One Rocky Term Chapter 15

...She kept quiet for a while. "You're wrong about me wanting to see you. But you are right about something..." She paused for a minute.

"I am not here because I want to see you"...

"So why are you here?" I asked joining her on the bed.

"Well... I was basically living in the jail of a home in Los Angeles. I could barely breathe in peace. That motherfucker wouldn't even let me step out of the house.

"It became miserable when his divorce with my mom was finalized. It was just suffocating. So when I heard him talking to your mom over the phone one day, I got this great idea", she said.

"They are still in contact?" I asked but then realized how stupid the question was but by then she had answered.

"I guess, yeah. But I don't think they plan on getting together. Although I would love it if they did. Your mom is pretty cool and it would be great if she could live with us, the only problem is that asshole"

"No fucking way! I am not living with you guys in Los Angeles", I said.

"Who said you are living there? I just want your mom not you", she said.

"Where exactly is your own mom and why aren't you living with her?"

"I have no idea. My dad got custody because she was suffering from substance abuse. But I would rather have her around. Plus it's my dad's fault that she started taking drugs. I just freaking hate that guy", she said.

I was grateful enough that we at least agreed on something. I was about to ask her a question when her phone started ringing.

I looked at the screen of the phone and was able to pick up the contact name 'fucker'.

The contact photo was an elderly man with an almost pale complexion and a few wrinkles decorating his face. I concluded that he was probably my dad seeing the fine resemblance between him and Kylie.

I wondered if I looked like him. I cringed at the thought knowing that I probably did.

I never really wanted to see him after the age of seven when I got tired of asking. I don't exactly recall how I started hating him but I felt as if he abandoned us although my mother never seemed bothered.

My friends at school had said that if I didn't have a dad that would mean he left because he didn't love either me or my mom. I didn't find it hard to believe and still held on to that reasoning even when I got older.

It didn't make any sense that he never cared he had a daughter, never asked to see her. Then why would I do the same if he didn't? I was very fine with acting as if he didn't exist because to me, he didn't.

I snapped out of my thoughts as Kylie rejected the call.

"Was that your dad?" I asked. She gave me a quizzical look.

"You mean our dad. And yeah, he is. How don't you know the dick that got your mom pregnant for you?"

I didn't reply. She laid back on the bed. I still couldn't imagine how I would stay a whole night with this asshole.

Realising that my mother paid for the whole rooms on this floor, I decided to stay in a different one.

As if on a cue, I heard the doorbell. I heard Kylie grumbling about the door not just having a handle on the outside so that the person could let himself in.

After about a minute of the hearing the door bell, she stood up from the bed and headed for the door. She opened the door and said a brief "hi" before she started returning to the room.

The guy stood there for a while before he came in, the door closing behind him.

"So I am not getting a hug?" He asked after a while and I looked at him confused.

"You wish", Kylie muttered lazily from her bed. I was now standing by the table.

He walked over to where she was sitting on the bed.

"Really?" He asked inching closer to her. I stared at the both of them entirely lost.

Didn't she just arrive in Nigeria like yesterday? So how did she know this guy? Or maybe they knew before? Wait, she had never left Los Angeles before now... Had she?

I snapped out of my thoughts and saw them sucking each other's faces. I stood up and left before they actually started having sex in front of me.

They didn't seem to be bothered by me suddenly leaving. I was already out the door when I realized I didn't have the key to any of the other rooms.

I turned back to the shut door really cursing this hotel for putting such miserable doors.

I considered going downstairs but I knew that would be an extra stress and Kylie would probably not pick the call to confirm.

Against my will, I hit the bell. I stood there waiting for like forever. The time that had passed when she opened the door was more than enough for me to have gone downstairs and come back up here.

She just rolled her eyes on seeing me and turned around returning to the room. She was already crouched over the drawer before I could properly enter the room.

Before I could speak, she tossed four cards in my direction not caring that I wasn't in the position to catch them.

"You can choose the room you want", she said as I bent down to pick only one of the four key cards she had thrown. "And take these too", she said handing me a bunch of shirts I assumed were hers. I stared at them realizing that I would most likely be wearing them for the night. I was really going to wear her clothes.

As much as I hated the idea I really didn't have a choice. I reminded myself that she was still my sister and there was really no problem wearing her clothes.

I couldn't even force a smile as I left the room. Hopefully nothing would bring me back there. And luckily, she had sent the delivery boy to my room to give me the pizza she ordered.

I wasn't a fan of pizza but I still felt really happy that she would not let me starve. I might actually end up liking her.

Scratch that, there was no way I was going to ever like Kylie West. I was still staring in confusion at my mother's text the next morning.

Mom:

'I heard you're still on Kylie's case. You couldn't even spend time with the only sister you have. I really thought you could be better but guess I was wrong.'

Before I knew what was happening, I was banging on Kylie's door after furiously pressing the bell.

After some seconds of punching the door, it flew open revealing an annoyed Kylie.

'So she could actually get the door this quickly' I thought as I glared at her.

"Why are you trying to wake me up so early?! It is just six a.m. Who wakes up by this time?!" She asked obviously frustrated that she was suddenly woken up.

"What the hell did you tell my mom about me that she had to ruin my mood this early in the morning?" I yelled.

"Jesus Alya! Is that why you freaking woke me up? I was just messing around a bit. It was obvious I was being sarcastic. I didn't know she would take it seriously", Kylie yelled back.

"Why couldn't you just be straight?"

"I don't know. Maybe cause I am used to always being sarcastic?"

"That is bullshit!"

"You know I could just call her right now and clear everything up. This shouldn't be your reason for ruining my morning!" Kylie said slight anger still evident in her voice.

"Then call her already!" I said matching her tone.

"You are so annoying you know", she said in irritation.

"She's probably still sleeping now. There's something called time difference okay?" She said looking really tired.

"You are just looking for reasons not to call her. You know what? Suite yourself", I said leaving her room. I packed the little things from my room before calling my driver.

And as incompetent as he had always been, he didn't answer any of my calls. Even Stephanie wasn't picking her calls and worst of all, I just realized I still had to be in school for my exams!
