As Andrianne walked towards the kitchen to make herself a cup of coffee, she was startled when she heard the door open. She turned around to see Steve, her ex-college boyfriend and current bodyguard, walk in. His face was twisted in anger, and Andrianne could feel her heart rate quicken in response.
"What are you doing here, Steve?" she asked, trying to keep her voice steady.
"I came to get you back," he said, his voice laced with bitterness. "I saw you last night with that guy, Lucas. You're supposed to be with me, Andrianne."
Andrianne felt her blood boil at his words. "Lucas is my husband, Steve," she said firmly. "Even if it is a contracted marriage, we have an agreement. And you have no right to come here and demand anything from me."
Steve's expression darkened even further. "I have every right," he said, taking a step closer to her. "I love you, Andrianne. I've loved you since college. Don't you remember?"
Andrianne shook her head, trying to push the memories of their relationship out of her mind. "That's in the past, Steve," she said. "And I'm not interested in going back there. I have a life now, and I'm not going to throw it away for someone who can't respect my choices."
Steve's eyes narrowed. "You're making a mistake, Andrianne," he said, before turning and storming out of the house.
Andrianne let out a sigh of relief as she watched him go. She couldn't believe he had the audacity to come here and demand that she leave her husband for him. She had no interest in him anymore, and she was determined to make that clear.
She went upstairs to her room, still feeling shaken from the encounter. She knew she needed to talk to Lucas about what had happened, but she wasn't sure how to bring it up. She paced back and forth, trying to come up with a plan, when her phone buzzed in her pocket.
Andrianne's phone rang, interrupting her pacing. She grabbed it eagerly, hoping it was someone who could help her deal with the Steve situation. "Hello?" she answered, her voice shaking slightly.
"Andrianne! Thank God you answered," came Jackie's voice from the other end. "I've been trying to reach you all morning. Are you okay?"
Andrianne let out a sigh of relief. Jackie was one of her oldest and closest friends. They had met in college and had been inseparable ever since. "No, I'm not okay," she admitted. "Steve showed up at my house this morning."
"What? Steve? The bodyguard?" Jackie asked incredulously. "What happened? Are you okay?"
Andrianne took a deep breath and tried to calm herself down. She explained to Jackie what had happened, how Steve had come to her house and demanded that she leave Lucas and come back to him.
Jackie was shocked. "I can't believe he would do something like that," she said. "You should call the police, Andrianne. That's harassment."
Andrianne shook her head. "No, I don't want to involve the police. I just want to get away from him."
Jackie thought for a moment. "Okay, how about we meet up and talk about it? There's a great high-class restaurant downtown called La Belle Epoque. We can have lunch there and figure out what to do next."
Andrianne was hesitant. She didn't want to leave the safety of her house, but she also knew she couldn't stay cooped up in there forever. "Okay," she said finally. "I'll meet you there in an hour."
After hanging up with Jackie, Andrianne went to her closet to pick out an outfit. She wanted to look her best and put on a brave face, even though she was scared and vulnerable inside.
She settled on a navy blue dress with a simple design that hugged her curves in all the right places. She paired it with a pair of black pumps and minimal jewelry. She applied some light makeup and let her hair down in loose waves.
As she got into her car and started driving, her mind was racing. What would she say to Jackie? How would she explain everything that had happened? And most importantly, what was she going to do about Steve? She knew she couldn't go back to him, but she also didn't know how to get rid of him.
When she arrived at La Belle Epoque, she saw Jackie waiting for her outside. They hugged each other tightly, and Andrianne was grateful for the familiar embrace.
"Girl, it's been too long," Jackie said, smiling brightly.
"I know, right? How have you been?" Andrianne replied, returning the smile.
"I've been good, thanks for asking. So, what's been happening with you? You sounded a bit off on the phone," Jackie said, looking at Andrianne with concern.
As they walked through the restaurant, Andrianne couldn't help but feel out of place. The restaurant was one of the fanciest in the city, and the clientele was made up of rich businessmen and celebrities. She had never been to a place like this before, and she felt self-conscious.
But as they sat down in the private dining room, with a beautiful view of the city skyline, Andrianne started to relax. The room was elegant and intimate, with soft lighting and a warm atmosphere. She felt safe here, with her friend by her side.
Jackie ordered a bottle of wine and they perused the menu. Andrianne couldn't focus on the food, though. She was too preoccupied with her problems. She knew she needed to talk to Jackie about Steve, but she didn't know where to start.
As they waited for their food, Andrianne recounted the events of the morning to her friend. She told Jackie about Steve's unexpected visit and his declaration of love for her.
Jackie listened attentively, nodding and offering words of comfort when needed. "I'm so sorry, Andrianne. That sounds like a really difficult situation to be in."
Andrianne nodded, feeling a weight lifted off her shoulders. "It is. I don't know what to do. I don't want to hurt him, but I can't just forget about my marriage to Lucas."
Jackie nodded, understanding the complexity of the situation. "Have you talked to Lucas about it?"
Andrianne shook her head. "No, I haven't. I don't even know how to bring it up."
"Well, maybe it's time to have that conversation," Jackie said gently. "You owe it to yourself and to Lucas to be honest about your feelings."
Andrianne thought for a moment before nodding. "You're right. I need to talk to him. But how do I even begin?"
Jackie smiled. "Just be honest, Andrianne. That's all you can do."
As they finished their meal and prepared to leave, Andrianne felt a sense of clarity. She knew what she needed to do, and she felt more confident about facing whatever lay ahead.
