Days passed, and the whole pack was still in shock over Jessica's death. We held a funeral for her, and it was the saddest day of our life. Mia stood far off from the group, tears streaming down her face as she remembered all the good times she spent with Jessica when she was still alive. I could tell she was feeling guilty about not being there to help her friend when she needed it the most.
As we buried Jessica's body, Derick gave a eulogy, speaking about how much Jessica had meant to us all, and how she would never be forgotten. I stood next to him, holding back tears as I listened to his words.
After the funeral, we all went back to our lives, but things were different. There was a heaviness in the air, and the pack was quieter than usual. I couldn't help but feel that we had lost a part of ourselves when Jessica died.
Days turned into weeks, and we continued to train and prepare for any future attacks from the black bird wolves. But there was no news of them, and we were left wondering what they were planning next.
One day, while I was walking in the forest, I stumbled upon Mia sitting alone by a tree. She was crying softly, and I could see that she was still struggling with the guilt of not being able to help Jessica.
I sat down beside her, not saying anything at first, just letting her cry. And after a few minutes, she finally spoke.
"I miss her so much," Mia said, her voice choked with emotion. "I can't believe she's gone."
"I know," I replied softly. "It's hard to believe."
Mia looked at me, her eyes filled with tears. "Do you think she knew how much I loved her?"
"I'm sure she did," I said, putting a comforting hand on her shoulder.
Mia looked away, staring off into the distance. "I should have been there for her," she whispered. "I should have done more."
"It's not your fault," I said, trying to reassure her. "We all did everything we could."
Mia shook her head. "I could have done more," she said. "I could have saved her."
I didn't know what to say. Mia was carrying a heavy burden, and I didn't know how to make it go away. All I could do was be there for her and try to support her through her grief.
As days passes, and Mia slowly began to heal. She stopped blaming herself for Jessica's death and started to remember all the good times they had shared together. And as for the pack, we continued to train and prepare for any future attacks, knowing that we would never forget our fallen friend.
As the days continue to went by, I couldn't help but notice how suspicious Mia had become. She was always leaving the pack Mansion without anyone noticing, and returning late at night. I knew that something was going on, but I couldn't quite put my finger on it.
One day, I decided to sneak after her, just to see where she was going. I followed her deep into the woods, until she stopped at a small cabin. I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw her talking to Blake. They were deep in conversation, and I could tell that whatever they were discussing was important.
I knew that I had to tell Derick about what I had seen. I couldn't keep this from him, especially after everything we had been through. But I was worried that he would be disappointed in Mia, just like he was with Lucas.
After some time, I finally mustered up the courage to tell him what I had seen. He was shocked, just like I was, and we decided to confront Mia immediately when she returned to the mansion.
As soon as Mia walked through the door, we confronted her. I could see the fear in her eyes, but she denied everything. She accused me of trying to paint her in a bad light in front of Derick.
"Why are you doing this, Sophia?" Mia asked, tears streaming down her face. "Is it because of what I did to you in the past? Can't you forgive and Forget?"
I pushed Mia away from me, frustrated by her fake tears. "No, Mia. I saw you with Blake. You can't deny it."
Derick was silent, his expression unreadable. He didn't know who to believe, me or Mia.
"Mia, tell us the truth," Derick finally spoke. "Are you working with Blake?"
Mia looked down, her eyes filled with shame. "Yes, I am," she whispered. "But I didn't have a choice. He's been blackmailing me. If I didn't do what he said, he would have hurt me."
Derick scoff, "Even you? Come on, why are you all betraying me!" Derick yell, but Mia said she has to do what she did, to protect herself from Blake threat.
Derick's face softened, and he walked over to Mia. "We'll protect you," he said gently. "But you have to tell us everything. We need to know what he's planning."
Mia nodded, and for the first time since I had known her, she looked vulnerable. It was a stark contrast to the confident and fierce woman I had seen before.
As we listened to Mia's story, I couldn't help but feel a twinge of guilt. Maybe I had misjudged her, and jumped to conclusions too quickly. But then again, I couldn't shake off the feeling that something was still not quite right.
After some days, I have the feeling that Mia was still up to something. She seemed to be too careful, too calculated.
One day, I decided to follow her again. This time, I was more careful, making sure that she didn't see me. I followed her deep into the woods, until I saw her meet with Blake again. This time, they were discussing something that was even more dangerous than what I had heard before.
I knew that I had to tell Derick, but I didn't know how to do it without breaking his heart because he already forgive Mia. I didn't want to be the one who caused another chaos in the pack.
As I walked back to the mansion, lost in thought, I couldn't help but remember all the times I had spent with Jessica. And how we hardly get along, but she was gone now, and Mia's suspicious behavior only made me miss her even more because Jessica, is not like Mia or Lucas.
Derick call for pack meeting, and as we sat in the living room of the pack mansion, Derick's eyes were glued to the map of the woods that lay before us. "I have just received some intel about the Black Bird Wolves," he said, his voice barely above a whisper. "They have a new hideout, and we must attack them to seek revenge for Jessica's death."
My heart sank at the thought of losing another pack member, but I couldn't help but wonder about Mia's involvement. She had been acting suspicious lately, always leaving the mansion without anyone noticing and returning late at night. But I decided to keep my doubts to myself and focused on the task at hand.
"We will attack them under the full moon, when their powers are at their weakest," Derick continued, his eyes still fixed on the map. "And Mia must come with us. We need all the help we can get."
I felt a twinge of unease at the thought of Mia being involved in such a dangerous mission, but I kept my doubts to myself. After all, Derick had made his decision, and I trusted him.
As we approached the Black Bird Wolves' hideout, my heart was pounding in my chest. I could hear the sound of the enemy pack's howls in the distance, and I knew that we were in for a tough fight.
Under the light of the full moon, we charged towards them, our fangs bared and our claws ready for battle. But as we fought, I felt a sudden jolt of electricity run through my body. My palm had accidentally touched Derick's, and a thunderstorm was suddenly striking between us, pulling us apart.
"What the hell?" Derick shouted, his eyes widening in shock.
I stared at him in confusion, my mind reeling from the sudden shock. And then I realized what had just happened. "We're true mates," I whispered, my voice barely audible over the sound of the battle.
Derick's eyes widened in shock, and for a moment, we both stood still, staring at each other in disbelief. We were both enemies, and yet, we were also meant to be together.
But our moment of shock was short-lived. Suddenly, Miranda, lunged towards us, her paw extended with her clawed fingers outstretched.
In a split second, she pierced her paw finger inside Derick's heart, causing him to collapse on the ground. I screamed and rushed towards him, tears streaming down my face as I called out his name, begging him to wake up.
But it was too late. Derick was gone, and my heart was shattered into a million pieces. And as I sat there, holding his lifeless body, I couldn't help but wonder what would become of our pack without its alpha.
Derick is dead...?
