Silk and Steel: Forbidden Desires Chapter 29

Bella and Lily arrived at the clinic, and Bella checked in at the reception desk. After a few minutes of nervous pacing in the waiting room, Bella's name was called, and she was summoned into the doctor's office. Lily stood behind, offering a reassuring smile as Bella entered the room.

Inside, the doctor greeted Bella warmly and gestured for her to sit down.

"How are you feeling today, Bella?" he asked, taking a seat across from her.

Bella fidgeted in her chair, her anxiety growing by the second. "Well, Doctor, this morning wasn't great," she admitted, her voice trembling slightly. "I... I threw up again, probably from all the stress."

The doctor nodded sympathetically. "I understand, Bella. Waiting for test results can be incredibly stressful. But I have some news for you." He glanced at her charts before meeting her eyes. "Your test results have come in."

Bella's heart raced, and she clenched her fists in her lap. "And? What do they say?"

The doctor carefully examined Bella's chart, his expression growing more serious. After a thoughtful pause, he began to speak gently, "Bella, while it's true that stress and hormonal imbalances can explain many of your symptoms, I need to inform you that the results of your blood tests confirm that you are indeed pregnant."

Bella felt as though the ground had shifted beneath her. She couldn't believe what she was hearing. Her world seemed to spin, and she was engulfed in a whirlwind of emotions. Her mind raced with hundreds of questions, but one stood out: Why would Reid lie to her? He had insisted that he couldn't father children. Why would he deceive her like that?

The doctor continued to speak, his voice a distant murmur in Bella's ears as her thoughts consumed her. She had been betrayed by the person she cared deeply for, and it left her reeling. A mix of anger, confusion, and heartache washed over her as she grappled with the revelation.

The doctor, noticing Bella's shocked silence, offered his support. "I understand this is a lot to take in, Bella. I want you to know that I will refer you to a specialist who can provide more detailed information about your pregnancy. They will help guide you through the next steps."

“Are you sure? Maybe it is a test mistake?” Bella asked him in a small voice.

The doctor replied, “We are sure, Bella. It was already a possibility after we performed a pregnancy kit in the clinic, but the blood tests just confirmed our suspicions. I will refer you to Doctor Maggie Smith. She is an excellent specialist. Prior to our consultation, I checked with her and she has a free slot at 11.30, if you want to attend a more specialised consultation. Unless you prefer a different specialist, of course.”

“No, it is OK. Thank you for arranging this. I will see her right away.” Ella replied in a shaken tone.

Bella nodded mechanically, her mind still swirling with disbelief. She mumbled a thank you, her voice quivering as she left the doctor's office. The world outside seemed surreal as she wrestled with the knowledge that her life had taken an unexpected and dramatic turn. The truth about her pregnancy and the deception she had suffered weighed heavily on her heart, and she was left with a multitude of difficult decisions and emotions to face.

The world around Bella seemed to blur as she made her way to the clinic's reception area. Numb and overwhelmed, she approached the desk and inquired about her appointment with Dr. Maggie Smith. The receptionist politely directed her to the first floor, where the specialist was located. Bella mechanically followed the directions, her mind consumed by the shocking revelation that had just rocked her world.

As she was about to go to the first floor, she walked down the hallway towards Dr. Smith's office, her friend Lily spotted her. Concern etched across her face, Lily rushed over to Bella's side, but when she attempted to speak to her, Bella found herself unable to respond. Her body felt heavy, as if the weight of the news bore down on her, and she remained in a catatonic state.

Worried for her friend, Lily gently touched Bella's arm. "Bella, are you okay? What did the doctor say? You're scaring me," Lily whispered, her voice trembling with anxiety.

Bella swallowed hard and finally found her voice. She managed to utter, "Lily, I need a few minutes. I'll tell you everything soon. I promise. For the moment, I have a second consultation. We will talk after I finish."

Lily nodded, still apprehensive, but she knew that Bella needed some time to process whatever had transpired in the doctor's office. She offered a reassuring squeeze of her friend's arm before stepping back to give her the space she needed. Lily couldn't help but wonder what could have caused Bella to be in such a state of shock, but she resolved to support her through whatever challenges lay ahead.

Bella waited for what felt like an eternity in the small, sterile waiting room, her mind swirling with a whirlwind of emotions. Her thoughts raced through countless questions, one above all: how could this happen? It is like she won the fertility lottery. She had one single experience in her life where they used protection. The guy tells her he can’t have children, and she still ends up pregnant. She wanted to laugh hysterically at this ironic situation.

After several minutes, a nurse called her name, and Bella's heart rate quickened. She stood up, her legs unsteady as she followed the nurse to a different part of the clinic. As the minutes passed, her anxiety grew.

Finally, Bella found herself inside the examination room, where a young doctor with a friendly smile greeted her. Dr. Smith introduced herself and, with a look of sympathy, explained that she had already reviewed Bella's recent blood test results. The doctor seemed taken aback by Bella's reaction to the news of her pregnancy, and that only added to the swirling confusion in Bella's mind.

Dr. Smith spoke with gentle reassurance. "Bella, it appears that your blood tests have confirmed your pregnancy. I understand this is quite surprising for you, and I want you to know that we're here to support you in every way we can. We can offer guidance, counselling and discuss your options, if you wish, of course."

Bella's thoughts raced as she tried to process the doctor's words. Pregnant? It felt like a dream—a nightmare, really. She had so many questions and concerns. How would she handle this alone? How had this happened when she thought it was impossible? And what would she tell her family and friends? OMG!!! Her family!!!

Tears welled up in her eyes as she whispered, "I can't believe it... I never thought this could happen." Her voice trembled with a mixture of shock, disbelief, and fear.

“I would suggest performing an ultrasound to find out more about your pregnancy.” Dr. Smith replied to her.

Bella nodded and followed the doctor's instructions, slipping into the hospital gown and lying down on the examination table. As Dr. Maggie prepared the ultrasound machine, Bella felt an unsettling mix of anticipation and anxiety. The room was quiet, save for the soft hum of the equipment.

With a gentle smile, Dr. Maggie started the scan. The monitor beside Bella displayed a grayscale image of her abdomen, and she could see the blurry outline of something inside her. The tension in the room grew palpable as the seconds ticked by.

The doctor's voice broke the silence. "Bella, based on the ultrasound, you're approximately twelve weeks into your pregnancy. Would you like to hear your baby's heartbeat?"

Bella's emotions swirled within her. She hesitated for a moment, overwhelmed by the enormity of the situation. A deep breath helped her find her voice, and she whispered, "Yes, please."

Dr. Maggie adjusted the equipment, and the room filled with the soft, rhythmic thumping of the baby's heart. Bella's eyes welled up with tears at the sound, a heartbeat that felt like a lifeline connecting her to the tiny life growing inside her. It was both a comfort and a reminder that her world had shifted irrevocably.

Tears trickled down Bella's cheeks as she looked at the monitor, watching the image of her growing child. It was a moment of intense emotion, filled with both joy and fear, the realization that this pregnancy was real and that she was responsible for nurturing and protecting this little life.

Dr. Maggie, understanding the weight of the moment, offered Bella a kind smile. "Bella, you don't have to face this alone. There are people who can support you, and we're here to help you through this journey."

Bella nodded; her voice choked with emotion. "Thank you, Doctor. I just... I need some time to think and figure things out."

Dr. Maggie patted Bella's shoulder gently. "Take all the time you need, Bella. We're here whenever you're ready to discuss your options or seek guidance. You're not alone in this."

Bella felt an overwhelming mix of emotions as she left the doctor's office. The sound of her baby's heartbeat echoed in her mind, a constant reminder of the life growing inside her. She had a lot to consider, decisions to make, and a new path to navigate.
