Mated to my human best friend.
Chapter 7.
Kyle
A few weeks later.
"Just let me die," I cried out to Kate. Ever since I broke up with Tina, I have been missing her badly. I developed the habit of drinking, and I always nagged Kate about my broken heart.
"Why did you break up with her when you know you’re going to regret it?" Kate asked, "I don’t know what you were thinking when you chose to break up with her that day. Do you still remember all the words you said to her?"
I stared at Kate before uttering, "I never regret my actions or the words that I said to her. I hate seeing you hurt, and I know all they say to you is going to hurt you, especially when she’s the one behind all those dramas. I can't be on her side in all that shit just because she’s my girlfriend. You are my best friend and the first woman in my life. How dare they hurt my woman?"
"Your woman?" She asked. I can see how shocked she was. It's written all over her face. Is she that shocked because I called her my woman?
"Yes. You’re my friend and also my woman," I repeated firmly, "I won’t let anything bad happen to you, and I hurt whenever I see you in pain,"
I know that she’s only my friend, but it hurts me every time I see her in pain. I don’t know what came over me when I broke up with Tina.
All I know is that she irritates me so much that I want to kill her. I have always placed her in my heart as an angel who couldn’t hurt a fly. I never knew she was two-faced. She really made an effort in hiding her true colors from me. Even now that I know who she really was, I still can’t figure out why I’m missing that bitch. There was no hiding it. I missed her badly.
It's been two weeks since my breakup with her. Two weeks of not hearing from her. Just like I warned her, she has been avoiding me like a plague. I ran into her in the school's hallway but she ran away when she saw me. She’s not remorseful at all. She never apologized to Kate for what she did.
"Are you okay, Kyle?" I stared at the worried Kate.
"Yeah, sure, I'm okay." I responded with a smile, "You don’t have to be worried about me, darling."
"I’m sorry, Ky. I caused all this shit," she whispered lowly, "I think we should go beg Tina,"
"What?!" I was shocked, "How could you say such a thing? Why should we go beg her when she’s the one at fault? You caused nothing, Kate. She should not have treated you like that. I’m not begging her. If she’s smart enough and feels remorseful and she apologizes to you, then I can consider forgiving and accepting her back or not,"
"Don’t let your ego destroy you, my dear Ky," Kate cooed, "I know you are still in love with her and you miss her every single day. So you should drop your ego and let's go beg her. I don’t want to be the cause of your breakup. I don’t want people to start pointing fingers at me for destroying your perfect relationship with her,"
"Enough!" I yelled at her, "What the hell do you take me for? Why would I wanna go beg Tina? You sound as if I'm the one at fault here, and I'm going to kill whoever points their fingers at you. I will fucking break their fingers and kill them,"
Kate sighed! What else can I say, Kyle? I don’t want to see you unhappy like this. Ever since you broke up with her, you have been drinking, and you never for once stopped talking about her, even when you're drunk. You never stop talking about Tina,"
She had a point. And her words made me recall just how it all started between Tina and I.
"Do you know why I love her?" I asked, recalling it all. Kate shook her head, "I saw her for the first time at the roadside. I was driving, and she was helping an old woman cross the road while helping her carry her heavy bag as well. It made me think she was a nice girl, and I fell in love with her at first sight. You know she was also carrying her grocery bag. It was one hell of a generous act. That's why I found it hard to believe a girl like that could hurt you. She betrayed my trust in her. She made everyone hate you and still tried to blame you for what you didn’t do. How can people suddenly change like that?"
"People change every day, Kyle. Some people change every single minute,"
I was still talking to Kate when my phone suddenly buzzed. I took it out of my pocket to check who was calling. Speaking of the devil. It was Tina. What does she want from me? I rejected her calls but she didn't stop calling. My phone kept ringing and ringing.
"Are you not going to pick up your calls?" Kate asked, watching me keenly. The phone rang again. "Pick up the damn phone,"
"It’s Tina, and I don't want to pick it up,"
"You have to pick it up. She must have something important to say to be calling this much. Or are you not curious to know what she wants to tell you? Pick it up and hear what she has to say,"
She’s right. Kate knows me the best. I’m curious to know what she wants to say.
"Fine. I will take the call only because you asked me to," I said through my clenched teeth. My phone rang again, and this time I picked it up.
"Hello, what do you want?" I sounded harsh.
"Hello, baby. Are you still mad at me? I’m so sorry for the mistake I made. I’ve realized my mistake, and I hope you’re going to forgive me. Can you find it in your heart to forgive me? She asked, "I know better now, honey. I know I shouldn’t have treated her the way I did,"
I stayed silent. "Kyle, are you there? Please talk to me. I’m sorry for hurting someone dear to you,"
"Okay. I forgive you, Tina," I responded, "But I think you are forgetting something here,"
"What's that, baby?" She asked.
"You're apologizing to the wrong person. You offended Kate, and not me,"
"I’m sorry. I will beg her when next I see her in school," she said, "I hope you can forgive and forget all my bad deeds,
"Okay. Just don’t do that again. I won’t forgive you if you dare hurt her again, and there won’t be a second chance between us again," I threatened.
We talked for a long time, and she promised to change for the better. She pleaded over and over and I chose to trust her once again. I feel relieved and I'm hoping to see a change in her. I hope Kate is going to find it in her heart to forgive her.
I hear someone mock cough beside me. "Thank God you guys are back together, lover boy," Kate teased.
"You made me forgive her easily," I said, putting my phone back inside my pocket, "She told me she was going to ask for your forgiveness. I hope you can forgive her as well for my sake,"
She stayed silent and began to watch me. I don’t know what’s going on inside that head of hers. I’m scared she’s not going to forgive her. I don't know what I'm gonna do if she refuses to accept her apology.
"Sure. I'm going to forgive her for your sake," she finally stated, "Are you happy now?"
"Yes, thank you, Kate."
"Ha! I just remembered you will be celebrating your birthday in a week's time, right? Will you be celebrating it in a big way? Do you want me to throw a birthday party for you?"
"No. You don’t have to do that. I won’t be needing a birthday party because I will be leaving here for good," she announced.
"What? What did you just say, Kate? Where the hell are you going?"
