Chapter 1
"Please can you show me your school certificate? Where's your school certificate? "I'm sure you must have a school certificate, pls let us take a look at it before proceeding to the next step".
Those words kept repeating into my ears as I walked out of the company heading to another one in search of a job.
What Can I say? My life crumbled down after the very death of my parents. Back then I could barely cater for myself before Alexander Black came to rescue me from poverty. He adopted me and made me marry his granddaughter (Raven) who was about to fall victim to marrying an old Man who could die at any moment because of his wealth.
Apart from the fact that I was impoverished Alexander Black saw me as the perfect man for his granddaughter who couldn't resist me since she had no choice. So I got married to her two days ago and I've already been the talk of the town. Everybody was present at the wedding, including the members of the Black family, their friends, and guests.
The people who came to the wedding all made mockery of me after learning the truth from Katherine, who bad mouth me to them all because she doesn't want me to marry her granddaughter. They all laughed at me knowing the fact that I was a destitute man who wasn't fit to become their grandson-in-law. It hurts badly. Everything Hurts, which is the reason why I'm trying to prove to everyone that I can be useful and I can take care of Raven.
If only I had had the chance to finish school before my parent's death, it would have been better. I'm sure that I wouldn't have been Rejected by the three companies like that. I just feel so bad and wish my dream wouldn't have to be crushed by the death of my parents.
I would have worked with the Black family but no! Likewise, I can't bring myself down and embarrass myself by working for them. It might even cause more insults.
Thinking about the Black family and the guests who came yesterday, I swore I would never work for the Black family business. I will just disgrace myself for their own family if I ever think of doing such a thing. Not only that but they will see me finish and might blame Raven for getting married to an impoverished man like me.
Life is hard for destitute people because everybody sees you as nothing but a useless human being who doesn't deserve respect. But that's a lot different from the rich one. Everybody praises and adores the rich ones out of greed even though they're unkind and wicked to them.
Although I was down, I decided to give myself a second chance by applying for another job. But guess what? I feel they know who I am and have insulted me for coming to their company even though I know I'm a commoner.
They say a poor impoverished Guy like me isn't qualified to be one of their co-workers, and I must admit that that's one of the worst reviews that I have gotten. It was as if they were waiting for me to come all along.
I do wonder why nothing is working out for me. I'm just getting Rejected by everything including people who don't like me. Is this really how people see destitute people like me? They see us as a piece of trash that they need to get rid of. But it's really sad.
And just as I was coming downstairs from my last interviews, I suddenly ran into someone. It was a face I couldn't forget, and I knew that person to be Jerry who had tried seducing Raven yesterday. He was the man Katherine wanted to be his grandson-in-law. Instead of me that got nothing to offer.
I tried to pretend like I didn't see him, but he approached me and blocked my way when I finally got outside the company.
"Where do you think you're going?" He roars at me in a deep deadly tone and I move away from him while he leans towards me.
"I probably know that you will come begging for a job in my company which was the reason why I have told the staff to teach you a lesson". I was shocked by his words, how heartless he could be.
No wonder! So he's the manager of this company? He's rich and powerful indeed just like Katherine said to me.
"Listen to me Stefan; in this life, don't you dare curse or insult your helper because you don't know what tomorrow brings". Where exactly is he heading to? I thought as I folded my hand, just leaning against the wall as I watched how he babbles to me about being rich.
"I received some scolding from Alexander which has never happened before, and he was angry with me because of you!! What must I do to get you out of my sight because I'm willing to do anything? He slapped me as he spat those words at me.
But I dare not retreat to him. I have no power to do such a thing. I could only look at him and utter nothing.
"Come Kick this beggar out of here". I heard him calling his security guards as they walked towards me and kicked me out just as he had commanded them.
