Sortie, Angel of Death Chapter 1

Thunder rumbled in the far distance as the heat of the day receded from the sun’s absence. The empty woods hiding them from the world around, covering anyone from unwanted eyes. Only light coming through the night is from the flames dancing in a fireplace inside a lonely cabin. The stars above just watched in silence as their leader being absent to help the darkness invade. Silence rang in the dark forest as the stage takes place between two females. One being of young age kneeling before an elder woman which spoke softly, a mere whisper.

“Every myth is based off true events that took place long ago. At the center of these events all are beings of mystery so one would need to start at the beginning. One being who created all things living and nonliving through out the universe which goes by different names and are know in different forms. However, making some creatures advance and others slower; the weakest of the universe was placed far from the others on a planet that became known as Earth. The human race was far from alone as the years turned into centuries. For the planet which had the weakest forms on it had been home to the exiled of all other creations for the universe. The outlaws became either gods or monsters from the nightmares to the humans. The outlaws became powerful from living in the earth atmosphere.

The “gods” cursed the “monsters” by using old magic, turning them into true monsters with limited abilities. The tables turned making the “gods” turn into monsters themselves making the once honored into blood driven beast. The humans started to call them by different names, which brought light to each section of beast.

The cursed monsters became as beast, as the years grew their mental state lowered. The humans called them Basilisk, Dragons, Cyclopes, Kraken, Harpy, Lake Monsters (Loch), Manticore, Chupacabra, Griffin, Chimera, Hydra, Sphinx, and even Medusa. However, the “gods” told them to hunt them down as they themselves started to turn into rabid beast in the darkness of their souls. They cried out for more blood with every that was slain. When there was fewer monsters left they turned to the blood of man. They wanted the blood to keep them alive for the ancient magic called for payment. The magic called for the debt to be paid as the monsters where being killed it came back for the beings that called upon it.

Humans without knowing who these new monsters were came up with names for them. Northern gods turned into a beast who’s bite or scratch turned others into similar beast. The name that the humans called them was Lycanthrope, the affected became known as Werewolves. Lycanthrope can change at will and are driven to feed of raw flesh by night in a large wolf form. Werewolves can only change by the full moon becoming fully a humanoid wolf in appearance and mental shape. Other Northern gods became known as Vampires as they feed on the blood of the living. However, the vampires could go in the sun with mild burns, appeared human other then at night their teeth would change in length. Over time the vampires learned they could change others with killing them before draining their blood completely while leaving a few drops of their own with them. These new vampires killed on instinct with no mental power of their own. They were mindless bots for their masters. The Master Vampires called them in with hordes to have their ways. While the Vampires and Lycanthrope fought over the north they traveled the world to grow their numbers. With the saliva of the werewolf and the hordes they could or more accurately did kill each other in waves keeping the numbers low.

The gods of water became Mermaids dragging sailors to their death before ripping flesh off the bones. Over the centuries Mermaid joined forces with the air gods which turned into Sirens, joining powers to eat the fresh kill of men. Sirens need the water’s power to drown their prey while the Mermaids needed the siren’s voices to lure the sailors in. This joining came together making all creatures wary of the oceans travel. So the old magic was angered by the joining and banished mermaids to flip only in the salt of the darkest water. While clipping the wings of sirens before leaving them to be to burn on sharp rocks. Some say both died out, while others report seeing them still. One thing is for sure humans no longer fear crossing the seas.

Other gods turned into Satyrs, Minotaurs, Nymphs, and Centaurs. These were gods that watched without helping or stopping the others. The ancient magic’s curse showed their main qualities and banished them from being able to live next to the humans. Pushing them to exile while creating a lust for the iron rich blood of mankind, unable to quench their thirst even a drop for they could not put a hand on humans they started destroying themselves from within. Stories are told on the tale of the wind saying where they went or what happened to them. One may never know for sure though, one thing that was sure the old magic was angered but their lukewarm view on life.

The oracles, witches and seers, that helped and talked for the gods desired to hid trying to save themselves from the gruesome fate of the others. These acts only angered the ancient magic so it made them a different type of evil. Cursing the oracles to live a life of the bringers of death. Only rumors come from what they look like and every culture has a different name for them. While the witches and seers were stripped of beauty in any kind, making them trolls. Ancient magic grew annoyed with their coward behavior while using mass amounts of magic trying to change their forms into beauty, so the old magic cut the magic into smaller doses.” The old woman said while rocking in her wooden chair, looking out to the forest ahead with a forlorn look. A young woman kneeling in front of her, looking up at the old women covered in blood, mud, and tears. “Now deary, I tell you the history for you to understand. However, I cannot tell you much other then what I have been informed.”

“I am sorry, but how will this help me? I am in need of strength, speed with the wind always on my side, I need to be able to fight and avenge what was taken from me. I need to be able to defeat these abominations that have been able to thrive on a place that is meant to be for the living humans. I need to kill every last one of them, for their time needs to come to a closing;” yelled the brunette lady with her green eyes watering with the grief of her life. “I need to kill the old magic to end the source of the horrifying state of things.”

The old woman smiled softly, “Oh my dear, that cannot possibly happen for the old magic lives in the very soil that makes up the ground. My darling child, listen carefully I know a way to give you what you need to defeat them. However, by making you able to defeat each kind I will have to destroy your body as it is now and make you into one of them. One of the strongest, with the most benefits. Lycanthrope or Vampire would give you the most freedoms for traveling.”

Eyelids closed over the green iris’ of the young woman, before too long she opened them as she spoke softly. “Vampire.” The old woman’s eyes twinkled as her body wrapped in flames of fire magic. Before the young lady could fall unconscious the old woman whispered, “trust your familiar, trust your abilities, trust your revenge, lastly feed your thirst with the magical blood, little Sortie.” Blackness consumed the young lady mentally, physically, and emotionally.
