My body tensed up the moment I heard the message Ella passed to me from Victoria. My steps falter but I manage to maintain my composure
"Danger? I don't understand, how come he's in danger? Weren't they working together at the gate? How the hell did it happen?" I rapidly fired questions at Ella as if she could give me more information than what Victoria told her.
"According to what Victoria told me, they turned on the alarm and also called immediately after they saw what was happening from inside the gate's watch room. She said he was surrounded by rogues
"They saw he was surrounded? How come he was surrounded? Why the hell was he outside the gate all by himself in the first place!? How could they allow him to go by himself? Rogues move around in packs and I know he wouldn't be foolish enough to challenge them all by himself!..." I continually talk as I drive like a bat out of hell.
Ella doesn't answer any of my questions. I look towards her and see the look on her face. I understand the look she's giving me and I know it's because some of my questions are insensitive considering the fact that the person we are discussing is not a child but an adult. I don't care though. I will surely hold all of the Gammas working with him responsible if anything happens to him.
I turn back to the road and concentrate on driving. I turn back to her once again when I feel her hand pat mine where it's resting on the gear...
"I'm sure he's going to be fine, Alpha. It's Eric we're talking about, remember? We all know he's tough and capable. He can handle himself in any situation. And even though I don't trust these people around us yet, I don't think they would dare abandon him to fight the rogues by himself. He's going to be fine."
"Yeah..." I reply while nodding profusely. I know Ella was right, Eric is one tough and capable motherfucker and I wouldn't have entrusted him with so much if I suspected he isn't capable. Even when I know how capable he is, I'm still scared shitless. Rogues are ruthless and are no respecters of women and kids talk more a full-grown man.
'What if they overpower him? What if he dies? What am I going to do without him?'
My phone starts to ring then. Ella is about to answer it when her own phone also begins to ring.
"It's Henrik..." She says before answering the call on my phone, putting it on hands-free mode.
"General?" Henrik's voice booms out questioningly from the phone. He's not a man of many words and I don't need to ask what he wants before I know it will be because of the alarm. He probably wants to know what I want them to do under the circumstances.
"The first gate is under attack by the rogues and according to the last report we received from Victoria, Eric was surrounded by these animals. Tell your Gammas to guide their station with all they've got, who knows, attacking the first gate might just be a ploy to divert us from their real plan. And get in touch with the rest of the team members. I want every one of you to meet us at the first gate ASAP.
"Yes, General..." He replies and ends the call.
Ella's phone stops ringing and starts all over again.
"I'm sorry, General, it's Ivar." She says and I nod for her to answer it.
"Ivar..." She says and goes ahead to tell him everything I just told Henrik before ending the call.
Apart from the alarm that might have driven some people into their homes, the time was past midnight which further explains why the streets are deserted. And from the noise of different sirens blaring in the air, I know my team and I are not the only ones on our way to the first gate.
When we almost arrive at the gate and I see the red and blue lights flashing from the council police vehicles and ambulances, I turn to Ella,
"Call Anders. Tell him the situation with Eric and tell him to expect us back at the mansion."
"Okay," she replies, already opening her phone.
There's no way to drive closely to the gate because of the ambulances and law enforcement vehicles that have already arrived at the scene before us, so I park the car by the side of the road and run toward the now opened gate
My heart sinks to the bottom of my stomach with fear when I see Eric being loaded into one of the ambulances with an oxygen mask on his face. As I run towards him, my eyes quickly take in the scene. There is blood on the ground and all over Eric but nothing else. No one else was injured except him. If it wasn't for the blood on the ground, I wouldn't have been able to tell there was a rogue attack.
"Anders is expecting us..." Ella says beside me as we arrive at the ambulance together
"What's the situation with him?" I ask one of the EMTs who looks up from what she's doing to gawk at me instead of answering my question.
"Oh, my– Alpha... I– we..." I watch with irritation as she stammers, looking for the proper words to use. Her male partner quickly steps in and answers the question I asked...
"He was having difficulty breathing when we arrived. I don't know but it seems he had been bitten on both sides of the neck by a vampire. I wonder how that is since it was a rogue attack and we have no vampires around here..." The frown on his face deepens as he explains. He gently turns Eric's head to one side to reveal the bite marks there.
"I'm sorry Alpha. I wish I could answer all your questions sir, but we really need to get him to the hospital right now. If you have more questions, his doctor will be in the best position to tell you all you need to know."
"Yes, yes, you're right. We need to get him to the mansion— Ella..." I signal to Ella to take over the driving.
"But sir..." The EMT protested. "He urgently needs a real doctor..." He says as I enter the ambulance with Eric. I don't have the time to start explaining to him the reasons why I can't allow him to be admitted into any of the hospitals inside the pack.
