Time always seemed to fly by unnoticed. I think I deserve commendation for surviving a whole hell week. Just imagine, from day one until now, some of my girl classmates were still giving me those sharp gazes like I deserved them. Excuse me? As far as I could remember, I haven't done anything wrong to them.
But anyway, Friday was a Physical Education day. Since I still don't have the proper PE uniform, I used my old school uniform instead. The school uniform was given to me earlier than the PE uniform.
As usual, I entered the school with my group of friends, whom I considered as one. Tomorrow was supposed to be my day off, but surprise! I'll be facing someone whom I have a lot of resentment towards.
Logan.
Just imagining or thinking about his name gives me a definite chill and annoyed me to the core of my being.
"Should we still walk you to your classroom, girl?" Kyla offered as we reached the Strand Building.
I refused her offer. "I can manage here, you can go ahead to your room."
"Are you sure? I'm telling you, girl, if they mess with you, just give us a call. We'll be your true backup here." I chuckled.
"I'll keep that in mind."
I entered the building and there was an elevator, so I quickly made it to my classroom. The usual setup and atmosphere, where all the girls who have a crush on Andrew give me hostile looks. They can keep fighting over that guy if they want.
I don't live my life based on their miserable routine. If they're not likable enough, then they should stop spreading hate to someone above their level. At least have some character.
I sat down on my chair and table. I put my bag down and took out my notes. I read while thinking about tomorrow. Fridays are supposed to be happy and exciting, not the opposite like Annoying, or maybe even worse.
I'm somewhat scared about what will happen, you know. Logan was like a walking black cat, a bad omen, or whatever that could ruin my day. He was a walking disaster. Suddenly, someone blocked my path. It was Andrew, and he was weirdly smiling from ear to ear. I am totally clueless about this guy.
"Yes?" I asked him because I found his behavior strange.
"Oh, I just thought you looked beautiful today."
Is this what they call "the moves"? Because it's so lame.
"I have a headache from one Lopez already, please, do not add to the equation."
He cackled and replied, "I'm just joking, you're taking things too seriously."
If being this problematic means being serious, then I guess I am problematic.
"Well, I'm not a fan of 'You Only Live Once'." I am being completely honest here.
"I see, see you during the break?"
"As usual."
After Andrew left, those sharp gazes from the girls in the class disappeared. I should remind myself to get a pair of metallic chopsticks. Maybe I could poke them in someone's nosy eyeballs.
Class started and it went better.
THE DAY was finally over and it was time to go home. Of course, Christian and I were picked up and dropped off by our respective escorts. I feel flattered because they're super gentlemen.
I mean, Christian and I aren't dressed up. Of course, we can't style ourselves like city boys. But what sets them apart from the rest is their kindness and gentlemanliness. They're also fun to be with. That's probably what I like about them. Plus, their bond as friends is really solid, and I should be grateful to be a part of their circle of friends.
I arrived home and Alice and I were in our room. She was just looking at me as if waiting. I told her I had something to say.
"What's it about, my friend? Is it about what Aunt mentioned, the part-time job with Mr. Logan? Wow, I thought you were enemies?" she said.
"Shh, stop being so loud. Yes, we're still on bad terms. It might have even gotten worse, and it's his fault as usual!" I said, Annoyed.
"Oh, spill the details!" she said, clearly being a gossip.
"Well, do you remember Monday when I got lost at Gate 3? He happened to be there coincidentally, waiting for me. If it weren't for those perverted bystanders, I wouldn't have gone with that Logan. But I was left with no choice."
She covered her mouth. "You went with him? For what?"
"He said he wanted to make up for what happened at the waterfalls. When I almost drowned, and yeah, I ended up at the entrance of his mansion. There was a fancy feast prepared for us. But he insulted me, and I walked out, accidentally knocking over an expensive vase."
She covered her mouth again. This girl was so exaggerated.
"What? Now what? That vase you broke might be expensive!"
I rolled my eyes. "I just told you that it was an expensive vase. He said it's worth thousands of dollars, and you know that I can't pay such a huge amount for that damn vase! That's why I have to work for them every weekend," I said, feeling the pressure.
"Oh, don't worry! I'll come with you tomorrow. Of course, I won't leave you alone. You probably don't know anything about household chores. You might break their expensive plates."
God forbid that.
The next day, I woke up early. Of course, I asked Alice to come with me. Fortunately, we arrived there on time. Busy people and busy life in the countryside, even this early.
"Are you the one they're talking about, miss?" an older lady in a maid uniform asked?
I nodded. "Yes, that's me."
She smiled. "Oh, so you're really a beautiful girl," she praised me, which slightly embarrassed me.
"Thank you," I said.
"Um, Granny, doesn't it look like I'm okay? Why don't you even notice me? It hurts my feelings," Alice acted out a little drama.
"Oh, right. I thought you were already a helper here, dear. You look just like Gemma."
I tried to hold back my laughter. Just imagine how savage this woman is.
"Is this personal?" Alice asked.
"We're only waiting for one girl, why are there two of you?" Eda asked as we entered the mansion.
"I'm just helping my friend," Alice said.
"Alright, since you'll only be here on Tuesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays, and there are already assigned tasks. Alice here seems reliable in the kitchen. And you, what's your name again?"
"Krystal, ma'am."
"Krystal, just help me with the backyard and the garden. I'm sure you know how to sweep and prune withered leaves, right?"
"Y-Yes, ma'am."
All my life, I've only held gadgets, branded clothes, and bags. I never even imagined myself wiping the floor. I was pampered with a lavish lifestyle that I never thought this day would come.
I went to the backyard to start sweeping the rose garden of the lady of the house. It's amazing here, to think that there's a place like this.
I did my best to remove the fallen leaves from the trees and the roof. But the wind kept blowing them back. It felt good to vent my frustrations.
This is Logan's fault. If I see that guy today, I swear to any inhuman being, I'll probably do something I've never done before.
Isn't living in this godforsaken countryside punishment enough for my spoiled upbringing? And now I'm here, serving the devil himself! Logan was the Lucifer born without a single trace of horns.
"Those leaves might get angry," I heard someone say behind me. I thought it was someone else.
"Andrew? What are you doing here?" I asked him.
"Ah, I live here, right?" he said to me as if it were obvious.
"I see, if that's the case, you can go, and I have a job for now," I said.
"How?" he asked, puzzled, but his amazement seemed more dominant. Is it amazing how my life turned out like this, huh?
"Long story short."
I told him the whole story. He already knows the root cause of my frustration with his brother. He knows how much I hate his brother to the very core.
"That's just how my brother is. He's often moody. But he's actually a good person. He changed because of someone."
And? Why am I being dragged into their misery? I shook my head and tried to focus on my work. I didn't know that Andrew would come up to me and help with my tasks.
"I'll help you, it looks like you're struggling," he said.
"How did you know?" I asked, confused. “But don’t worry about me, Andrew. I can manage,” I told him
"When I say I'll take care of you, I mean it. And it's my choice to help you," he said with a smile.
"Thank you," I said to him while smiling.
It was going well. Perfect, but then an annoying intruder arrived.
