Thor's POV
"Even if we're expecting trouble, I don't think we should go home and just wait for it to come to us. I think we should do something about it. Deal with it, you know." Bear speaks for the first time since we arrived at the border and we all turn to look at him as he continues talking.
"Like this fence. I think we should first do something about it. I mean what if those mean motherfucking rouges are the ones responsible for damaging it? If this is truly them, then do you guys think their target would just be Alpha's mansion?... Cos I don't think so. I think they would target the whole pack.
All five of us can defend ourselves because we're trained fighters. We're warriors but what about the pack members? Not all pack members can defend themselves. The pups for example can't. Some she-wolves can't either. Not all she-wolves can fight like Ella you know– and what about the old and feeble?..." He finished saying with his eyes level with mine and I nodded in agreement.
Bear just made a valid point but there's one thing though...
"Electric fences are usually built to keep things outside from coming inside or things inside from going outside. Which means this damage couldn't have been done by rouges from outside the fence, I'm sure of that. They would die as many as they that tries to..." I say still looking at Bear
"Look at this place guys" I continue, spreading my arms wide. "It's obvious the old Alpha put so much effort into making sure the pack is protected from rogues or whatever it is that couldn't use any of the entrances into the pack. The fence is well maintained and the area around the fence is kept clean of weeds. Weeds weaken electric fences for your information.
If my dad could put in so much effort to maintain security, I'm sure he would have made sure that apart from the fence, the border is also patrolled.
As Henrik said earlier, I'm very sure that someone from this pack deliberately wants to frustrate my dad's efforts. They damaged this fence to give access to some persons or rogues who couldn't freely enter the pack through the main entrances because of the Gammas guiding them...
"Someone from the pack? How did they do it then? I'm sure this must be done by someone who knows a lot about electricity right?" Bear ask
"Not necessarily someone who knows about electricity. It could just be anyone who knew what they were doing. Like someone who knew where to go to turn off the power supply to the fence. Where is this fence getting its power from? Solar? I don't see a solar panel anywhere" Ivar said, shielding his eyes to be able to see farther than they could.
"Nah, I don't think it's solar." I replied to him "For a fence this long to have a consistent amount of power then it must be an AC fence energizer which could connect directly to the pack's electricity grid."
"Yeah, that would be exactly where the power was turned off from. AC is not weatherproof. It needs to be protected from being damaged by nature. If we find the shelter then we find the place the power was turned off from." Eric says
"Yeah, like an outbuilding… does anyone notice a shed, barn, or any small building standing alone?..." I ask since I didn't see any while we were running.
By the way, they all look at me, they don't have to say what is on their minds. I can read, 'You must have been blind not to see any' on their faces.
"If your mind wasn't so preoccupied..." Eric says and exhales.
"Yeah, if..." I reply, walking away toward where we came from. They also follow, walking beside me.
"The damages on the steel fence are extensive. Even though we still have some hours left until sundown we can't fix them all right now. We'll still need to get the materials then a professional welder that will do the job... It's a long process.
The only solution left to us right now is to find that fence energizer. That will be easy to repair so we can quickly get the power back up. And patrol... The border urgently needs to be patrolled...
Ivar, communicate with Ella, tell her to bring a car and meet us. I'm no longer in the mood to run and it's quite a distance back to Alpha's mansion. We can't walk all the way back."
"Yes, General," Ivar replies, and his eyes immediately become glazed
"Eric, as soon as we get back to the mansion, I want you to arrange a meeting with all the pack's executives. Let them know no excuse will be tolerated. They must convene at Alpha's mansion in two hours. Anyone that refuses to show up should kiss their jobs goodbye."
"Yes, General." He also replies.
He hardly ever addressed me as General or Alpha like the rest of the men except whenever we were outside in the midst of others. I look toward him and I see he looks serious. Too serious for my liking as a matter of fact. I wonder what's biting him? He's my best friend, my brother. I don't want him looking like that with me.
I look at Ivar and see his eyes are still glazed. Mind linking among pack members is faster than making phone calls if the person hasn't shut you out of their mind of course. It's even faster and can work long distances if the shifters communicating with each other are mated to each other, otherwise, Ivar would be the last person I would consider sending to Ella.
"For fuck's sake, Ivar, wake up, will you! How long will it take to ask someone to bring along a car, even if the person is not your mate!?" I ask and they all laugh, including Ivar himself whose eyes immediately return to normal after what I said.
I always avoid peering them together in a duel during training or even official assignments unless it's absolutely necessary since we literally have to pry them apart from each other every time. There was one time I asked them to duel during team training and they somehow ended up kissing in the presence of everyone after a few minutes of fighting. Ella works better with Eric anyway since he's the only one apart from me she would submit to in the team.
Thinking about Ivar and Ella and how beautifully they relate with each other makes me wonder about my mate. I think about how she couldn't get away from me fast enough after seeing my feral eyes and can't help but wonder if the seer was wrong about her character.
She was supposed to be the one to ease my worries and help me heal from this condition. Sleeping in her arms would have done me a world of good. But the fear in her eyes makes me wonder about everything the seer told me about her...
"A penny for your thoughts." Eric's voice interrupts my thoughts and I look at him
"Don't even ask. You won't be pleased if I told you."
