Jasyn stared at the scene before him, having multiple thoughts on what to do and how to react. Here he was, thinking of ways to impress the woman not knowing that the governor was actually with her, just like Yolanda had said.
"Yolanda was right?" He whispered under his breath.
"Don't be stupid, Jasyn." Diana scolded. "Eugene is just surprised and a little morbid that someone as insignificant as I am dared to challenge him. He is trying to intimidate me with his size but apparently, I can't be intimidated."
Jasyn began to calm down. His wolf was almost coming out, he didn't know why he was already feeling possessive over Diana. She had zero interest in him.
"Your face." He said. Diana touched it, feeling that the wound had been covered. She couldn't scratch herself before the men.
"Hm, I guess the last one I applied still works." She said, "That being said, Eugene, thank you for the enlightenment. It was so good having this discussion with you."
Eugene nodded. "Thank you, Diana." He replied. Jasyn held the door open for Diana to walk out. As soon as she walked past him, he turned to glare at Eugene. Eugene was mad. As much as he couldn't go against Jasyn since he was a very powerful wolf, he had tried to keep the man under him at all costs. If Jasyn felt attracted to Diana then he had to do everything in his power to make sure Diana remained happy with him.
Jasyn glared at him for a long time before finally leaving to catch up with Diana.
"Diana, wait!" Jasyn said as he walked faster. Diana paused and turned to find the man walking very fast. She scowled slightly.
"What's the matter, Jasyn?"
"I want you in all honesty to tell me the truth." He said.
"Okay..?"
"What's going on between you and Eugene?"
Diana shifted between her feet. She hated being confronted openly about a matter she was trying to conceal, especially when the person confronting her was completely mistaken, and correcting him would mean revealing the secret.
"There's nothing," Diana said. "I just wanted to know if there was a particular reason he wanted me to be in the army."
Jasyn scowled. "I thought you wanted to be in the army."
"Well, now I do," Diana said. "For the likes of Yolanda."
Jasyn sighed. "Ignore her. If she tries to disturb you too much, I will deal with her."
Diana nodded. "Thanks, Jasyn."
Jasyn nodded as well. He placed his hand on her lower back and led her to the car. He opened the passenger door for her to get in and closed it softly after she had sat comfortably. Petyr smirked a little at the scene unfolding before him and Yolanda. He knew that it would get her very pissed.
"Alright, let's head back. Theodore has just sent me a message. The soldiers are lazying."
"Theodore?" Diana asked. The name sounded familiar to her. "Is he in the army?"
"Yes," Jasyn answered, not liking the fact that Diana seemed interested in another man.
"Hm." She hummed and turned to face her window again.
Yolanda was quiet the entire time and she seethed in anger. She was also hurt that Jasyn had embarrassed her before Diana.
"Yolanda, I'm sorry for annoying you earlier." Diana suddenly said. Yolanda got even pissed. What was Diana trying to achieve by apologizing to her?
"Perhaps if I hadn't said that to you, you wouldn't have gotten mad to hit me." Diana continued. "I'm sorry about that."
Yolanda ignored her. If Diana wanted her to accept her apology, she had to say the complete truth. Half truth was still a lie. Yes, she had angered her, but she didn't scratch her face or anything of the sort.
She crossed her arms across her chest and faced her window, ignoring both Jasyn and Diana.
"Yolanda?" Diana called, turning to stare at her. "I'm sorry."
Yolanda didn't even spare her a glance.
Jasyn tapped her. "Didn't you hear her? You injured her and she even apologized to you, are you that proud?"
Yolanda turned to stare at Jasyn, wondering if he was charmed or something.
"Thank you, Diana. I forgive you." Yolanda said.
"Shall you not also apologize for drawing blood?"
Yolanda gasped. "Jasyn!"
"Commander Jasyn." Jasyn corrected.
"Do you trust a stranger over me?" Yolanda demanded. "I have been your assistant for years and she comes by and you're already tossing me aside."
Jasyn sighed. "You are the one who sees it that way, Yolanda. I expected you to welcome her well. But the first thing you did was accuse her of being the governor's slut. Then you insult her and injure her."
Yolanda was angered even more. "I did not wound her!" She yelled. "Diana, be noble and tell the truth."
Diana shuddered. She could feel Yolanda's anger from her seat. Luckily, the car was just entering the base so she waited until they were parked. Jasyn was waiting for her response to Yolanda's outburst.
"She's right," Diana said. "I remember clearly, it was my nails that tore my skin. But then her hand was on mine."
Yolanda's mouth fell open. Jasyn stared at Diana's retreating figure and then turned to Yolanda who was too shocked to say anything.
He shook his head and alighted the car as well. He instructed Petyr what to do and followed Diana.
"Diana, let's head to the training ground. Let me introduce you to everyone." Jasyn said. Diana nodded and followed him.
Jasyn led her to the training ground and everyone stood at attention the moment they sighted the coming.
"Salute!" Theodore shouted. The soldiers saluted and bowed. Jasyn saluted back at them.
"Soldiers, we have a recruit," Jasyn announced. "Her name is Diana. She will be joining us in the training, everyone prepares to tire her out and make her sweat."
"No blood!" He announced. "If anyone draws blood from her body, whatever she chooses to do is your business."
Some chuckled. Diana didn't look anything fierce or fit like Yolanda and the rest of the females. They assumed she might just know a few tricks and wouldn't be able to fight or persevere.
"Go hard," Jasyn yelled, clapping twice. "You, take her to the changing room and give her some training combat pants and top."
Julitta ran forward and led Diana to the changing room by the side.
"Diana, what are you doing here?" Julitta whispered. "How can you join the army?"
"Didn't you want me to join earlier?" Diana returned. She took off her clothes and wore the pants and singlet.
"Yes, but not now. We have a war at hand and it's not going to be easy, especially since you have a child to care for." Julitta said hurriedly. "You have to return."
"Never," Diana said. "I did not come here for naught."
Julitta sighed. "You've always been so stubborn, Diana. I'll go easy on you."
"Don't," Diana said. "Cause I won't."
Julitta stared at her with an open mouth. Was she that powerful?
She followed her back out. Jasyn saw Diana walk out clad in their combat pants and singlet and she never looked any more beautiful than she did right then. He was so entranced, he didn't know when Yolanda came up to his side.
"In groups of five," Jasyn yelled. "Let's see which groups take her down."
Everyone was surprised. Usually, they start by taking the test and then the person would just undergo hard training. If they passed, they would then fight amongst each other, then amongst the pre+existing soldiers. That was the final test. How come she was skipping all of that?
The first group came to attack her and in less than a minute, she tackled them to the ground. Yolanda was shocked, her mouth hung open. How did that happen? If Diana was that strong, why then did she allow her to say all those nasty things to her?
The second group came and met the same fate, and so did the third and fourth and every one of them was having difficulty beating her.
Jasyn had to stop them. There was something off about the way she tackled them to the ground, it was too easy. Even he as a werewolf would not do it that fast.
"Stop!" He yelled and everyone backed off. Diana stood as if she hadn't moved a muscle. In truth, she didn't. She only tackled them. She didn't punch or kick, it was all strategies.
"Julitta, you're one of the strongest female soldiers we have." Jasyn began. "You will do hand combat with her."
Diana chuckled. Julitta walked slowly to meet her. Staring into Diana's eyes, she knew she was in for a beating. But for the sake of her reputation and mostly her life, she knew she had to fight back.
Diana stared hard at her, she cracked her wrists in preparation for the fight.
Calhoun was faced off with the entire Wisteria. Why were they rioting now? He stared with boredom written all over his face.
George came over to him and bowed. He nodded for him to continue.
"My king, the people say they must hear from you that things are under control. Four men have been killed by the blood pack."
"Men or wolves?"
"Men, my king," George answered.
Calhoun hummed. "Yara is such a coward, he cannot face off against my wolves, he decided to attack the humans."
"My king, they need assurance." George reminded.
Calhoun nodded. "Tell Felix to see me."
George bowed and left. Within a few minutes, Felix came to his side.
"My king." Felix greeted. "What shall we do to the people?"
"What do you propose?"
"I propose you give it to them. Bring them into the castle grounds and speak with them, assure them." Felix answered. "Yara is only doing this because he wants their hearts to be divided against us. That way, he will have more supporters, more spies, more-"
"Bring the people in, Felix. Don't begin to talk too much like George." Calhoun said. "Long talks bore me."
Felix nodded and left to inform the guards to let the people into the castle. The people were grateful that Calhoun didn't just see them outside but invited them into his castle.
"People of Wisteria, your king shall be with you shortly," Felix announced. The people made some noise which was partially cheering for Calhoun and partially complaining against him.
Despite their mixed emotions, the moment Calhoun appeared before them, there was a silence that matched the one at the graveyard.
"What's the matter?" Calhoun asked. The people bowed in unison, greeting their king respectfully. Calhoun smiled. He loved the effect he had on his people. They were always so respectful and he loved it.
"What has caused such an uproar among you all?" He asked again.
"My king..." They all began to speak at the same time.
"Shut up!" Calhoun yelled. Everyone kept quiet again. "You're filling my ears with balderdash."
"When I ask a question, I expect one person to speak, not all of you."
"Now, what's the matter?"
One man stepped forward and the rest kept mute. "My lord, the wolves from the other packs have been attacking us. They have killed four of our men, and they say it's a blood debt you owe them which they must collect."
"Yes, my Lord!" Another man yelled. "I asked one of them why they didn't go after the wolves and they said you made a bet with us humans!"
Calhoun's expression turned to a scowling one. He didn't mind the killing since it was a blood debt, but the planting of evil thoughts in the heart of his subordinates and manipulating them was something he would not tolerate.
"Don't mind them." He said. "Ignore whoever says anything to you. I would never make a blood bet over you humans. I could do so with my wolves but not you."
"You are too small for me to bet with. Your king is not a weakling. Your king is powerful and can save you from whatever danger. Beware that you are not misled or you do not forget that."
"Is that so?" A menacing voice came from the crowd. Gradually, the people began to morph into something Calhoun would have never expected. Calhoun stared expressionlessly. Had he been tricked to invite the blood pack wolves into his castle even after guarding it carefully?
What a nice way to play.
