The Alpha's Lantern Mate Chapter 15

Scarlett

The locker room fell silent as I arrived there, everyone looked at me as I’d grown two heads. For a moment, I wanted to go back to the bathroom if there was something wrong with my face though it seemed like they were talking about something very important and didn't want me to eavesdrop.

Clearing my throat, I assigned a polite smile. “Um, you guys can carry on your conversation, I’m leaving,” I didn’t meet Klaus’s eyes and I wanted to avoid talking to Jenna for a while.

She seemed sweet, friendly, and a gorgeous teenager. I felt guilty when the memories of the past floated in my mind and I wanted to kill her due to jealousy. She was Klaus’s sister but I didn't know that.

“Let me walk you to your house, Letty,” Marcus offered as kind as he was and he always waited for me to take my shower and walk me back home. I liked his company and never denied any of his offers.

“You will have to accompany me, Marcus, so I’m afraid you might not walk your friend to her home,” Klaus proclaimed in a stern voice, emphasizing the word friend.

Jenna slapped his brother’s arm, ambling forward to reach me. She had a smile on her face that hid something though it wasn’t mischievous, something in me wanted to find out the reason behind that but unperturbed me didn’t care enough.

“You guys go together, I’ll give Scarlett company to home and I’m sure that she likes my company more than any of yours,” Jenna said smugly, wriggling her brows in hoax.

Marus chuckled and Klaus frowned, I wondered if Klaus ever smiled. “I bet she likes me more than you,” Marcus commented, sending a wink my way. Terrible flirt. I couldn’t help but giggle at his funny wink.

“We just had one person here to compare in the first place. I’m sure that your Alpha is so busy flirting with every girl he finds that he completely has forgotten about everything and everyone else,” my demeanor and intonations changed as I spoke, precisely recalling the familiar pain caused due to his ignorance.

Maybe someday I would find enough strength to reject my jerk of a mate. I didn’t deserve his rudeness and insensibility.

Jenna and Marcus looked in Klaus’s direction, anticipating a retort from him for my taunt. His brown eyes met my aqua blue orbs and I could feel the sensations of sharp pain that his eyes exuded, unlike the mystery that usually was present in those eyes.

“I care about my people and I’m not a flirt,” the words escaped his mouth, his gaze fixated on me. Honesty oozed from his eyes but I couldn’t trust him, it might be just a trap to mock me. His parted lips awakened the desires in me and I had to avert my eyes from him before the locker room would be filled with the scent of my arousal.

“You indeed are though I might like to add a horrible liar, too,” replying to him, I peered at Jenna and said, “thank you for your kindness, Jenna. It was a pleasure to make your acquaintance. Forgive me but I’d go by myself today and I really enjoyed your company besides some misunderstandings, my apology for that.”

She pulled me in a hug, and Marcus scowled at her. “You never have to apologize for saying what you feel. I’m sure that you deserved better treatment by your mate.” She sympathized with me which I hated but she wasn’t aware of it so I avoided making it an issue. “I hope to hang out with you in the evening, there is a club opening in the town and I just graduated so let’s have a party tonight.”

It’s been a long time since I had some fun and considering my situation, I needed to blow off the steam and the club was a cool place to forget your messy life and live for a while so I nodded wearily, the tiredness of practice impending on me. “I would love to join, see you in the evening, then.”

“Yeah, see you soon. Bye,” she waved me off and I sauntered back to the house.

The smell of freshly baked cookies and croissants filled my nostrils as I entered the house. Rachel welcomed me with a big smile on her face, she was preparing for evening's breakfast. “The lunch is ready, let me serve it for you,” Aunt Rachel said, carrying a cookie to the dining table.

She extended her hand to offer me a cookie which I meekly accepted. “Mmm…” I moaned as the chocolate melted in my mouth. “You’re the best cook in the world, Aunt Rachel,” I appreciated her cooking skills.

She narrowed her eyes at me and snatched the plate of food that she prepared for me. “You make me feel old,” she dramatically complained, as usual, not liking being called Aunt besides having a daughter who was somewhat similar to my age.

I made puppy eyes and pouted, “I’m sorry, Rachel. I’m starving.”

“Hmm, better. Eat more since you’re paired up with the Alpha, you’ll need to have more strength and the meat will give you more muscles,” she advised me, serving me more meat and filling my glass with the water.

“I defeated your Alpha today twice so it should be crystal clear that I have the upper hand in that,” I said, taking a bite of honey soy chicken drumsticks.

Rachel sat next to me, glaring at me with pity. “I don’t doubt your capability as a pack trainer or fighter but you haven’t shifted yet and you don’t feel any wolf inside you so I’m just a bit concerned for you,” her words made sense as she stated the facts.

I never felt a voice in my head unlike other werewolves who could chat with their wolves and I wondered what it felt like. I even doubted if I had a wolf, being a lantern wasn’t easy but it didn’t affect my powers.

“I’m a powerful werewolf, Rachel. Should you not have any worry about me, rest assured.” I uttered with a mouthful of her delicious food.

After finishing my food, I took a nap while Sasha was at her school. Thankfully, I had finished my studies before I came here. Otherwise, schooling in a new pack would surely have given me a hard time.

I had this very simple and boring routine now, I would get up in the morning for training and in the afternoon, after taking lunch, I would take a nap and wake up in the evening to watch shows with Sasha.

But this evening I had a change of plan. Sipping my coffee, I told Rachel about Jenna’s hangout offer and she was happy that I was finally choosing to go out and explore the places. She even insisted on doing my makeup herself.

“You’re looking so beautiful and hot,” Rachel felt satisfied with whatever she did with my face and hair. I looked at my shadow in the mirror, she had done a light makeup for which I was so grateful. She had curled my hair slightly from the ends, so far more than good.

“Thank you, Rachel. You’re the best,” I thanked her, yanking my purse and phone.

She hugged me before whispering in my ears, “if you find your mate there, don’t forget to use protection.”

I felt blood rushing over my cheeks, I rolled my eyes at her overexcitement. Sasha dashed towards me and screamed, “you look gorgeous, Letty. I wish I could come with you, too,” Sasha mumbled glumly, lowering her head.

“You’ll be allowed to clubbing after eighteen, too, honey,” Rachel comforted her daughter and I felt a bit guilty for not being able to take Sasha with me. “And you should leave now, sweetie,” Rachel said, looking my way.

I smiled and waved them goodbye before stepping outside to only find him standing in a crisp suit outside of a Porsche, leaning against the door of his car.
