One Rocky Term Chapter 23

...I immediately got worried. I followed her line of sight and saw her staring at... Genevieve Chidi?...

I still didn't understand what was going on but I rushed towards Alya.

"Alya?!" I called but she didn't say a word. She just stood transfixed. I turned and saw Genevieve also the same way.

"Alya?" I called louder this time. She still didn't move. Some people were already giving us their attention. I tapped her arm and she jerked away from me as if my touch had burned her. I stared at her confused and her expression matched mine.

"I have been calling your name for a while now. Are you alright?" I asked but didn't get an answer.

"Can we talk somewhere?" I asked her and she managed to nod.

We started walking away but I noticed her glancing back every once in a while. I turned around and saw Genevieve still staring at her. I was definitely missing something here.

When we got to a deserted part of the school, we stopped. She leaned on a wall and stared into space.

"I wanted to apologise for what happened at the library. I was carried away and not thinking very straight. I..." I stopped talking when she still stood transfixed.

"Alya? Are you listening?" I asked and got no answer.

"Alya!" I called louder this time and she still seemed lost.

"ALYA!"

Finally she snapped her head to me and raised a brow.

"Were you even listening to me?" I asked frustrated.

"No. I zoned out. But that doesn't give you any reason to yell my name that way. Don't ever yell my name like that in your life. I'm not your fucking maid", she said in a calm voice.

What was up with her?

"It's clear that I have wasted enough time here. I am leaving", she said and left me there.

I stood there staring at her retreating figure feeling a pang in my chest and I couldn't stop thinking about it the whole day.

~Chiamaka

I didn't feel like myself for the rest of the day after Ifeanyi just walked out on me. I swear I felt like banging my head against the wall when he did it.

Did I really mean so little? I felt really bad, miserably pained. Ouch for the person I had become. Ouch for the fact that I couldn't make him feel as bad as I was feeling right now.

I mean he left me. He left me! How could he and why would he? I felt tears fall down my cheeks. I was grateful that my mom couldn't make it to pick me from school today so my driver had to do so instead.

At least I could cry in peace without a million of frustrating questions being thrown at me.

We soon reached home. By then, I had almost forgotten the reason I was angry and I was busy on my phone. I was watching the video of Alesscia's break up with Devan.

It had been trending since this afternoon. Like big deal? Why couldn't people just get lives? What was so special about Alesscia anyway? She was just a stuck up bitch who happened to luckily gain a lot of attention.

I walked into the house still scrolling through Instagram. I almost bumped into my brother on the way up and he quickly apologized before I even could.

By the time I reached my room, I was exhausted. I wanted to turn off my phone when it chimed from a WhatsApp message I received.

It was from Kaira. I didn't want to, but I ended up opening the message. I kept staring at my phone in anger as my grip on the phone tightened.

Wow. How dare she? This couldn't happen! IT COULDN'T HAPPEN! IT WAS A LIE! A MASSIVE ONE!

In my mini madness, I threw the phone against the wall. It smashed against the wall violently before falling to the ground, the broken screen still in view.

It was still there. She was still there! I picked up the nearest object to me, which happened to be a lamp and crashed it against the phone.

A part of the screen cracked more but it didn't leave. The video was still playing. The phone was still functioning properly.

"Stop this!" My nanny yelled. I glared at her before picking up my alarm clock and smashing it against the phone.

A part of the screen went black but I could still see part of the video. I threw the last object which turned out to be some expensive flower vase that had always been wasting away in my room on it.

Finally, it blacked out. But I was still very annoyed. I picked up the glass sculpture on my bedside drawer and was about to throw it when I heard my mother's voice.

"Are you crazy!?" She exclaimed halting my action. The object fell from my hand onto the bed.

"What is wrong with you?!" She asked staring at the mess I had created in my room. I slumped onto my bed with a sigh. I wasn't in the mood for this question session.

"If Martina hadn't informed me about this, who knows what else you would have destroyed..."

I glared at my nanny from the corner of my eye.

"Will you tell me what is your problem you miserable child!?" My mother said and I looked up at her. It was then that I noticed Delight standing behind her.

"Chiamaka answer me!" She demanded.

"He left me", I said without even thinking once.

"Who left you?" She asked confusion evident on her face. I didn't answer just glared angrily at the floor.

"You know what, I don't care. I'm sick and tired of your madness. You just smashed a phone that cost eight hundred thousand naira not to talk of the vase, lamp and God knows what else you smashed. Thank God you didn't also damage the wall. That is the last phone you'll ever get. I am done spoiling you", she said and started leaving my room.

I was not even bothered. I could always buy myself another phone.

"And I'll also freeze your account. I can't tolerate anymore of your nonsense. I'll get these dummies moved out by tomorrow morning. I'm just sick of your madness. You really have to learn to outgrow this behavior of yours", she said.

In anger I picked up the sculpture I initially wanted to smash against my phone and as I was about to throw it at her retreating figure, a hand stopped my action.

I glared at Delight as she snatched my sculpture. I also caught my nanny staring at me wide-eyed.

"Are you crazy?!" Delight exclaimed.

"Oh. So you also think I am crazy?" I asked her.

"Of course not. I know you are not crazy. I was just preventing you from doing something stupid in anger. I mean what were you about to do? Kill your mom?" She asked.

"Of course not", I said realizing what I would have done if she didn't stop me.

"Okay. All that is in the past. Tell me why you are so angry", she said sitting next to me.

My anger resurfaced as I remembered the video. That mother fucking asshole. I felt like ridding her of every single bone in her body.

"Are you going to talk or keep glaring at the wall?" Delight asked.

"Yeah. I just saw this video from Kaira..." I started saying but noticed Martina was still standing at a corner of my room.

"Can you leave?" I asked rather rudely not caring that she was triple my age and even much older than my mother.

"Your mother asked me to keep an eye on you and make sure..."

"Get out!" I said plainly interrupting her. The old woman stared at me looking affected by my words and extremely insulted.

"Chiamaka! That's no way to speak to her. She's older than you..." Delight started saying but I interrupted her.

"That's my point. She should leave. I don't want old cargos hanging around me. I already have enough pests in my life as it is. I don't want additional burdens. If she had any respect for herself, she would go and get a life", I said.

"Chiamaka! That I work here doesn't give you the right to insult me. I must remind you that I am way older than you. I can't tolerate this anymore." And with those words, Martina left my room.

Good riddance!

"Why did you speak to her like that?" Delight asked glaring at me.

"You remember that we are alone now right?"

"Yeah, I know we are alone. But you shouldn't have spoken to her like that. She is older..."

"I just needed her to leave. She wouldn't have left if I didn't say what I just did."

"Still..."

"Do you want to hear why I am angry or not?" I asked frustrated by her constant attempts to preach to me. She sighed before nodding and I started narrating everything to her.
