Sortie, Angel of Death Chapter 18

Willow amplified C. J.’s power to find our new target. According to the nymph’s magic their were a group of vampires holding camp with trolls for protection on the very north tip of the property. Spending the whole day trekking through woods and swamps we finally got near the site. Being the smallest Willow went to get intel leaving us in the knee deep wetland. When the third moon rises the forest will be deathly silent causing the sweet sound of the birds seem even sweeter.

“The vampires are really that scared of the full moons?” C. J. questioned as we watched a snake reach a low branch.

“For vampires who have abnormal strengths all nights, yes. The full moons drain vampire’s magic to a human state. One who takes that lightly tend to be killed with in a first moon,” I answer halfheartedly.

“Then why are you not effected by the full moons?” Turning his head he tried to look into my eyes.

“I am.”

“How so?”

“I am weaker, slower, and my magic is not steady so I try not to use it.” His eyes widen as I explain. “I am not a normal vampire, nor am I of the original set.”

“Right, but…”

“I am naturally stronger then supers because I was made as a weapon of death for death bringers.”

“I understand but…”

“If I were to go head to head with an original blood sucker I could defeat them with in seconds. Same as a pack of mutt fulled wolves.”

“But the other night you looked close to death.”

“Of course, you would too if one challenged a massive pack on a full night.”

“Massive?”

“Yes, seemed they kept multiplying on site. Originally I only heard 30 ish heart beats but the crazy thing was that when I took care of 28 of them others left and more were still there.”

“Why did you not call for help?”

“Did not need help I took care of the pack. The ones that ran we removed last night.”

“So, will I have a hard time fighting vampires on average?”

“No more then a normal wolf.”

“What about on the new moons?”

“You will be hunted.”

“Will I be fine?”

“Of course, I will be there.”

“So, if you are not or are busy I will have problems?”

“Probably not, you are two supers in one. Any ways you should focus on the now.”

“Do you like this style of life?”

“I prefer full moons, make things more fun;” I say with a wink to which C. J. shook his head and remained silent. Before the last rays of sun dropped Willow appeared.

“I found five trolls and six vampires. I believe they are of the same horde of the four the other night. The magic to keep out wolves activate as soon as the sun sleeps,” Willow’s word lite a fire in me.

“We need to move then,” I look at C. J. as I think of the next movement. “I think you need to be a nymph for tonight. Let us move out.” I started running with Willow next to me. When the camp came to sight the sun’s last ray began to dim. I grabbed C. J.’s wrist and flung him to the camp just as the sun closed it’s eyes. C. J. stood up quickly running to a patch of trees before he disappeared into them. Willow kept running until she was hidden inside as well. I stayed put until the moon began to brighten the environment. Beginning to take small steps to the barrier as life began to spark at the camp. Trolls kept the music loud and the vampires stayed far from the fire. Taking the time to ensure the safety of my companions before making any movements.

“Look there is a vampire,” a voice rang out. All eyes looked as I stood just out of the barrier.

“Well should we bring her in,” the voice was gravel that spoke.

“She is not one of ours,” a smooth baritone replied.

“Alright then she can be eaten,” another course voice announced.

“That would be a shame if I die,” speaking as I cross the barrier.

“How?” a troll exclaimed.

“I thought you said we would be protected!” a large vampire said taking to his feet.

“Well, I am no normal super;” my grin showed the malice in my heart.

“Kill her,” the head of the trolls screamed.

“I do not think any of you will be able too,” I cooed.

“Attack,” the tallest vampire proclaimed. I easily dodged their weak attempts of a hit. When the last one started panting for the over use of their own strengths I caught movement from C. J.’s direction. The dark wolf slowly approached with foam dripping from his mouth. Willow jumped tackling a smaller vampire while I fought with the sword wielding leader. ‘Man, I am thankful for my silver stakes.’

“Willow behind you,” I yelled causing the vampire in front of me to look around. I took this chance to plunge the wooden stake from my sleeve through his heart. Taking the sword from his cold grip. “Cedar, stop playing with your food.” My response came as a happy howl before a heavy thud was sounded to my right. The four I had been fighting laid on the ground with holes their each of the hearts. Willow was gnawing on a neck she ripped out from under the head of her vampire. Cedar’s munching sounds made it clear his screaming vampire was being eaten alive. I looked at the trolls who was trying to cast protection spells to block me from closing in on them. “Willow bag the blood for later,” I declared keeping my eyes on the trolls movements.

Willow moved about quickly keeping the alive one alone for last. The spells that the trolls kept casting seemed to hinder my vampire magic causing my mouth to hurt were my teeth wanted to prolong. I started stalking towards them as they kept the pace backwards. When the screaming stopped Willow and Cedar joined my side as I continued forward. The weight of my body kept growing on the spells that were trying to stop me. The horror in their eyes gleamed as they continued different spells. One of the trolls changed focus to Cedar only becoming aware of this when the dumb wolf turned back.

“Damn it, you witch! What are you doing to me?” C. J. screamed before running to the troll before him. Slamming back to the ground a foot before he could reach her.

“C. J. call Jame NOW!” I commanded. With in a second a bright white light absorbed the area before the shiny long gold hair whipped around the tan skinned nymph that appeared. The movements of his fight felt like a hypnotic dance. The grace, elegance that poured out of him moving even the fallen leafs to a melody. Before they could cast another spell my mind came up with a solution. “Jame, I need you to sing.”

The song that flowed through the earth came pounding through every cell of my being. Melody was sweet and harmonious of how nature calls all the souls of the mischievous to do it’s bidding. He moved his arms in strange measures as his hair flew around him making him appear with an aura. The sway of nature called to his touch and voice. Turning his clear eyes shown difference colors one of earth the other of water. I kept my eyes on his when he smiled a full pointed tooth grin causing shivers dance on my spine.

“Jame, I would like to ask your help to remove their life.” He nodded to my request before changing the tune towards a dark, murderous feel. The skies darken as his skin started to glow. The earth seemed to tremble as his hands grew long nails sharp as daggers. Dancing with his words his arms sliced through removing the heads off all the trolls at once. Being in the barrier cause a massive shudder of the ground before the magic disappeared. Jame still sang while animals of the night came to take the trolls head back to their homes. When his words stopped he tilted his head with a lop sided smile.

“Shorty, it was a pleasure to finally meet you,” the voice sounded as a song as his eye started to fade to green.

“Nice to finally see what a nymph looks like,” smiling out the words.

“Well, I will always be happy to help you when need. I am in debt to you for many things. The wolf has pledged you to be his alpha. The man acknowledges you as the leader. I view you as the colossus, so we all agree to listen and be at your service. Now please be comfortable,” he says while growing a weaved chair out of saplings and ferns. “The wolf is in an urgent mood to eat, please excuse me.” Turning away he quickly formed the wolf in a jump towards the scattered bodies.

“Willow,” I whisper; “I think we need to find more information about Nymphs.”

“Agreed, I always was told they are monsters. Yet that was another form of chilling.”

“Do you think they are more powerful then I am?”

“I am not sure. However, it is clear that the power from that kid is 75 % nymph.”

“I was thinking the same.”

“I am thankful you are his leader not I.”

“You really are a jerk Willow.”

“Just honest.”
