
You should have let me kill her and end this story I shouted at him
“I'm sorry, I can't let you do that, you don't stop evil by becoming one yourself,”
“You know she is not going to rest until she finds and kills me? I said in tears.
“But then, you won't be alone,” my mate said as I folds myself into his arms.
