~Ethan.
Of everything I had thought Aurora to be, dramatic wasn't one of them. I watched her, with a raised brow and an amused expression, run away as though she were fleeing from me.
She was funny, I would give her that, running away as though she had seen a ghost but, even as though she practically fled, her lemony scent continued to linger around me as though she were a breath away from me, like her hands were still wrapped around my neck and her breath still falling on my face.
My groin reacted in protest, and I chewed on my teeth to keep it back in line. The last thing I needed was getting a hard on for a woman I couldn't have…yet.
As Aurora disappeared from my sight, I turned to see Sam, who was now standing behind me and with a wide grin which almost cringed me to death. The little smile I wore fell, and my brows knitted as I looked at him from head to toe.
“Would you prefer your death to be by handing, or would you rather I burn you alive?”
“I would like a hug and two pats on the back.” My frown deepened and his grin fell as he took two steps closer," I came to stop you from making a mistake, my Lord.”
My frown metamorphosed into a scowl, "and what do you mean by that?” I believed I had a clue of what he was talking about, but I preferred to hear from the horse's mouth.
“An affair with the doctor, do you think it is advisable considering all that is going on at the moment?” My frown dropped on hearing what I had expected from Sam.
Honestly speaking, I would not mind an affair with Aurora, not now, not ever. I only had a near me for just a few seconds and my mind, within that few seconds, found the type of rest it had sought for a long time. I would never mind having an affair with Aurora.
“Who said anything about an affair, Sam.” I spat out instead in defense.
Sam shook his head as though he did not believe I was playing dumb.
“The doctor would have kissed you had I not stepped in, my Lord, did you not notice? And worse, I have a feeling you wouldn't have minded it a bit.”
The corner of my lips tipped up in a small smile at the thought of Aurora kissing me. The feel of her lips would be warm and soft against mine and her lips would fit perfectly in mine, I thought to myself as the corners of my lips curved up more.
Remembering that I was still with Sam, I cleared my throat and let my smile fall as Sam corked his head to the side and fixed on me a stern look.
“You really would not have minded if the lady had kissed you?”
Yes, Sam, I would never have minded. I thought to myself as I rolled my eyes at Sam.
“I don't know what you are talking about, Sam and besides, Aurora has no reason to do that which you speak of. “ I was not ready to talk about my unworthy attraction towards Aurora with anyone, especially not with Sam.
“You are attracted to the lady, are you not?” Sam's head was still corked to the side and his stern gaze was still fixed on me.
“Do you have any other things to talk about, or would rather keep asking these meaningless questions?”
“They are not meaningless, my lord. I am just trying to help you understand that having any affair with the doctor would not be good, especially not at this period.”
“I have never thought of such and besides, it would be pointless if I ever did. The doctor is only here for the job, and she will be out of her once she is done with it.”
I bit the inside of my cheek. I don't understand why, but, it was somewhat painful that Sam disapproved of that type of relationship with Aurora, perhaps because he was one of the few people who appreciated me. Clearing my throat, I returned his stern gaze," do you understand now or should I explain further?”
He shrugged, “whatever you say, my Lord. I just want you to be careful. Oh, and least I forget,” he added and dug out his phone from his pocket, “I got a report on the doctor's activities at the hospital today.
Her colleagues spoke well of her. They say she is efficient in her work and that they are confident that she would provide the cure for the viruses. I would forward you the report now”
I chuckled, "That wouldn't be necessary, I mean it's Aurora we are speaking of here, right? I am impressed, not surprised though, Aurora is good at what she does, I know that she is going to do well with us.”
Sam nodded and gulped, and I narrowed my eyes at him.
“You still have something to say.” I had merely appreciated Aurora, I didn't need Sam questioning that too.
“You know we practically forced the doctor down here,” he put his phone in his pocket before continuing," do you think she would really provide the real cure for the plague?”
My eyes widened at Sam's question. Aurora might be a lot of things, but, I was certain that she had no single bad bone in her. She may have changed over the years, I thought, but, not to the extent of providing a fake cure for us.
“Why would think such, Sam? Aurora, is nothing like that, and I am certain that she would be more than happy to provide a real cure for the plague. Besides, as I said earlier, she would only leave once she is done with her work, so even if she provides a fake cure, which I am sure she wouldn't, she would stay here with us until she provides the real one.”
Sam nodded and lowered his eyes. No matter how Aurora had changed, it must not have gotten to the extent of punishing innocent people for what I had done.
Up until Sam mentioned it, I had never thought that Aurora would try to provide a fake cure for the plague. I couldn't help but wonder if she was still angry about the kidnap. I mean, I had literally kidnapped her, and that experience must have been bad both for her and Arne. My heart dipped, and I swore to myself to apologize for that.
The evening sun, which was almost sitting on my face, sent streams of sweat down my face and neck, reminding me that I was still in the outfit I had played with and that I was still dirty. And for the first time, dirt was pleasant.
“Come on, I need to go get cleaned up,” I said to Sam and as we made to leave, a guard ran towards us panting for air.
“May your days be long, my Lord,” the guard greeted with a bow while trying to catch his breath. I nodded while Sam asked what the matter was.
“My Lord, the queen sends for you, she says you should come quickly to her chambers, the king has fallen into a critical condition.”
My eyes widened as I darted my eyes between Sam and the guard.
“The king?” I asked rhetorically in a low voice, but the guard nodded anyway.
Oh, heavens!
