PUREBLOOD Chapter 31

He looked away for a minute like he was ashamed to be there at that moment.

"Katherine my sister."

"What?" She asked.

Katherine rose as she walked up to him, hatred written all over her face.

"Long time no see." He sighed.

"How dare you show up here, you murderer?"

What was going on?She wondered. The two of them were siblings? And why did she call him a murderer?

Katherine stepped back and turned to look at her. "Wait, you two know each other. I see he kept you in the dark about me. I don't know how you know each other but the sooner you ditch him, the better things will be for you. He's going to abandon you. You can count on it."

"Can you explain what's going on here?" Zuriña asked.

"You see..." Kaiwan was saying.

"What happened? Oh my God..." They all turned to see a guy in his mid twenties running towards Katherine.

"Are you okay?" He asked, cupping Katherine's face while Kaiwan and Zuriña looked on.

"Who the hell started the fire? Did they catch the bastard who did this?"

"I don't know, Linc. I have to go to the station to make my report." Katherine frowned and raised her hands to his face. "Did you run all the way here?"

He didn't look like he ran to Zuriña.

"Yeah, I did. The bus was taking too long."

The detective cleared his throat and walked up to him.

"I take it that you two know each other. I'm Detective Kaiwan Miller."

"Oh, you're already here to investigate the scene?" Linc asked as Kaiwan stretched out his hand for a handshake which Linc took.

"I guess so. Are you her boyfriend?"

"Yeah." He replied

"Do you go to her school?"

"No, we go to different schools."

"Where do you live?" Kaiwan asked and Zuriña could see he was straining Linc's hand.

"Ah, I can...can you let go of my hand?"

"You're not a vampire, right?" He asked and Katherine suddenly struck his face and Zuriña gasped in shock.

"I can't believe this. How dare you suddenly show up in my life again and pretend like you care. You make me sick."

Kaiwan sighed as he looked at the downpour the night. He was happy to have seen his sister doing so well after many years but he guessed his sister's hatred for him hadn't died down.

He dangled the keychain in his hand as Zuriña walked up to the rooftop.

"Does that keychain mean a lot to you?"

"Yeah."

"Tell me what your deal is."

"It'd all happened in the middle of summer five years back after the vampires started appearing The world had changed completely and classes at the police academy had changed along with it. My dad used to run a bed and breakfast shop but that'd bust after vampires started to wreck havoc in the society. And since our family was in a lot of debt, we had to live apart, my parents hustling to find money while my sister and I lived together since I was a college student and my parents figured I would be able to look out for his sister.

My parents had finally returned home to live with us the day, Katherine had made me the keychain and had told me she wanted to become a designer and my parents had sworn to fulfill her dream. I had been particularly glad that day because the family was finally living together after years of living apart.

But that happiness dwindled one very night.

I had woken up feeling pressed and was headed for the restroom when I had heard slurping sounds.

I had carefully tiptoed to my parents room where it'd come from and was shocked beyond words to see my parents draining life from someone.

I had remembered gasping which alerted my parents and I had gone into hiding before I would be found out. I couldn't believe that his parents who'd left them years back had returned to be monsters.

I had gotten careful around them for a couple of days until one fateful night.

I had gone to bed with his sister when he'd heard the back door creak open. I had thought it was a burglar at first until I had tiptoed to see my parents sneaking out in the dead of the night.

Their movement seemed suspicious to me, so I had waited for a couple of minutes before I had followed him.

They'd arrived an abandoned church a couple of minutes later and had walked in. The place have an aura of fear to whoever went there and I had hanged around for a while before I had tiptoed to one of the windows of the church.

The scene that had greeted my eyes was an awfully dreaded one.

My parents and a couple of other people I didn't recognize were draining life from a victim who'd been tied on the altar.

Shocked, I had stumbled back on a stone to find a huge man with red eyes staring down at him. I had sensed danger and head tried to run away but the man had grabbed me before he could and had asked me what I was doing around the church.

There was no way I could lie I'd lost my way around there at that particular time, so I had gone for the lie that'd sounded convincing at that particular time.

"I want to become a vampire." I had told him.
