~Alya
The mid-term break ran past quickly and I was soon walking through Venos High once again. As grateful as I was to get rid of loneliness, it was still a total bummer.
I was really late and by the time I was in class, the class was almost full spare the vacant seat next to mine which belonged to Alesscia.
I sat down the same time the English teacher walked in. She waved off the class' attempt to compliment. After the formality of asking how we were doing, she started giving the same talk we had heard quite a number of times before.
"You all know that your summary carries a bulk of the mark in your WAEC. The summary alone carries about twenty marks and that is why I am trying my best to make sure you all learn it. How many of you did the last assignment I gave you on it? If you did the assignment put up your hand."
I and a few other of my classmates put up our hands.
"That's great. Five of you, put down your hands. The rest leave my class", she said taking a seat. The rest of the class complied knowing the kind of person she was.
"Make sure that if you are seating here, you actually did your assignment because if I check it myself and find out you didn't, get ready to accompany the cleaners in doing their work", she said.
Geez. Who pissed her today?
"Now, I would like each of you to come forward and read out the summary you..."
She was interrupted by a junior student.
"Please excuse me teacher, the principal wants to see Alya Chizitaram", the innocent looking little girl said in what was an almost inaudible voice.
"You can leave", she said.
Thank God. Only the Lord knows who vexed this woman today but I was so grateful to leave her miserable class. I stood up and started heading for the door when I heard her voice again.
"I wasn't talking to you. Return to your seat!" She ordered.
The hell was wrong with this woman? I returned to my seat and after about five minutes, she permitted me to leave.
So tell me now, what was the point of what she did?
I walked straight to the principal's office. After hearing the irrelevant reason I was summoned there, I started to walk back to my class.
I met Alesscia on the way back standing outside the school's art room. Oh! So Evans was in school after all! I made to walk past her but she stopped me.
"Can we talk?" She asked.
Um... What are we doing before, swimming?
"Yeah", I said.
"I have been thinking a lot recently and I realised I was being a total fool. I'm really sorry for behaving so bitchy towards you when all you did was to be honest with me. You think we could be friends?" She asked with a smile.
"Of course. It would be an honor to be friends with Alesscia Evans", I said trying to flatter her. Although I did mean it.
My mom was a celebrity and all but only I and a few other people knew that. There wouldn't be any harm in flexing a celebrity friend.
"Are you serious?" She asked looking amused.
"Yeah. I try not to lie", I said shrugging. She giggled. I was about asking her why she didn't attend the English class when she pushed open the door leading to the art room.
I saw a girl seating on Devan's lap making out with him.
This was the fucking limit! This is a school not some fucking brothel. Why couldn't these teenagers get this into their thick skulls?!
I turned to see Alesscia's face. She looked shattered. I felt for her and at the same time didn't.
They paused what they were doing for a moment perhaps realizing they had company. It was then that I realized that the girl was Isabella Onyeka known by the short form of her name- Isa.
The same idiot that had a fight with Alda in the class over her stupid Josh of a boyfriend and almost died when Alda kissed her boyfriend.
And to think that Alesscia actually stood up for her. You know, Alda was way better than Isa could ever be. The both were equally horrible and mindless people but I would choose Alda over her.
When I finally turned, Alesscia was missing. I caught glimpse of her retreating figure. Was she going to just freaking walk away like that?
No way in hell am I letting her do that. At least, if she didn't want to say anything, she could just break up with him and free herself.
I ran after her and caught up to her almost immediately but she didn't stop walking.
"Alesscia stop!" I said and she finally halted.
"What's your problem? Why didn't you say..."
"Hey babe", I was interrupted by the devil Devan. I also mentally cringed at the word 'babe'.
"You didn't say hi", he kept talking to Alesscia who just stood rooted to a spot not even uttering a word.
"What's wrong?" He asked when he was only greeted by Alesscia's silence.
'Can't you sense that you are being a pest and quietly fuck off?' I thought to myself.
"And who is this your cute friend? She looks hot", he said referring to me and I balled my fist ready to punch the living daylight out of this fool if Alesscia didn't utter a word in the next...
"Shut up Devan!" She said. "What were you even doing in there..."
"Did that make you jealous? I am so sorry babe. I was just enjoying my own part of the deal. I'm so sorry I did it here, I just got carried away. She was just so..."
"What the actual fuck?" I just had to intervene. I was on the verge of puking. He was really a terrible person. He narrowed his eyes as he stared at me.
"Mind your own business", he snapped.
Who did he think he was talking to, his five year old sister? I was about to yell at him when Alesscia spoke.
"She is right Devan. Like what the fuck? You are such a disgusting person and I don't even know how I have been tolerating you"
She looked frustrated as she balled her fists. I saw Isa step into the scene from the corner of my eye. I also saw a few students gathering, a few even pulling out their phones.
Don't they like have classes to attend and weren't the use of phones disallowed during school hours? Wasn't there any teacher around to witness this?
I was already feeling uncomfortable by the small crowd that had gathered. I really wanted to leave the place but I decided to stay for Alesscia's sake.
"What are you saying?" Devan asked probably taken aback by her behavior.
"What I am saying is that I am done with all this. Am tired okay? It's over. That's if there was ever something that had to be over in the first place but for the world's sake, I am breaking up with you Devan Mike", she said and Devan just looked at her really surprised.
I mentally gave her a high-five. I was more gladdened by the fact that people caught it on video. I couldn't wait to see Alesscia's fans trolling Devan. I had finally seen something that would lead me to his Instagram page.
"Alesscia..."
She walked out of the place with him following her. It took all the strength in me not to laugh.
I saw Isa moping at the floor. I glared at her for a short while before leaving the place. I entered the library since it was close and the crowd hadn't died down yet.
I seized the opportunity to get a textbook I had been wanting to get for a long time but kept procrastinating. I went to the shelf to look for a textbook. Surprisingly, the librarian wasn't at the spot she would normally stay and the whole library was empty.
It spared me the trouble of having her interrogate me about being in the library while classes were still on but it also gave me the task of looking for the textbook without anyone's help.
The textbook I was looking for wasn't in any of the shelf's and I had searched almost every shelf in the library. Guess the book really is no longer in stock.
'Truly tragic', I thought. Determined not to give up, I started looking for it in the remaining shelves until I found it.
"Finally!" I exclaimed happy that my hard work wasn't wasted. I wanted to take a seat when I saw Ifeanyi reading at a corner. I took a step back on seeing him. I tried to leave without being noticed.
"Alya?" He called out and I froze in my step.
