Dark Matter (Unknown Origins Book One) Chapter 11

Finally, what seemed to be one of the best school days for May ended.

“Alright, I’ve called my driver, and our ride will be here soon,” Stacey said, packing the remaining books in her bag.

“Am sorry, ‘our ride’?” May asked.

“Yeah, aren’t you coming home with me?”

“I would love to, but I prefer trekking, perhaps, you could trek with me. It’s a lot healthier and we won’t even know when we’ve reached”

“Are you kidding? We’ll be in a limo and have cold tea…”

“But I love trekking, under the evening breeze, and the warm sun, it might even rain again.”

“Okay, I won’t force you,” Stacey replied. She escorted her through the hallway to the parked car outside”

Before entering the limo, Stacey said: “May, I just want to say that in really impressed”

“How do you mean?”

“Well, you’re treating me like an equal, and not considering me to be like a rich pal you could benefit from. I really love that. Most of my friends are just friends so they could get something from me…”

“And I’m definitely among those friends,” Mia said out of the blue.” Could you be a sweetheart and take me home? My bloody driver’s not coming and definitely taking public transport is not my cuppa tea,” Mia continued, making Stacey laugh.

“Of course Mia, you could join me”

“And also to the mall. This wash won’t spend themselves,” she said, entering the Limo.

“Sure thing ma’am” Stacey answered jokingly

“You coming sweetie?” she then asked May,

“Uh… no! I haven’t had enough savings yet”

“Savings!” Mia exclaimed and burst into laughter. “who does savings?”

“Hey don’t you dare laugh at my friend,” Stacey said “bye May! You sure you don’t wanna come?” She asked, holding the door handle.

“Yeah, I’m fine, thank you, bye-bye!” she said. The car zoomed past and they have at her from the back seat.

May jogged out of the school that was emptying the streets with many types of cars coming in and out. Some even had private helicopters and only a few students trekked or used public transportation.

Suddenly, a familiar black Mercedes parked in front of her. Slowly, the windshield came down and revealed Mike in sunglasses.

She then felt as if her heart jumped to her throat.

“Hi May,” he greeted, flashing a smile. Hot sweat trickled down her face as she remembered. The fleet of cars and escorts that followed his father that morning, and Stacey mentioning that he was among the richest in the entire class, more importantly, she remembered how she rejected his offer.

“H_hi!” she replied, smiling

He then came out of the car and leaned on it. “Hey, I really wanna apologise for stalking you and asking you to be my girlfriend so early,” he said, looking very apologetic, which shocked May greatly.

“No, it’s okay, really”

“I just wanted to offer you gifts from my home to show how really sorry I am”

“You want to take me to your home?” She asked, even more shocked **why is he doing this?**

“Yeah, that is, if you wanna!”

“Uh sure” she replied hastily, she just wanted to get it over with, so he would stop bothering her.

She entered the car with him, and Mike ordered the driver to drive them home.

Twirling her hands, she felt very uneasy.

“Care for some wine?” he asked, handing her a half-filled glass cup of wine.

“Sure,” she answered, forcing a smile and collecting the cup. He seemed to be nice to her.

Taking gradual sips, she wondered why she had earlier rejected his offer. Perhaps he wasn’t so bad after all. Soon she emptied the glass and handed it over to Mike. Looking ahead of her, there seemed to be something wrong with the road. It looks like it was bubbling up and down, and sideways. Or was there something wrong with her? The world seemed blurred, and the car felt like it was going to fall over. Unable to control herself, she fell on Mike's lap. Looking upwards in confusion, there was an awkward smile on his blurry face before she finally blacked out.

After what seemed like an eternity later, her head throbbed back to reality. Forcing her eyes open, she could barely see through her blurry vision that she was in the boot of a car. She tried to move her legs, but there was a striking pain in her waist and hips. It felt as if her hip bones were dislocated. Moving her right hand underneath her thighs, she felt a liquid more viscous than water. She then brought it to her eyes and saw in utter shock that it was blood, her blood. She was lying in her pool of blood. Then she heard the boot open and muttering voices she couldn’t recognise before blacking out again.

Waking up once more, she could hear bipping sounds, her vision was still blurry she could see a drip stand. her head still pounded violently but the pain In her hips had subsided. She turned her face and saw through the window a wailing woman and a girl about her age standing outside the room she was in. The nurse with her injected something into her bloodstream which made her headache calm as she fell asleep.

“Ma…!”

“May!”

“May!” She heard Stacey call her. Gradually opening her eyes, her vision was clearer than before, she was leaning on Stacey's laps in a police vehicle in the night.

“How are you feeling?” She asked feeling her head. Stacey was wearing a pink gown, and she was still dressed in her clean uniform

Finding the energy to move her mouth she said: “I don’t understand… what happened?”

Tears streamed down Stacey's eyes, “I’ll tell you when you get better,” she said wiping her face.

The police vehicle stopped in front of May's house. Her mother immediately rushed out and hugged her. Still confused May looked at her mother, and it was obvious that she had cried her eyes out. The police officer mentioned that he would come the next day for questioning since May was just recently discharged.

When they were inside she was spotted on the couch and Stacey handed her a glass cup of water to drink, which sparked her memory of a similar glass cup. Holding it her hand shivered frantically and she dropped the cup which shattered on the floor. Her mother couldn’t hold back her tears any longer and quickly ran out of there to cry.

The door swung open and Mia and Jess came into the house. Jess was questioning Stacey and Mia ran towards her and knelt before her.

“Hey, you alright sweetie!?” She asked touching May's forehead,

“I_i don’t know” May answered with a confused look still on her face, everything was going too fast and she couldn’t understand a thing.

Looking at her sadly “who did this to you?” Mia asked

“Did what?… I can’t remember… argh!” Her head ached. Jess sat by her side and leaned her on her blossom

“You will be just fine May, just don’t you worry” she comforted.

“Whoever that did this, we will find him and I promise you from the depths of my heart that he will rot the rest of his bloody life in jail” Mia swore, tears rolled down her eyes and she was filled with emotion.

“Argh!” Her head throbbed again and her vision got blurry

“May!”

“May!”

“Someone should call the bloody doctor”

“I’m calling my driver”

“MAY!!!”

“Don’t worry the ambulance will be here soon,”

“Oh my gosh!! What’s happening to her” all the sounds came crashing into her ear, the final one being her mom's. Finally, she fainted again into the arms of Jass who was shaking her desperately.
