Fated Tó The Evil Viking Chapter 28

Ash's POV

As soon as the driver that brought us left, Martha immediately started to dish out instructions. When she's done telling me what to do, she goes to the kitchen area to start the cooking while I find my way to the hall closet to get some bedding before taking them upstairs.

I'm still cleaning the first room when I hear her shout out my name. My heart sinks out of fear since I thought maybe she fell or something. So I rushed out of the room preparing for the worst. I breathe a sigh of relief when I find her standing at the foot of the stairs looking well but madder than a wet hen with her coat back on and her walking stick in hand.

"Where are you going?" I ask as I walk down the stairs to meet her

"This is the twenty-first century, Ash! You really need a phone! We need to get you one as soon as possible! You made me scream like a banshee when I could have just called your phone!" She says in her sharp southern twang all the while tapping her walking stick on the floor

"Yes, you're right. I really should get a phone ASAP..." I reply, trying so hard not to laugh since I know letting my laughter lose at the time she's angry would be a very bad idea.

Whenever Martha is excited or angry about something, her Southern accent will become more pronounced. And I always find it funny whenever that happens. Since I know it's usually not because of something I did. I wondered who was the someone or something that tickled her the wrong way this time.

"Ah hafta leave so you're on your own now. The Alpha sent for me again! According to him, for something more important than what we're doing here! One thing is always more important than the previous to that man!"

"You're leaving!" I ask. Forgetting for the moment to listen to her accent. "Where are you going?"

"Well, I don't know! The driver is back to pick me up so you're on your own for the moment and don't worry, he's gon pay us for this extra time!"

"No, wait!" I say, coming down the last step to stand in front of her. I don't care about the extra pay, I'm only concerned about my safety

"This place is secluded and you want me to stay here all by myself!?" I ask her incredulously"

"No, of course not. I ain't stupid, you know!?" She replies and glowers at me. "Someone's outside watching the house, so don't worry about your safety." She replies as she walks toward the kitchen area.

"So for their dinner, I thought rice, chicken, and salad would be a great combination. Something like chicken salad summer rolls would be nice, right? Do you still remember how I taught you? It shouldn't take you more than twenty-minute, since all the ingredients are already laid out. Just git on with the cooking, alright?"

"Got it!"

"After the cooking, you can then go back to laying the beds. If I'm not back by the time you're done, the guard outside will take you to the pack house and I'll meet you there, alright?"

"Yeah..."

"So, I hafta to go now! You don't hafta worry about your safety. You're safe I promise you okay?" She said, looking like a mother who is going on a long journey without her only child.

I smile to assure her that I understand

"Okay, get going so I can start already," I say and kiss her on the cheek before leading her toward the door. Indeed two cars were waiting outside the house. She got into the one at the front and left.

The person sitting behind the wheel of the second car waves at me and I hesitantly wave back in return. I don't think he knew I was the Omega freak, otherwise, I know he wouldn't have bothered about me

Thor's POV

Few Shifters can survive a wolfsbane attack. Just as the doctor had said, the deadly poison, if ingested, quickly lowers the heart rate, which could be fatal if not flushed out of the system before it becomes too late. Direct skin contact with the poison is also as dangerous since it can cause the skin to be burned severely.

Myself and my men are trained to withstand and survive deadlier poisons and venoms than wolfsbane and vampire venoms since these two are mostly used as a form of torture by the rouges, so I'm curious as to how my dad managed to survive the combination of the two lethal poison in his system.

Before the doctor left, he told us that even though my dad is recovering, they'll still need to monitor him for a few days to make sure no unforeseen emergency will develop when we take him home. I was told he will be moved out of the emergency room into another room and that I can see him before he was moved.

When I enter the emergency room, the rest of the medical team that is still hanging around leave the room so we can talk in private. Even though my dad still has tubes passing some kind of liquid into his veins and a heart rate monitor machine still attached to his body, I am surprised to see him sitting up in bed.

"You scared me shitless Zeus, you know that right?" I say not realizing I just called him another nickname until he calls my attention to it

"And I thought you only have the guts to call me whatever nickname that pleases you behind my back. Turns out you actually don't give a rat's ass about what I think" He replies weakly. Even though his tone of voice makes it seem as if he's angry, his thin lips curl up into a half-smile.

"What? Zeus is a cool nickname, don't you like it?"

"Well, I guess it's better than Vlad the Impaler!"

"Yeah, it's much better I assure you" I reply "So how are you feeling?"

"Like death warmed over..." he says and I hear his breath catch like he's struggling for normal breathing after strenuous activity.

"Yeah, you certainly look and sound like death warmed over. That's why you should lie down and rest properly."

"Yeah, I probably should," He agrees and I move forward to help him arrange the pillows properly so he'll be comfortable

"Your Beta was not in the car with you when we found you. Do you know what happened to him?" I ask after some minutes of silence had gone by between us

He chuckles but there is no trace of amusement on his tired face

"Who do you think did this to me?..." He furiously asks, gasping and breathing heavily as if talking is becoming a task.

"Should I call the doctor?" I ask worriedly but he brushes me off and continues talking. I wanted to stop him from talking when I see he was picking his words with labored breath but he hold my hand and squeeze it tightly

"I'm - fine!" He managed to say and take a deep breath before he starts to talk again

"The - bullets - that - came - in - through - the - window - just - made -it seems - like - it - was - an - attack..."

"Okay, stop talking! That's enough!" I finally insist when I see how badly he's wheezing.

As if in agreement with me, the heart monitor attached to his body began to beep furiously.

Before I can move to call for the doctors, the door opens and the doctor that I spoke with earlier enters, closely followed by two nurses. One of the nurses push me out and the door shut in my face.

'He was fine before I went inside to see him! I shouldn't have asked him so many questions! I should have allowed him to rest. Goddess, please let him be okay!'

I keep thinking and praying to myself while my men silently stand behind me. After what seems to be the longest time of my life, the door finally opens and the doctor slowly walks out.

I know even before he opens his mouth that I've finally killed my dad.

"I'm so sorry…" He says tiredly "We lost him!
