Resisting Him, Chasing Her Chapter 34

The following Tuesday, Rita submitted her resignation letter and moved out of the house she had been living in for three months. Nexion was really really really generous. More generous than an extra helping of pancakes with fresh maple syrup. She had signed the contract that afternoon and gotten a house in the nice part of the city, a company car and a little over than a quarter million dollars as an early advance.

They had asked her when she would be comfortable starting. They had offered for a week after she moved in but Rita wanted to get right into it. She would officially be the personal assistant to the CEO of Nexion on Thursday. A fresh start that included a really nice new place, a handsome advance and a drool worthy car. She was not going to wait a week.

The perks had sounded too good to be true but after a good lookup and a series of cross questions, Rita was certain. There were no strange strings attached and as long as she did everything right, nothing in the contract could go against her. It was perfect. Still a little bit suspicious though. Rita was not superstitious or anything but usually things between the months of May and June did not go her way at all. Ever.

They were always so unpredictable when she was younger and as she grew they became unpredictable and scarring. Maybe. Just maybe the terrible streak was–Nope! She was not going to risk it. Especially not now that everything was going so nicely and the month was just four days from ending. Just to be on the safe side.

Her new place was awesome! It had three bedrooms, excluding the master bedroom, each with its own extra comfy mattress. A to die for living room that would get the snooty harpies back in her hometown absolutely green with envy. She was in love with the bathtub, the shower heads and most important of all, the kitchen.

It took Rita all night to set most of the place up. The moving guys helped as best they could. Bless them and their strong hunky muscles. She had not brought much with her after the initial move. She thrown most of those things out or left them because they had too many memories attached. Memories she did not want to be constantly reminded of anymore.

All, she truly had left were some pieces of furniture she had bought during her first six months of living in Alvas. A few kitchen tools, her beloved expresso maker for example, and other utensils. She did not have that many clothes or shoes. She had gotten rid of most of her stash. If she was not so tired and it was not so late, she would go shopping. New start, new life. New changes, better things

The thought of getting back into her usual style got her excited and nervous at the same time. Feeling normal in her own skin again. Probably, getting back into the game even. Tomorrow, she would go shopping. Meet new people and try to make friends outside of work.

She would tell Matthew and the rest of the bakery staff when she came in on Saturday. The only flaw with her move was that the bakery was much further now. She would worry about that later. Now she needed sleep.

Samuel could not count how many times he had frequented Deseru and travelled to and from five different countries in the span of time that was four days. He chucked it up to going long without a fuck and how tense he had been for so many weeks. He had not been able to shift in all that time and he desperately wanted out of his human skin. The only thing stopping him was how unpredictable he could be in animal form.

Samuel continued to sip the alcohol in his glass while watching the match below from the VIP box. There was way too much buzz about the event, overhype killed it a bit but what really ruined it entirely was the way work managed to creep into his down time. Were money and power the only things these individuals thought about? He left before the match was over. Annoyed and pissed as hell.

Samuel could not decide whether he wanted to work or relax. Relaxing just now had failed and everything else was being handled. Plus, if he had to look at one more sheet of paper he would go off the rails. His current pastime was looking through people’s lives like some peeping Tom or a malicious search engine with no privacy settings.

Rita Anozim and Irina Verushka were the most interesting. Rita for still unknown reasons and Irina because of her many many many mistakes. He would keep her in the company and out of jail until her usefulness had passed. After all, nowadays it was getting increasingly hard to hide seven billion dollars worth of wolfsbane and pure coke. Not to mention, fourteen tons of uranium. These days, a lot of things slipped out and got into places and hands you did not want them in. Her series of assassination attempts on his life barely scratched his patience but she had dug deep into his annoyance. She would have to try harder than that.

Rita Anozim and his harder obsession with the woman’s life was starting to take a turn he did not like. He realized all too late that he had not gotten her out of his system. Not in the slightest. He had gone as far as her family and dating life of the past three years and a half years now. He could probably recite it all by heart. She had a number of rebounds, one on and off and nothing after that.

Her younger sister was married with two kids in New Orleans. Her mother was in the Bahamas with her boyfriends and her father was in prison for theft and attempted femicide. A surprising cocktail of a life. Samuel had not done this much spying since his sisters started dating.

Rita owned a bakery, a little bit down town. Dazzling confections. Max gave a good personal review. A new detail appeared on his tablet screen, promptly added to Rita’s file. Samuel opened it, blankly stared for a few seconds and let out a low growl. The file read:

Rita B. Anozim:

Resigned from Deleze Inc.: 26th June 2017– 9:05am

What the hell was he paying these people for? Why was this reaching him just now? Just a little over than ten hours later! This kind of negligence was not acceptable. Another detail appeared promptly below it.

Employed at Nexion Intl. 26th June 2017– 1:25pm.

Position: Personal Assistant to the CEO, Mrs. Porsha Lupini.

Start date: 28th June 2017–8:00am prompt

Well, he had to give it to her. She was quick. The outcome was predictable just not her speed. Samuel quickly pulled up Nexion. It was a good company, worked in the technology and wine industry. He easily got the sample of Rita’s contract and analyzed it. No wonder, she had moved so quickly. Even if their history and past events in the company did not exist what Nexion was offering was generous.

So he was going to make them an even more generous offer. Samuel picked up his phone from the seat beside him and dialed a number. Before he could place the call, the scent of fresh blood hit his nose like a freight train and the car swerved wildly.
