"YOU are the hero" : The Fate of Faraway Chapter 83

As the applause still echoes after your memorable performance, the audience sends you an extra 2d6 Coins. With tears in his eyes, the innkeeper himself comes to congratulate you.

“Bravo, bravo! You are truly a remarkable artist, worthy of those of old.”

Visibly moved, he approaches the fireplace and takes down the magnificent lute that was displayed there. Your eyes shine uncontrollably as you examine the superb curves of this instrument more closely: it is certainly an object worthy of the greatest masters.

“This,” the innkeeper tells you, “is the instrument of the Anonymous Troubadour himself… Ah, you may not know who he is… It is true that he is far less well-known than our legendary hero Hammerfist, but he is the one who passed down his story to posterity. My family tradition has passed down to me what little we know of his history. He too was a hero, a companion of Hammerfist during his heroic deeds. Equally adept at singing and fighting, he supported the hero in all his endeavors. He was the greatest troubadour of ancient times, and yet his very name has faded into oblivion. Despite his own actions, he chose to portray Hammerfist as a solitary hero, for this artist asserted that a tale of a lone hero would be better remembered by posterity… Mind you: I do not diminish the Hero's exploits; however, even the most perfect of men can sometimes need help, if only to make their task easier.”

The instrument passes into your hands, and you delicately caress the strings… The sound is unparalleled, and you are certain that a few enchantments complete this masterpiece. Trembling with emotion, you turn your gaze to the innkeeper, wondering what he expects of you.

“I give you this lute as a gift. I think that's what its owner intended when he left this instrument to my ancestor, in this village where the man whose exploits the Anonymous Troubadour would recount far beyond the lands he had traversed in life lay buried.”

You thank the innkeeper profusely and improvise a few more songs with your new instrument. The sound is divine! A few delighted attendants grant you an additional 1d6 Coins.

Add the Anonymous Troubadour's Lute to your equipment. If you don't have room, discard something. You could never sell or give away such a marvel, even if your life depended on it! This lute grants a +2 bonus to all your actions with a lute and a 1d6 Coin bonus to all earnings from a musical performance using it. It can also be used as a weapon without ever being damaged (but without granting the +2 bonus) if you have no other weapon.
