Klaus
“You shouldn’t have shunned me out before trying to kill us,” Todd growled, taking the control of my body and pushing me back to my mind where he lived.
I could only feel the pain in my chest as doctor Asher stitched my wound up, my eyes weren’t opened yet but I had heard all the voices in my unconscious state. Though my body was losing warmth, when I heard her saying I love you via mind-link, I felt goosebumps and regretted my actions as I saw how badly I had affected my mate.
“Just like I’m your part, our mate is also a part of you and everything that we do will affect our mate. She is enduring vast pain due to your ridiculous action, you arsehole,” Todd reprimanded me and started healing me with his powers.
“I’m sorry, okay?” I retorted to him. I knew what I did was wrong but at that time, I was feeling so lonely and broken that instead of asking for help from my mate, I attempted suicide.
My wolf whimpered loudly, pouting his mouth like a puppy. He always seemed cute while doing those tantrums. “I’m just a part of you, whatever you feel, I feel, too. How could you do that to both of us? You always shun me whenever you freak out. If you wouldn’t have shunned me, you wouldn’t have been suffering through this and our mate wouldn’t have to slice her wrist to awaken me and save us.”
“I’m sorry, Todd. I don’t know how to explain what I was feeling then but now, I promise you that I’ll handle everything maturely and will never hurt our mate,” I promised him, accepting my mistakes.
While giving her blood to me, she had passed out and Layla was taking care of her. I could hear her voice talking to Scarlett, I heard how my mom fought with her when I needed a doctor. I wish my family could ever understand me.
“I’m letting you take control now as you’re more than healed but please, don’t hurt our mate. Your memories have snapped, she knows everything and so do you,” Todd warned me before taking his place and I opened my eyes slowly.
“Klaus,” Asher sighed heavily before checking my pulses. “Thanks to Todd who woke up at the right time,” he said, shaking his head.
I nodded shortly, feeling too weak to raise from the bed. Doctor Asher slapped my arm harshly and I screamed, “ouch! I just woke up, Asher.”
“You fu-king piece of shit! How could you do that to us?” His eyes gleamed as he uttered.
Muffling my lips, I muttered sorry. I was feeling too guilty to say anything, besides an apology I had nothing to offer.
“Scarlett,” I muttered her name as I saw her lying on the bed beside me. Her body was so white perhaps due to the loss of blood. I pointed to her and asked, “she…” I stuttered when I couldn’t finish my words.
An old lady came forward wearing gloves and a mask like Asher whom I assumed to be Layla. “She has suffered through a lot. I beg you to take care of yourself for her, she needs you.” Her voice had a motherly affection and worry for Scarlett.
I nodded slightly, offering a small tight-lipped smile to her. “I’m sorry…I…I didn’t want to marry someone else. I love Scarlett and my family is forcing me to marry…” I sighed in frustration as I remembered how my mother betrayed me and I was so helpless.
“It’s not your mistake but if you end your life, remember that it’ll be your mistake. Scarlett loves you, it’ll break her completely if she loses you so live for her,” Layla said while staring at Scarlett and wiping her tears off.
Avoiding saying anything, I just nodded and tried to get up from the bed so I could walk to Scarlett but Asher narrowed his eyes at me and stopped me from doing so.
“Please…” I pleaded with the doe-eyes and he rolled his eyes before helping me to reach her.
“She lost her sister a month ago and she was so depressed that she had stopped coming out of her room so I had to force her parents to send her away from the pack because the memories were being a burden for her,” Layla began as I started stroking her hair and placed a kiss on her forehead.
She continued, “Scarlett seems so strong physically and emotionally but she also has a heart that gets hurt and people take that for granted. Strong people are so vulnerable, they need someone who can understand them and be with them in their worst times. She loves deeply and truly, once she starts caring for someone, she’ll do anything for them. She pretends to be tough from the outside but from inside, she is soft-hearted.”
I couldn’t agree more with Layla’s words, she was indeed right about my mate. As long as I had known her, she was exactly like Layla described.
“Wake up, my mate. I have come back for you,” I mind-linked her but she didn’t reply.
My heart sank at the thought of losing her due to my stupidity. “Is she alright?” I asked, being impatient. “When will she wake up?”
“She should wake up late to make you realize how much pain she felt when you were lying there lifelessly and she was shedding tears for a moron like you,” Asher retorted with sarcasm. “But she is fine. She lost consciousness because of the pain she was feeling by seeing you fighting for life and the pain she shared with you and the pain the blood loss caused her so she was enduring three pain at a time which nobody can but she did it for you.”
“Thank you, guys, for taking care of my mate,” I said, looking at my mate’s beautiful face and wondering when I would see her mesmerizing eyes and gorgeous smile again.
Planting a deep kiss on the back of her hand, I prayed to the Moon Goddess for the speedy recovery of my mate.
“Klaus, my son,” my mother screamed standing at the door frame, and then ran to me. “Why did you do that, honey? I did my best to save you from dying and you…you tried to kill yourself,” she started blaming me, shaking my shoulders.
Removing her hands from my shoulders, I stared into her eyes coldly. “You betrayed me, manipulated me, and expected me to compromise my happiness. A mother puts her trust in her child, she doesn’t make her child feel alone, she fights for her child’s happiness,” I barked at her, not feeling guilty for the raised tone of my voice and rudeness.
"We should take our leave for a while, Doctor Asher," Layla suggested and walked out of the room before kissing Scarlett's forehead affectionately. Asher followed her out, too, leaving us alone.
"I'm a mother, I know what's right and wrong for my child!. You would never be able to win against the Alpha King, only Lycans can afford a war against the Alpha Harold," my mum still defended herself, neglecting the consequences of her lack of support and faith in me.
Heaving a hassled sigh, I crossed my arms. "Please, leave me alone if you can't trust me. I'll marry whoever you want me to for your sake but I'll have my own ways to get what I want."
Todd and I were already up to something that will make us get our mate and no one would be able to separate us.
Her eyes flashed with pain and I felt hurt, too, but she deceived me when I had expected her to support me and trust me.
My mom had hurt me, too. Why should I be the only one always taking care of everyone and not getting hurt because of me? Shouldn't they also care about me?
"I'm sorry, Klaus. I wish I could help you out with this situation but your grandfather had made a mistake that we can't undo," my mom uttered in a low voice.
I was too furious to care about anyone else rather than my mate who was lying on the stretcher because of me. I had to understand that she was my soulmate and I had the responsibility for her.
“You jerk,” her sweet yet annoyed face had me turn my face to hers. I hastened my steps towards her to hug her but what she did next was hilarious. I stood dumbstruck there while her hand collided with my cheek. “How dare you!”
Ignoring her feisty action, I snuggled into her neck, inhaling her chocolate and berry scent that brought calm to me, and caressed her shoulders. “I’m sorry,” whispering into her ear, I kissed her hair.
“Perhaps you don’t need me,” my mom said sadly and left the room.
Everything will fall back into its place but first, let me take care of the person who put her life in danger for me.
