Chapter Eleven
My eyes saw the sun as it rose high up in the sky little by little. Feeling its light reaching far and far away. It has been ten minutes since Shirley had left me in my room for her work. I was waiting for Mike's arrival. He did not live on the school grounds, so he was coming here from his home, which might take some time. Last message he sent me was that he was almost here.
And he was ...
I saw from my window as a black car pulled up in the school parking lot. My eager eyes tried to see who was inside the car but could not because the mirrors were tinted. For a second, I started to doubt that even if it was his car. However, it was not long before my doubt was cleared. As soon as the car was parked into a free spot, it's door opened. And as expected, and as I hoped, Mike stepped out of the car.
My heart gave out as soon as I saw him. He looked smoking. I blushed as I realised what I just called him in my mind. But there was no other way to describe his looks. He was wearing a black jeans with white shirt and a leather jacket on. A clear going - to - bar - and - having - fun - sort - of - look. Although I have never gone to a bar myself, I have seen people on television.
I did not realise that I was staring at him until Mike raised his head and his gaze met mine. In nanoseconds, I flushed so badly that I was pretty sure he could see it through this far. He raised his hand and waved. I did the same thing. For some reason, his eyes darted lower before they snapped up to meet my eyes, and then he smirked.
I felt self conscious watching him smirk at me that I backed up from the window, getting away from his sight. It was as if he saw something that was ridiculous. I glanced down to see if something was wrong.
No. Nothing. There were no stains or anything that would gain a smirk from him. Maybe my cleavage was showing a little too much? But it was hardly even revealing my collar bone than my showing my ... maybe it was just another reaction of him. Was I thinking too much?
I stepped forward and peered out of the window to find Mike. He was not there. He was not in the parking lot. Most probably, he was on his way to the main gate of our dorm room. I gauged the distance between his car and my window. It was not too far but it was also not too close. Could he really see that clearly from there? If I could see him smirk then maybe ...
My whole body jerked at a sudden knock on the front door. When I realised who would be out the door, I let out a sigh. Walking over to the door, I opened it. He was there. Standing tall, looking as handsome as he does. Did I ever mention how good looking he was?
I hardly tried to notice if a guy was handsome or not, it wasn't good for me. After all, I was always scared that my family, especially my brother would find out that I found a guy cute and they will come to my school to beat me up. But when curiosity got the best of me, I noticed some guys and I could only describe them as average looking. Most of them had the same normal look about them, but Mike was different.
His features were more sharp and edgy. There was something about him that made him look different from other guys I have seen. He had more muscles or maybe he was more bulgier than other guys. Whatever it was, it made him stand out amongst other guys. I only noticed muscles and looks because Shirley elaborated them. She told me about everything she finds attractive in a guy, in his physique and what she notices the most when she checks out a guy. In her case, it was a sharp jaw. Mike certainly had a sharp jaw, maybe that's why Shirley and him ...
"Uhmm ... '' Mike cleared his throat, bringing my attention back to his face. I didn't even realise that I was staring at his jaw. Suddenly, I felt my cheeks warming.
"If you want to check me out that badly then at least, please invite me in first." Mike said, rubbing his neck. His directness sent me straight into a pond of embarrassment, my nervousness jumping up in full force.
I glanced everywhere but at his face. Backing up while still facing him, I stuttered. "Yeah, yeah ... umm ... sure. I wasn't ..." I cleared my throat, "Yeah, I wasn't checking you out. I was just -"
" - you were just staring at my features." He finished my sentence for me. Mortifying me on another level. Staring at his features and checking him out, both were the same thing. I guess. Anyway, did he just pull my leg? God, I was messing this up. I wish I had more experience with guys so I know what to say to them. Or more so, how to behave around them? Should I say something back to him? No, I should just try to be normal with him. Like I was around Shirley. That was how I needed to behave.
"Are you going to stare down on the ground on our entire date?" Mike said, making me meet, raise my eyes from the ground and meet his eyes. His voice was teasing but I heard a very subtle bite in his tone. Just like the last time we met at his party. Or maybe, I was imagining things.
Something flickered in his eyes. "I don't want you to look at the ground while I'm around you. Instead, look at me." He said. Then leaning in closer, he touched my cheek while his eyes were still gazing into it. "You have such beautiful eyes. I wish I could stare at them forever." He said and I realised that he just complimented my eyes. Warmth flooded throughout my whole body.
A shyness took over me and I could not help lower my eyes to the ground. It was on instinct. I did not want him to know what his compliment did to me. My stomach fluttered like there were butterflies inside it. It felt like my heart had swelled and it ached inside my heart, where it did.
He put his hand beneath my chin and raised my head. His head was lowered as he looked me in the eye. "Do you always get this shy over a single compliment?" He asked. Without waiting for me to answer his question, he continued. "Because if it is the case, then I am so looking forward to seeing you this way the entire day." He whispered with a cocky smirk playing on his lips.
And then he extended his hand to me, silently asking for me to take it. Without saying anything, I slid my own small hand into his bigger one and let him lead me out of my room.
