Heart of Ice Chapter 36

João Felipe

I was always jealous of João Pedro with Vivi, but it was more of the coexistence that they had with each other and in which my mother did not get involved. Unlike me, who couldn't even get close to Viviane my mother was already in my ears, with her sermons on how I should keep my distance from people who weren't in the same social circle as mine. Something she didn't do when it came to JP since he never listened to her.

"I can't understand what has changed in these last few weeks that led you to make that decision. You and Viviane have always been like brothers. Can only I see that there is something wrong with this equation? "

"There's nothing wrong. Vivi and I have decided that we want to be together and we will stay. Point. "

I looked at him incredulously, understanding that he was irreducible, I chose to go another way.

"You could at least let go of this idea of marriage," I suggested.

"We have no reason to postpone anything. We decide and let's move on. And if the only thing you have to talk to me about is that, then we don't have anything to deal with. I'm on my way out with my fiancée. "

That said, it was going out and leaving me alone, standing and stunned in place.

Viviane was already in the car, in the hitchhiker's seat when I looked in her direction. He came in and slammed the door with a force greater than necessary and I realized that he was also upset, just like me.

He left with the car and a few minutes later, I was still standing in the same place. Seeing the two of them hanging out together, as in so many other moments I'd witnessed, was something common to me, but this time it was different, an unpleasant feeling in my chest.

"What do you do standing there, my son? "

I turned quickly toward the voice, my heart racing. She had been startled by Mom's sudden appearance.

" I was here deciding if I should go back to the company to pick up some papers I forgot or if I should leave it for tomorrow before traveling " I blatantly lied.

She looked at me inquisitively, as if to decide whether or not to accept my explanation, but eventually, she just nodded.

"Let's get in. I'd like to talk to my oldest son a bit before his trip tomorrow. I will miss you very much, dear. "

We walked to the mansion arm in arm, and I still looked at the gate where my brother and Viviane had left more than ten minutes ago.

Viviane

João Felipe had traveled once again that morning to New York. He should be very happy with himself, after all, he was accomplishing his goals and doing what he liked best, making money.

I sighed resignedly.

I was leaving the university, and this time I had been able to attend the whole class without suffering from bouts of nausea. At least something good, because I already knew that I couldn't take it anymore. But my joy was short-lived and as soon as I left the room, I rushed to the bathroom of my classroom, putting all my breakfast out.

João Pedro came to pick me up and we were now coming home together.

"It's very thoughtful today. "

"You too," I said and smiled.

Despite the mild weather between us, we kept quiet in the mansion, since each had a lot to think about, given the big step we were about to take in our lives.

Jack was dedicated to his wife and son, working in New York, and, as the world was very small, he was now part of the team that was assisting Felipe in the installation of the foreign branch of Mendes de Albuquerque.

A lot was changing and there was still a lot to happen. I hadn't told anyone else about my pregnancy yet, as JP and I decided it was best to wait for everyone to be used to our relationship, before making one more announcement.

My parents were satisfied with my relationship with João Pedro and our future marriage, but Mistress Lúcia was very restless and I was sure that she was suspicious of something. But I wasn't going to ask questions, since I wasn't willing to answer yours if it was the subject I feared the most: my pregnancy.

We were already entering the mansion when João Pedro took my hand and gave me a snapping kiss, smiling like the pesky boy he always had been and who had been missing for the past few days.

"It's going to be okay. It's going to be alright. We will be happy and take very good care of this child who is there in his womb. "

"It even seems like you're trying to convince yourself, not me, as I believe was your intention," I said smiling.

"I'm not trying to convince anyone. I'm just affirming our future together. And let's leave that funeral atmosphere there. I've gotten tired of thinking about things that are beyond my means. "

He said this and left, practically dragging me down the halls toward his room, but I stopped him from continuing.

"I'm going to my house, JP! I'm going to have lunch at home, eat my mother's food, and get some rest."

" All this we can do together since lunch is prepared by Lucinha, my amorzão, and my room is really like being your room. " My house, your house."

I couldn't help but smile at JP's manner. I was missing his excitement.

"I also want to take a shower, JP. And your home is your home. Then we talked. "

"Vivi, we have to start the preparations for our wedding. You can't take away from me the opportunity to prepare a spectacular party! "

"You can be at ease. Kisses. "

Despite JP's angry face, I smiled and went home, where to my surprise, I found my parents gathered, chatting in the kitchen.

Noticing my entrance, they seemed to interrupt something they were talking about and their expressions indicated that the reason for the interruption had been me.

" It's over, daughter! " My mother tried to disguise it.

"What were you talking about? Something I can't know? " I decided to interrogate.

"Sit here, daughter," my father asked. " Better we tell Vivi, Lúcia. Soon she will also be part of the family."
