I slowly opened my eyes as the crisp air slowly engulfed me. At first, I was hesitant to open them since it was bewitching that would desire your body to rest more.
Nonetheless, they eventually fully open when the second air struck my skin, leaving me with no choice. But opening my eyelids must have been a mistake since the playful ocean eyes and rose lips of a Goddess child revealed before my eyes and caused me to tumble to the bed.
A faint thump echoed in the quiet and large space of the room along with beetles playing outside the window. But the laughing voice was more dominant that made my ears twitch.
I hid and carefully put my head on the edge of the bed to peek and make sure it was truly the harsh and grumpy Jaxon I was hearing. And I nearly wanted to convince myself that I was just imagining because of the way the Moon's light glistened off his deep dimple.
I continued to be in bewilderment at what I was seeing as I regarded him for a while. I would have kept staring at him more if he just hadn't stopped to wipe the tears from the corner of his eye that caused by his laughter.
After that, he held a crimson nightgown that would be tight-fitting on my waist and spoke, "It's great that you're awake now. Put on these clothes to get dressed for the Moon Festival."
I questioned him in astonishment, "Moon Festival? Is that tonight?"
I mistook it for next month. I could feel my joints suffering so badly; if only I had known that that would be held tonight, I wouldn't have allowed something happen to us. I experienced the sensation of multiple beatings.
Jaxon got out of bed and approached me rather than responding to my query.
He draped a smooth quilt around me with only one quick motion of his hand, stopping the wind from caressing me.
If his laughing had previously left me speechless, what he did now made me more dumbfounded— much more when he extended his hand to help me stand up.
It took me a long time looking at his extended hand before refusing to take it because shock filled both my eyes and my emotions. This was the first time he performed this.
"My hand is extended, don't you intend to accept it?" He said in a tone that was considerably different from how he typically spoke to me.
"O-Oh!" I exclaimed in surprised as I accepted his hand. I was not sure if my hand was actually chilly or if his palm was just warm because any coldness I had experienced vanished after just one contact between our skins.
"We can finish more quickly and move to the corridor if you use this bathroom while I take a shower in the adjacent room," he said after I finally stood up.
"Okay..." That was the only word my tongue could muster while he nodded and walked away.
I stared at the place where he came out for a few minutes before it dawned on me that I had to act.
Even though I was exhausted, I managed to finish and put on the clothing he supplied me in thirty minutes, so it didn't take me long to get back.
I attentively examined my face while looking in the mirror. Unquestionably, my whole was elite— from my physical characteristics, skin tone, and hair shine. A blood type Alpha who had never suffered from heat exhaustion— at this point, I realized I was still privileged enough not to be thankful.
As I was drowned in my reverie, I was shocked by a gentle touch that slid down my waist, giving me a ticklish feeling. When I caught a glimpse of myself in the mirror, I saw Jaxon hugging me from behind as his chin now resting on my shoulder.
His blue eyes just stared at my reflection in the mirror while I did the same. We exchanged glances that penetrating our souls as if we need to know our secrets by just the gazes we could offer.
When I turned my head, he greeted me with a warm kiss.
The kiss lasted for two minutes, leaving me breathless as he never retracted his eyes. Every stares he gave me had driven me crazy. It was captivating and reinforced the idea that he had read my entire life's tale and all of my thoughts and I had no reason to lie.
"Nothing has changed; your lips are still delectably delicious; I would eat you every day if you were just dessert." When he remarked that, I also felt the dampness in the middle of my thigh that reason for my cheeks to flushed.
Gamma had warned me not to destroy the Moonlight Festival, so I swiftly pushed my body away from him out of concern that what we were doing would go in another direction and would block us to going at the annual meeting.
"We might be late for the gathering, we need to get ready."
"Si, mi amor. The car is ready. Morgan is in the other room sleeping with a servant. If you want to see him before we go, you can do it now."
I frowned at his Spanish response.
Mi amor means My love... 'How light are those words for him to use casually?'
"No me llames mi amor si amas a alguien más." I replied back to him as my teeth gritted with the meaning of, 'Don't call me my love if you love someone else.'
I didn't wait for him to respond because I walked right past him and out the door. But first, I walked to the other room, where Morgan was with other servants.
When I finished ordering the servants, I saw that Jaxon was already in the backseat and Uriel was waiting for me to enter because he was already holding the door where I would be next to the man who was now busy on his phone.
I couldn't stop wondering about Helene when I got in the car. I hadn't seen her shadow since Jaxon came back. I didn't want to ask the man sitting next to me because I didn't want him to object and claim that I was meddling in his affairs.
As I peek at him, he appeared to be speaking to someone on his phone the entire time we were traveling. They were able to communicate by mind-link; what was with the chat?
I rolled my eyes and grinned sarcastically as I considered that. I found it annoying that I was so influenced by this man's every move.
I just rested my head against the glass and thought back on what had transpired during the previous year that Jaxon had been gone since I didn't want to worry myself any further.
I tried to awaken my wolf during that year, but I was unsuccessful. At the end, I merely tried to prepare physically, so that in case something bad happened, I had a preparedness.
I was recalling all of that when unconsciously, my eyelids were again dropping.
"If you don't open your eyes, I will just fuck you here and go home—"
I jolted awake and instantly glanced around. I noticed Jaxon's aged and disgruntled face when I stared down him.
"You're awake," he softly whispered, opening his door, "let's leave, they've been waiting for a while, we're five minutes late."
I opened my door without having to wait for it to be opened, frantically straightening my garments because there was a small tangle. But as I was fixing it, a well-known voice had spoken to me.
"How are you, Veronica? It's been a while."
