I AM THE NEW ALPHA Chapter 4

He laughed, the sound echoing through the air like a cruel mockery of the love I had once believed in. It was a bitter reminder that my hopes for a future with him were nothing more than fragile illusions.

Finally, our gazes met, and I saw a coldness in his eyes that sent a shiver down my spine. His voice, low and firm, cut through the surrounding noise, leaving no room for doubt or reconciliation.

"You're an eighteen-year-old orphan who hasn't even awakened her wolf," he stated, his words laced with a condescension that made my blood boil. "And let us not forget your character. I need a deserving mate, someone who can be a strong Luna for the pack." The words hung in the air like a noose around my neck, tightening with each passing second. "Marie, I reject you as my mate."

My world crumbled around me as the bond we had once shared shattered into irreparable pieces. Tears streamed down my face, a testament to the overwhelming pain that consumed me. I shook my head in agony, my voice choked with a mixture of disbelief and heartache, unable to find the words to respond.

The weight of rejection settled deep within my soul, leaving me hollow and broken. The pain of his betrayal was a searing fire that ravaged my heart, leaving behind only ashes of what once was.

I lay there on the floor, my vision blurred by tears, as Michel walked away without a backward glance. Through my tear-filled eyes, I watched as Michel disappeared around the corner, leaving me behind.

I cried, but I promised to myself, it’s the last time for me to cry for him. After this, I would forget him.

Overwhelmed by the weight of Michel's rejection, I crumbled beneath the weight of my shattered desires. Each sob felt like a knife to my heart, a painful reminder of the love I had lost.

Struggling to catch my breath, I clutched my chest as a suffocating darkness enveloped me. The intensity of my emotions, coupled with the devastating blow of the severed mate bond, became too much for my fragile soul to bear. It was as if the very essence of my being was crumbling, the threads of my existence unraveling before my eyes.

As darkness closed in, my vision blurred and my body weakened. I fought to stay conscious, to resist the pull of oblivion, but the pain, both physical and emotional, was relentless. It consumed me, devouring any remnants of strength I had left.

Unable to endure the anguish any longer, I succumbed to the overwhelming darkness that beckoned me. The world around me faded away, replaced by a void where my shattered dreams and broken heart dwelled. I lost consciousness, slipping away from the cruel reality that had become my existence.

In that moment of surrender, the mate bond that once connected us became a double-edged sword, inflicting wounds too deep to bear. The future I had once envisioned with Michel had crumbled into dust, leaving behind only a void filled with shattered hopes and aching emptiness.

But even in the depths of despair, a glimmer of resilience flickered within me. The pain may have rendered me unconscious for now, but deep down, I knew that this was not the end of my story.

Somewhere amidst the ruins of my shattered desires, a flicker of strength and determination remained. I vowed to rise from the ashes, to rebuild my heart and reclaim my destiny, no longer bound by the chains of a love that had turned to ashes.

When I woke up again, I was lying on the bed in Kendall's dollhouse, surrounded by those damned dolls with their creepy smiles.

"Nicholas, Marie was raised by our couple as our own daughter, I think you understand how much she means to us." Damon's voice came from the doorway, "I mean, you need to add a little more chips."

"Dear Damon, if you and Aurora really consider Marie as your own daughter, you wouldn't have made this deal with me." It was the old Nicholas, "We're both adults, there's no need to play such childish game with me. I will not pay a penny more than the price already agreed upon. The choice is yours, to do as you agreed at the beginning, or I will leave now and tell everyone what you and Aurora really are under the mask of the kind couple."

Overwhelmed by despair, tears streamed down my face as I listened to the two men haggling over my "price."

In that moment, I turned my head to the side, only to catch sight of the open window with the moon hanging in the night sky.

A sudden thought crossed my mind — an urgent question that pierced through the haze of fear and despair. Should I escape? Would it be better to risk my life out there than endure the torment of Nicholas any longer?

The walls of my prison felt like they were closing in, and the air grew heavy with a suffocating sense of urgency.

As the notion took hold, I mustered every ounce of strength within me to sit up from the cold, unforgiving bed. The very thought of freedom ignited a flicker of hope within my heart, igniting a desperate need to break free from the clutches of my tormentor.

But before I could fully gather my resolve, the sound of the door creaking open sliced through the silence of the room. Panic surged through me like a tidal wave, crashing against my senses, and I knew I had to act quickly.

I closed my eyes, feigning unconsciousness, hoping that Nicholas would believe his twisted games had broken me completely.

"My dear, beautiful Marie," Nicholas's voice slithered through the room, each word dripping with sickening excitement. The weight of his presence was suffocating, and I fought to control my racing heartbeat. "Blame your parents for selling you to me."

My fingers brushed against a cold object, and relief flooded through me. A wine bottle. Clutching the top half tightly, I braced myself, ready to strike with all my might as Nicholas drew closer.

In the next moment, his decaying body pressed against mine, his repulsive breath brushing against my skin. A surge of revulsion coursed through me, threatening to overpower my resolve.

With every ounce of courage I possessed, I squeezed my eyes shut, shutting out the horror unfolding before me.

I swung the bottle downward with all the force I could muster, the sound of shattering glass echoing through the room, piercing the suffocating silence. The impact landed true, the bottle connecting with Nicholas's skull, sending him reeling backward.

A look of shock and disorientation flashed across his face before his body crumpled to the ground, unconsciousness claiming him in an instant. The weight of his presence lifted from me as the room filled with a palpable sense of relief.

Shards of glass pierced my skin, a painful reminder of the battle I had just waged.

Blood pumping in my veins, I wasted no time. Without hesitation, I ripped off my shirt, using it to stem the bleeding from my wounds. Adrenaline coursed through me as I made my way to the windowsill, my mind focused on the single goal of escape.

But my escape was not yet within reach. Just as I prepared to make my way to the windowsill, a figure emerged from the shadows, blocking my path. Kendall, my treacherous step-sister, stood before me, a wicked smile curling her lips.

"So, little Marie thought she could escape, huh?" she sneered, her voice dripping with venom. "Not so fast, darling."

Fear surged through me, mingling with the urgency of my escape. Kendall lunged at me, her fists swinging with a fury fueled by resentment and envy. I ducked and dodged, using every ounce of agility to evade her vicious blows.

"You'll never be free, Marie," Kendall spat, her voice laced with malice.
