As the days passed, the reality of her pregnancy began to settle in for Bella. She had always been the responsible one, the girl who followed the rules and made her family proud. Now, she found herself facing a situation that seemed like the complete opposite of everything she had known.
Bella's family was traditional and had always placed a strong emphasis on their social standing and reputation. Her parents were well-connected in their community, and maintaining a pristine image was of the utmost importance to them. Bella couldn't help but feel the weight of their expectations on her shoulders. She knew that her pregnancy would bring a great deal of shame to their family, and it terrified her.
Lily had been her rock through this tumultuous time. Bella had confided in her best friend about her pregnancy, and Lily had been nothing but supportive. However, even with Lily's unwavering support, Bella couldn't shake her fears. They had spent countless hours talking and planning, and Bella had started to make peace with the idea of being a single mother. But she was still haunted by the deception of the man who had led her to this situation—Reid.
Reid's actions weighed heavily on Bella's heart. She had felt betrayed by his lie, the assurance that he couldn't father a child when it turned out to be false. She couldn't fathom why he would deceive her in such a way. The memory of their passionate encounter and the way he had kissed her with such raw intensity kept haunting her.
Lily had witnessed Bella's struggle, and as they sat together on the couch one evening, she reached out and took Bella's hand. "You're strong, Bella," she said, trying to reassure her. "We'll get through this together, no matter what. Your family may have certain expectations, but it's your life, your body, and your baby."
Bella couldn't help but feel a tear roll down her cheek. "I know, Lily, but the pressure from my family... I can't bear the thought of the shame I'll bring upon them. Plus, I have no idea about how they would react or what they will try to impose on me."
Lily gave her a sympathetic look. "Your family will have to come to terms with the choices you make, Bella. This is your life, and you have the right to decide what's best for you and your baby. Don't let their expectations imprison you."
Bella nodded, but her worry was far from alleviated. Her thoughts turned to Reid. "And what about Reid?" she asked, her voice quivering. "I haven't told him yet. I don't even know how he'll react. I'm still hurt by the deception, but he is the father of this child. Plus, I need to find a way to contact him, as despite the fact that he is my father’s best friend, I don’t have a way to contact him directly."
Lily tightened her grip on Bella's hand. "You have the right to tell him and discuss your situation. He deserves to know. But whatever his reaction, remember that you're not alone on this journey. You have friends who support you, including me. Regarding the contact, why don't you ask your father’s secretary to give you the number, with the pretence that you want to organise a surprise gift for your father and that for this you need to get in contact with Reid."
“Actually, this might work, you are always so resourceful, Lily, but sometimes your devious thoughts scare me”, Bella replied to her, smiling.
Over the following weeks, Bella worked up the courage to talk to Reid. She knew she couldn't keep him in the dark any longer, and despite her lingering resentment, she wanted him to be a part of their child's life.
As the days passed and Bella's pregnancy progressed, she found herself feeling increasingly vulnerable. This conversation was not easy, the challenges of her situation seemed daunting, and the uncertainty about Reid's role in their child's life weighed on her.
One evening, as she lay in bed, Bella couldn't help but think about her baby's future. She gently caressed her growing belly and whispered, "I promise to give you the best life I can, no matter what challenges we face. I hope you'll understand the choices I've made and that you'll forgive me for any pain I've caused you."
A week had passed since Bella managed to obtain Reid's phone number. She had spent days debating with herself, rehearsing the words she would say, and finally mustered the courage to make the call. With trembling fingers, she dialled his number, and after a few rings, Reid's voice answered at the other end.
"Hello?" he said, with his usual strong and calculated tone.
"Hello Reid, it's Bella," she replied, her voice wavering slightly.
There was a pause, a heartbeat between their words, before Reid responded, "Bella, I... wasn't expecting your call. How did you get this number?"
The awkwardness of the situation hung heavily between them, and Bella knew she had to cut to the chase. "Reid, I need to see you," she said, her voice carrying the weight of her request.
There was a brief silence on the other end, and Reid hesitated before answering. "Why, Bella? We said everything we needed to when we parted ways."
Bella was resolute. She needed to see Reid and talk to him in person. "Reid, it's about what happened the last time we saw each other. I can't explain over the phone, but I need to talk to you about it. It's really important."
Reid huffed heavily, clearly taken aback by her call and request. "Bella, I'm not sure what more there is to discuss. We were both clear about our feelings. I can't see how meeting in person would change that."
Bella's voice trembled, but she was determined. "Please, Reid. It's essential. Just one meeting. I'll make it brief. I promise it won't be a waste of your time."
Reid sighed on the other end. He seemed to be weighing his options. "Fine, Bella. I'll be back in California for a business deal in a week. I can meet with you then. I'll contact you with the details."
Bella felt a mix of emotions. It wasn't a warm invitation, but it was a glimmer of hope. "Thank you, Reid. I appreciate it," she replied, relieved that he had agreed.
“Good bye Bella” he replied shortly.
With that, Reid hung up, leaving Bella feeling both anxious and uncertain about their upcoming meeting. She knew that this encounter would be a pivotal moment in her life, and she couldn't predict how it would unfold.
Over the next week, Bella couldn't help but obsess over their impending meeting. Her days were filled with a mix of anticipation, anxiety, and the daunting task of preparing herself for the conversation ahead. She wanted to keep her emotions in check, to stand her ground, and to ensure that her voice was heard.
When the day finally arrived, Bella was a bundle of nerves. He had chosen a cafe near the beach for their meeting. She arrived early, her heart pounding in her chest as she watched the waves crash against the shore.
As she waited, her mind raced, replaying the memories of their passionate night together and the hurtful goodbye that had followed. She knew that Reid had been dishonest about his fertility, but she still couldn't fathom the reason behind his deception. Bella had to confront him and demand the truth.
Finally, Reid's figure appeared on the horizon, walking towards her with a steady gait. He looked just as imposing and magnetic as ever, and the sight of him stirred up a whirlwind of emotions within Bella.
When Reid reached the cafe and sat across from her, a tense silence settled between them. The awkwardness of their meeting was palpable.
Bella took a deep breath and began, "Reid, thank you for agreeing to meet with me."
Reid nodded; his expression guarded. "You said it was important. So, what is it you want to talk about?" he answered, going directly for the reason of their meeting.
Bella felt a lump in her throat as she looked into his eyes. If he chose to be direct, she would try to be the same.
"Reid, I need to know the truth. Why did you lie about your fertility? Why did you tell me that you couldn't have children?"
