One Rocky Term Chapter 32

~Third Person

The first thing Kaira did on entering the hostel room she was assigned was to plop down on her double spring bed.

She covered her face with a pillow as she screamed into it. Not able to contain her joy, she tossed it aside as she lay on her back smiling immensely.

He kissed her! He really kissed her!!

Not intentionally but it still happened. And although he seemed too eager to get away from her before Alya walked in, the fact remained that their lips touched.

She sat up on her bed as she stared at the mirror directly opposite her bed which she was lucky enough to get. There was normally only one mirror in the central position of a room.

But apart from the central mirror in the middle of the room, she also had one stationed opposite her bed.

She kept on staring at the mirror as her hands involuntarily went up to her lips. She kept on touching them as she stared stupidly at the mirror.

"Hia! There is nothing I shall not see on this planet. What the fuck are you even doing and why on earth are you staring at the mirror like a zombie?" Isa's voice came snapping Kaira out of whatever state she was in.

She had entered the room a few moments ago and had been trying to comprehend Kaira's actions.

"I can stare at the mirror if I wish to. I requested for it after all", she said staring at Isa, who was still dressed in her uniform, through the mirror.

"You can stare at the mirror for all I care but please know that other people also stay here and stop acting like a creep. Geez!" Isa said before heading for her bed which Chiamaka was seating on for some reason.

Kaira rolled her eyes. She detested Isa but she was not her problem at the moment. If Isa had known better she wouldn't have said anything to Kaira but so far she hadn't majorly interfered in her plan she wouldn't have a problem.

Her main problem was Alya Chizitaram. Then Chiamaka was not really much of a problem but was still included in the list. She really had no clue what was going to hit her which made it easier for Kaira.

Then there was Ifeanyi. She smiled to herself as the image of her kissing him flashed back in head.

"Why are you smiling like that? Which boy was unfortunate enough to ask you out now?" Chiamaka asked from the bed next to Kaira's which belonged to Isa.

"Nobody asked me out. It's just that I had a moment with this special somebody", Kaira said with a smile. She so wanted to chop Chiamaka's tongue off. Unfortunate enough to ask her out she had said. As if! Chiamaka would only be lucky enough to get half her looks and brains.

Well this wasn't exactly time for the storm so Kaira stayed calm.

"Whatever", Chiamaka said with an eye roll.

"You know we could actually be friends if you tried to be less bitchy", Kaira said and Chiamaka kept quiet.

"I have tried for you though. I exposed your cheating boyfriend and best friend..."

"Yeah. I remember your video", Chiamaka said uninterested.

"I wasn't the one kissing Ifeanyi in the video so stop acting so hostile towards me. I even got you a new phone since I was the reason you lost the old one. The phone I got you costs at least four times the last trash you had as a phone..."

"You can have your fucking phone back", Chiamaka said tossing the iPhone 13 to Kaira's bed.

"No. I don't want it back. The only point I am trying to make is that I have been nice to you all along and you still don't get that I just want to be friends", she said with a sad smile.

"You don't just want to be friends with me without a reason. We both know that much. I'm still yet to figure out what your reason might be but I think I'll give it a shot. You wouldn't be so bad an ally", Chiamaka said shrugging.

Kaira squealed and jumped up from her bed with a wide smile on her face. "Thank you so much. This really means a lot", she said to Chiamaka who just rolled her eyes.

Kaira smiled. 'She really should keep rolling her eyes until her eyeballs fall out' Kaira thought.

~Alya

I came back to the school really late. A little after eight pm. I had insisted on coming back to the school rather than staying at Demi's house but that was a terrible decision because I arrived to behold the locked school gates.

"It seems the gates are locked", Genevieve's driver said peering through the windscreen.

"I can see that", I said a little harshly. Remind me why I initially listened to Genevieve.

"Should I take you back home ma?"

"Ma!? I look like your granny? For Christ sake I am more than half your age so don't call me ma. That would be disrespectful on my part", I said in anger.

Why do people enjoy insulting themselves?

"Sorry m... I don't know your name"

"Alya"

"Okay Alya. Should I take you back home?"

"Home? That's not my home. Just let me get down and check if I could go in through the smaller gates. You can go home"

"No. I will wait for you", he said stubbornly.

"There's no need for that. Thanks anyways but really, go home!"

"But I..."

"Fine. You can wait if you wish to", I resigned getting out of the car.

I went towards the smaller gate. I tried peering in but I couldn't see a thing. It was pitch black.

"Hello?" I called but got an echo instead.

I sighed as I returned to the car wearily. Guess I would have to sleep over at the Chidi's after all.

I woke up with a racing heart as I stared at the reason for me being awake. The alarm Genevieve had set on her phone went off.

I wouldn't exactly say I hated alarms but they really gave me heart attacks. She had used some song as her alarm tone.

I usually preferred vibrations only. At least I wouldn't have to start the day with a racing heart.

Genevieve who was lying closer to the alarm was still asleep. In a bid to wake her up, I picked the phone and put it close to her ear. She turned around a bit and almost knocked down the phone from my hand.

"Alya! What was that for?" She asked on finally opening her eyes.

"Wake up. We are going to be late", I said.

"Late? It's only four in the morning."

"Get up", I said attempting to pull her up. "I don't like being late to school."

"Or you just don't want to be seen coming to school with me. You know that would be a more believable reason."

"Okay. That too but mostly the first reason now get up."

"Okay. I'll get up. But breakfast isn't served until six thirty that's like two and half hours from now."

"Why?"

"I don't know. I think that's the time the chef gets up and my mom says early breakfast isn't advisable", Genevieve said shrugging.

"I'll make the breakfast then."

"Wow. I didn't know you could cook. What will you make?"

"Cook? Who said anything about cooking? I am not cooking. I will just make coffee or tea and we can take it with biscuits or something"

"Yuck. Even a terrible lunch lady at a boarding school wouldn't serve that. I am so not eating that."

"Then we'll grab breakfast at school."

"I am not a boarder..."

"I am pretty sure they wouldn't mind giving you food. There is always extra. They don't even have any clue what to do with the food anymore", I said desperate to convince her.

"Hmm... What is going to be served today?"

"Lemme check", I said picking up my phone. I saw a missed call from my mother. I ignored it as I checked for today's breakfast menu.

"Pancakes and syrup then waffles for those who don't like pancakes. There's also an option of pap and moi-moi for whoever is interested", I said.

"That's interesting. What if I am allergic to all those?"

"That is obviously not possible but if it happened to be, the school could be informed on time that you can not consume some specific foods due to medical conditions. But you are not a boarder and you aren't meant to be getting food in the first place", I said beyond frustrated.

"Okay. I think I will just go with pancakes", she said.

"Thank you", I said breathing out in relief.

Despite Genevieve finally agreeing to eat the school's food, we still somehow managed to get to school by a little after seven.

The parking lot was filled and by filled I mean it was so packed, I couldn't move two steps without either being interrupted by a car or a student.

And worst still, the whole crowd saw me coming down from Genevieve's car!

Forget the whispers I heard as I tried escaping the crowd, people even took pictures as I got down from the car. I really wondered what they would do with those pictures.

And just when I got out of the crowd, I saw Kaira who seemed to have been talking to Ifeanyi but pecked him on seeing me before leaving.
