Inferno & Steeled Alpha Chapter 16

*Abi POV*

I can feel myself slipping away when I hear Omario’s voice.

“Abigail, can you hear me?”

I don’t try to respond. I want to go, I am tired. My people will just have to forgive me because I can’t free them. Omario will have to forgive me too. He tried to help but it’s really useless if I have no wolf.

“Abi, please squeeze my hand.”

Omario continues to plead. He is a good person and I am grateful for everything he has done for me, but I can’t do this anymore.

“Abi, you have a wolf. I have seen her.”

What? Is he trying to trick me?

“Her name is Nina, sh…she is strong, vengeful and powerful. She will destroy dad and me,” he continues.

That makes no sense but I don’t know if I should believe him or not. I did hear him whisper from a distance, maybe…

I do owe my people to find out and to try harder.

Omario is sitting next to the bed when I open my eyes. He looks so sad, it hurts.

“You are making this up, aren’t you?”

I don’t recognise my weak voice but his eyes light up and a smile forms on his face.

“Abi.”

His soft tender voice makes me feel so guilty and want to cry.

“She’s red and blazing fire like an inferno,” he continues, making no sense. I have never heard of a wolf like that.

“You need a doctor, Your Majesty.”

He laughs, making an infectious sound that makes me smile unintentionally.

“It’s Omario for you and which part don’t you believe?”

“There is no such wolf and why would I kill you?”

I don’t think even I’m my wildest imagination ever killing him.

“I don’t know but your wolf hates me. I get a painful shock every time I touch you.”

His confession is really shocking. “What?”

“I am sorry, I should have told you. I thought I could figure out why Nina hates me and stop her from ever coming.”

“You wanted to stop my wolf so I could remain wolf-less?” I ask, flabbergasted.

“Yes.”

I study him for a moment. He does not sound like he is playing or making this up. It sounds too bizarre to be made up. This means I really have a wolf, Nina, apparently. I wonder if the mutation is the reason I have not felt her but I am shocked that she hates Omario.

“I am sorry about the shocks.”

Those sound painful and he really does not deserve them.

He nods his head but I can see the concern on his face.

“Titan. Do I shock him too?”

He shakes his head. “Nina likes him.”

His response confuses me more.

“That does not make any sense. It’s not like one can live when the other is dead.”

He shrugs his shoulders.

I still want to know more about this but the door swings open and my friend walks in.

“The sky is clear, she’s awake isn’t she?”

Omario only nods his head while I study Terrence. He is a servant but has never looked like one. He talks and walks with an aura of nobility. Even though he is now Omario’s Gamma, he should be cautious of his place as a servant, yet he walks in and talks to him like an equal.

“Abi!” Terrence exclaims the moment our eyes meet.

I avoid his gaze. I know how he feels about attempting suicide. “Terrence. I am sorry.”

“You should be. You were selfish and…”

“Ahem!” Omario clears his throat but Terrence continues.

“Irresponsible!”

Omario shoots him a deadly stare.

“Do you want me to throw you out?” he asks with his hands clenched into fists. His reactions really confuse me. He is meant to be pretending to care about his claim on me but he looks genuinely angry with Terrence.

My eyes meet Omario’s angry ones. “Don’t, he is right.”

Terrence and most servants do believe that I will one day free them. I understand why he feels so strongly about what I tried to do.

“He can be right out of here,” Omario says firmly. My hero.

“Apologies, Your Majesty, but Abi must know that her life is not just hers alone. She has a responsibility and the state of the future generation depends on her!”

“Get the fuck out of here before I get my hands on you!” Omario roars the same time the door opens and his fiancée and his best friend walk in.

Terrence bows his head and walks out without acknowledging the two people at the door. He is angry with me but I wish he could take me along.

Omario stands up to welcome his fiancée, who runs into his arms. They embrace for a long time before she places her palm on his face and gazes at his eyes. The two of them look really perfect together. Olivia is one of the most beautiful women in the kingdom. She never engages with us servants when she’s around the castle. We like her because she keeps to her own class, never mistreats us and we all wish we were her.

“I am sorry about yesterday. I was just sad about Sylvester. He raised me, you know,” she says with a melodic voice before planting a kiss on his lips.

Omario pulls her closer to him with a huge grin on his face. “You are going to have to make it up to me,” he says mischievously, making her blush. Frode was right about them being mates, I hope I meet mine one day and he is just as gentle.

“Ahem!” Floyd clears his throat and Omario laughs, letting go of Olivia and embracing him.

“We hear you almost made all of us meet our doom,” Loyd says before glancing at me.

They all turn to look at me while I avoid making eye contact with them.

Omario laughs. “You are still alive, aren’t you?”

“I guess,” Loyd shrugs his shoulder and laughs too but Olivia has this dark look on her that quickly fades away. I hope Omario was telling the truth when he said she understands all of this.

“Heads up, Aunty and I are moving into the castle today.”

Omario looks at her confused.

“She sees no reason to stay on her own and feels that she will serve the throne better when staying in,” she explains.

“Serve the throne or dad?” Omario sneers and I read between the lines. I am the least surprised that Brenda and Alpha Theo are already planning to be together even though her husband died a few days ago. I can’t help but shutter at the thought of how hard our lives are going to be. We all got to rest when she went home in the afternoons. She will now be here day and night. I can almost guarantee that there will be no more rest for us.

“That too.” Olivia responds.

“Great, just great.” Omario’s sarcastic tone carries a pain he tries really hard to hide.

“I am sorry, they have their ways,” Olivia says.

“It’s not your fault, I just hate the authority this will give your evil aunt over my mother.”

I guess Omario does not hide his hatred for Brenda even to his fiancée.

“Talking about evil, Blake is the new Beta.” Loyd reports.

“Fuck!” Omario curses, taking the words out of my mouth. Our lives are really going to get worse, much worse.
