I bit down my lips, I thought he would be staring at the beautiful Chloe but he wasn’t. I chuckled at myself, I was stupid if I think he would fall in love with someone he does not know. Robin knows nothing about love to start with.
“Yes,” Ava looked over at Katherine. “You have something to say?”
“Yes, we should skip the basics, whoever that is here and knows nothing about the basics of choreography should not be here in the first place,” Katherine said and I could see the director rubbing his forehead, of course, who wouldn’t be disappointed in an arrogant lady as Katherine.
To my surprise, I saw the beautiful Chloe laugh and I must confess she looks so beautiful. “Chloe I guess you have something to say,” Ava said with a smile as she stepped backwards.
“What is your name?” That was the first thing Chloe asked Katherine and Katherine hesitated before spitting her name out.
“Katherine, why?” Katherine raised her brows.
“Are you so good at Choreography?” Chloe crossed her arms over her chest.
“Ivana, am I the only one who thinks things are hitting up right now?” Kate whispered to me and I could see through the corner of my eyes that the others were sitting up to watch the show about to happen.
“I think so too,” I responded in the same voice Kate has used, I don’t even know why I was whispering now.
“Yes,” Katherine said boldly.
I scoffed. Is she trying to prove her name since she is titled a dance machine by the school?
“How about we see what you got,” Chloe said, the innocent faces I had seen a few minutes ago were covered with serious ones all of a sudden and for a moment the room felt cold.
I could see Ava smiling from behind and then I glanced over to the director and surprisingly he was also smiling.
“Get up.” Chloe clapped her hands and Katherine got up from the floor. “Come over to the front and show me what you got.” Chloe raised her brows and the proud Katherine did as she said. “Music,” Chloe called out and to my shocking beat started playing in the background.
I looked in the direction of the music and smile when I saw who had turned it on, no other than Lukas, I looked forward and saw Katherine dancing to the beat while Chloe nods her head as she watched Katherine, she looked at Ava and the director, they nod their head like telling her to do what she wishes.
The beat changed and to the awe of everyone in the room, Chloe started dancing to the beat making Katherine stop with dilated pupils. I was flabbergasted at the way she danced, so free as the bird, no stress and she dances according to the beat of the music, making light steps with her feet.
“Wow!” I could hear a few people exclaim behind my back.
“Ivana, is this like a dance battle, look at Katherine, she has become so stiff now she saw someone much better than her.” Kate chuckled and I can’t help but chuckle along with her, this was like our victory so don’t judge us.
The music was turned off, we could hear the painting of Katherine but not of Chloe, it seems like dancing has become a part of her.
Chloe walked over to Katherine who was still immobile. “Just because you are good at dancing doesn’t mean others aren’t, just because you are good at it doesn’t mean others shouldn’t learn. If you are so proud about it, then leave and let those who haven’t learnt the basics learn.”
Chloe paused and turned to the rest of us. “If anyone here thinks they are so good in choreography, that person too should leave, if not, then stay humble, keep your mouth shut and learn or watch.” She finished and turned to Katherine. “You may leave or better yet, sit back at where you sat.”
Katherine quietly walked over to the place she had been sitting and sat quietly as some people sniggered behind her.
“Why do I think I love this Chloe?” Kate said softly.
I gazed at Chloe who walked behind Ava ushering her to continue. “I think I love her too,” I said with a smile.
“Alright everyone, the show is over, let’s get to the reason why we are here.” Ava clapped her hands and we all got up. “Alright everyone, I would like you all to form a formation in fours.” She told us and we all did as she said.
“That’s good then.” She glanced at us. “Umm… you two, I would want you at the front.” She pointed at Katherine and one other girl and they did as they were told. “You.” She pointed in my direction.
“Me?” I pointed at myself after making sure no one was behind my back.
“Yes you, do you know the basics?” She asked me and I shook my head, I have never danced before, in fact, I suck at that, I was only good at singing and playing the guitar which I still felt I was lacking in,
“Then come over to the front.” She told me and I gawked.
“Huh!” I had just told her I was not good, why was she asking me to come over to the front this was insane. “I am going to be fine here,” I said with a smile as I pointed at where I stood.
“What is your name?” She asked me and for a moment I was silent. Have I offended her? This was the same question she asked Katherine before ridiculing her.
“Umm… I am… umm… Ivana Kimbuersy.” I said softly after stammering as I waited for what they had installed for me.
“Well, you Ivana…” Ava walked over to me and held my shoulder. “Would be a spotlight used to teach the others, stand over at the front.” She pointed at the same place Katherine had been called out to.
“Umm… I don’t understand.” I said with a choked voice while trying to force a smile and act like everything was okay when I knew deep down it wasn’t whereas everyone was now staring at me.
“Have you ever watched a show where a novice was used to teach the other novice and make them learn…” Ava said as she led me to the front, still holding my shoulder.
I blink and swallow hard. “You mean like a tool?” I asked and she nodded as we got to the front, she made me face the others.
“Exactly Ivana,” I heard the others mocked at me with a burst of resounding laughter and I knew I was here to be ridiculed. “But this is different, this is why I said you should consider yourself as a star.”
Before I could say another word she turned to the others who were already in the formation and spoke up. “Now everyone, this is how we do it, I will show you what to do with Ivana here and you all follow suit, understand!”
“Yes.” They all chorused.
Ava winked Chloe as a signal as she walked over to me.
“Alright all, we would go with… 1…2…3…” At the count of Chloe’s number 3, my hand was held by Ava and I was pulled forcefully and almost landed on the floor, but her other hand held me up and I made a backbend as my bones felt like they were going to crack.
“Ahhhhh!...” I shouted as I was moved again by her to the beat of the music and I slid down, my two legs almost colliding before I was pulled up again.
I knew instantly that after this practice was done, my bone would be so fragile I wouldn’t be able to walk. I looked over at Robin who was smiling, of course, he was being entertained by my anguish. I know right here I was being treated like a tool.
Fuck what she says about a star, I was like a doll right now, a practice doll, was this how difficult choreography was? If so, I don’t want to be a star anymore.
