CHAPTER 47. A ROGUE

RYDER

“Where is he?!“ I demanded sharply as I walked through the main door of the pack house. It was a two-storied building, situated at the heart of the city.

“He's at the secluded area,“ Victor replied, and he, alongside the warlords, led the way to the secluded area. Victor was from the Beta lineage and called the shots here in the pack house whenever the Warlords were away on their missions.

Being here today made me briefly nostalgic. This place held a lot of fun memories, back when I was young and free to indulge all my crazy whims.

Ever since I assumed the position as the Alpha of the pack, things changed. The palace held me hostage with its overwhelming responsibilities. I had no time to visit. Been a hell of a time since I came here. All I do is give instructions on what I need from the pack house. But today, I was forced to grace it with my presence.

I looked around the quiet abode and wondered just how boisterous it would have been if I hadn't asked that everyone evacuate the house before my arrival.

The ding sound was followed by the parting of the elevator doors. We hurried out and halted in front of a wall camouflage which was in reality, a door.

Anyone who sees it would think of it as a wall, and thereby, won't get curious to invade it. There were just a few of us who knew of its existence and what it's used for.

The walls parted and a staircase formed, leading down into a damp room. We took turns going through the small passageway.

The damp room was immediately lit with different neon lights. The room was cozy and average size. The warlords' trainees mounted at all sides, keeping the room under tight surveillance.

In the middle of the room was a chandelier that emitted a slight silver light and shone on a bed with rod railings.

Jason's unconscious body was sprawled on the bed. I felt a scalding twitch in my heart as I took him in. His hands were cuffed to the railings and so were his legs.

“Doctor,“ Darius acknowledged as light footsteps approached us.

I was forced to tear my intense gaze away from Jason and fixed them on the doctor instead. He was one of the best in the pack, and of course, he was a wolf. But he wasn't just any kind of Doctor, he was among the specialists that have studied the rogues' anatomy over the years and can help in situations such as this.

“Go cover yourself up. You don't wanna get infected,” Dr. Freya gestured at Darius with his head. “All of you,“ He pointed to the other warlords and Victor.

The others went ahead but Darius stayed back. When the doctor cast him a look, Darius shrugged, ”I'm good, don't worry,”

“Oh, I'm not worried about you, alright? I just don't want you to be a carrier of the Rogue venom. You're gonna get a lot of innocent souls infected,“

”That's never gonna happen,” Darius replied confidently.

“Dr. Freya,“ I breathed out, shaking his firm hands. “How is he?“

“We injected him with a dissolver to subdue the venom, but that's as far as the help we could give. In all our years of studying the complexity of the rogues, one thing we never found is the cure for a pure-blood mixed with venomous rogue blood,“

“So what exactly is this? Has Jason always been a rogue in disguise or is this new?” I didn't try to hide the anxiety in my voice.

“I'm not so sure, Alpha. But this is one of those rare, complicated cases. I'm afraid he'll have to stay in surveillance much longer,” Dr. Freya shook his head, seeming as downcasted as I was.

I took in Jason's features again, letting myself delve into the churning memories of what just happened half an hour ago.

After thoroughly searching every inch of the castle for him, I couldn't find him anywhere. And then, I was alerted that he was fleeing with Hara. He'd gone to her apartment and insisted on being the one to bring her back to the castle. Jay let him have his way, while he stayed back to handle the angry mob.

Jason, on the other hand, seemed to have other plans. He took the route leading out of the pack, and when the men realized he'd been biased and chased after him, it was one hell of a pursuit.

When they caught up to him, he was in some sort of blood rage. Feisty. Monstrous. Lethal. He killed five warlord trainees and six palace soldiers.

He lost consciousness after that and he was brought down here. And Hara…

My heart kick-started as I recalled just what Darius had reported to me half an hour ago.

“It seems Jason has been a rogue in disguise. And Hara, it seems she's been kidnapped. I think Jason had her taken away,“ Those were the exact words of Darius and the reason I was plunged deep into this ocean of distraught.

My mate was missing and My Beta was a rogue, the worst kind. It was all too overwhelming to comprehend. I still wouldn't believe it if I wasn't seeing him right now.

”Does he have to look that pale?“ I asked, feeling slightly sick at how pale and cold his skin had gotten.

“That's the indispensable attribute of a rogue. Just like vampires, rogues have very freezing body temperatures, so they try different elixirs that could help keep them heated up. The difference between a rogue and a vampire's body is the fact that you could come in close contact with a vampire's body and not get hurt. You come in skin contact with a rogue, and you don't get to live enough to tell the tale,“ He gave a pointed look at Darius for not being covered.
