Megan's POV
When he spotted me, his eyes sparkled, and a smile that resembled a grimace spread over his face. I hurriedly looked away from him so as not to offend him. His teeth were stained crimson with blood, and he had large, pointed canines that protruded. I could smell new kill blood on his fur as the crisp air flowed. I ducked lower to the ground with my tail tucked between my knees as he marched at me.
Did he dislike the meals I prepared?
Has my departure upset him?
Did he want to punish me this morning before I left? taunt me for assuming I could put my confidence in him and that he wouldn't do me harm?
As soon as his wolf dropped itself upon his paws, my claws bit into the icy ground in anticipation.
He gave out a loud bark, and I sobbed as I crouched down to the ground. The new snow underneath me was melted by my warm underbelly. I shook with dread and displayed complete obedience.
He then cried out. It wasn't lengthy or loud, but I was nonetheless perplexed by it. I'm confused. I carefully got to my feet while trying to ignore my panic. I gave him a wary gaze. His tail began to wag and his tongue was sticking out the side of his lips as soon as we locked eyes. He had the eagerness of a dog, I thought. I cocked my head and made a bewildered look.
He abruptly sprang up and dashed back into the undergrowth. I just stood there bewildered. I waited for a while, but he never returned. I followed his smell trail carefully since I was so curious. The fragrance of blood remained in the air as his scent became stronger. I tightened up and stopped moving right away.
Do I follow?
Does he intend to murder me?
I breathed out through my nose. He's going to murder me if he's going to. He is far stronger than I am, so I was unable to repel him. He could easily catch me if I fled. I'm too weak and exhausted. I took a long breath. I could see he was barely a few feet away. I go onward in despair.
He was waiting patiently near a large deer when I noticed him seated on the ground. Behind him, a little, crystalline brook was flowing. I remained still.
He led me to a deer, but why?
Alphas don't even share their food or anything else.
He whimpered once again, this time for a little longer, and gave the buck a nod. I did nothing except stand there and watch it. It was a new death since it was still bleeding from the significant bite scars. It was really big and would have fed me for at least a day. Fresh blood smelled so good it made my mouth swim. My stomach started to grumble. He whimpered loudly and brought the deer up to me. He carefully waited beside the head and was just looking at me. I gave him a wary look in the eyes. He didn't seem angry; rather, he appeared composed but somewhat uneasy. I cautiously lowered my head, smelled its flank, and then took a little bite.
The meat was flavorful and tender. I ate slowly and in little bites. He sat down in front of me on the ground and started tearing at the shoulder. We dined quietly. This pleased my wolf. She enjoyed the way he fed and cared for her. She was pleased with herself for taking down such a large victim.
I only consumed around half of it. Although I wasn't full, my tummy felt content. I lowered my head to the ground and moved carefully in his direction. He had just finished eating, but he stopped when he saw me coming. I carefully raised my head and licked his ear to express my gratitude. Before I took off, he gave me a shocked look.
I spent a couple more hours in the wilderness. The main reason I went there was to evade Alpha, but I finally returned to the pack home. My worn-out body was beginning to suffer from the cold, and I craved the comfort the pack house provided.
I hastily changed into the clothing I had set out before going up to my room. Before I reached my room, I passed the female Beta.
Dinner is prepared. She spoke. Do you want to join us? I froze in disbelief. Even after all Alpha is done, how could this be?
They're just attempting to deceive you. They aim to win your trust so they can betray you when you're not looking when you let down your guard. I pondered.
I hurriedly closed the door to my room instead of answering. The lights weren't even turned on by me. I crossed the room and sat down in the corner, facing the entrance. As I continued to look into the night, my exhaustion grew. My eyelids were very heavy.
Jason's POV
I ate supper alone once again, the chair next to me vacant. I had a peek around the pack house's first floor after supper. Afterward, a large number of the group stayed, just hanging around. She may have purchased food and eaten elsewhere or she may have avoided drawing notice by avoiding the crowd. Although I made an effort, her aroma was overpowered by the other smells. I searched the kitchen and dining room but couldn't see my friend anywhere. I scowled and kept looking around, wondering whether I had missed her. Before I could investigate the living, a hand touched my shoulder.
I turned my head, and Blaire remarked, "She's not down here."
"I told her supper was ready as I passed her in the upstairs hallway. She almost immediately fled inside her bedroom when I invited her to join us. She followed her lips and glanced down at the ground before speaking once again.
"It hurt me a little bit." She gave a headshake.
I ought not to have said that. I apologize. I only want to be her buddy. She once again shook her head.
"I apologize! She is in her room upstairs. She ought should still be up there since I didn't see her go.
I gave a grateful nod and made my way through the throngs of people. I scurried behind a wall to hide from Lucy, who seemed to be on a lascivious rampage. I hastily went upstairs since all I wanted to do was see her. I waited and knocked on her door but no one answered. I could smell her seductive aroma from here, and I knew she was in there.
She was supposed to be sleeping on the bed when I cautiously opened the door. Not at all. Although the light was off and the door was open, I turned to peek at the bathroom door. I gazed around the pitch-black space and almost missed the little sleeping figure huddled up against the wall in the other corner. Her choice to sleep on a rough, unpleasant floor as opposed to on her bed crushed my heart.
I carefully took her up without rousing her. She had to go to bed. I could make out the thin black circles beneath her eyes even in the dim light. I merely took off her shoes since I didn't want to disturb her or alter her. She was put on the bed, and I wrapped a blanket at the foot of the bed to cover her. I breathed in the lovely aroma that enveloped her as I pressed my forehead against hers. I gave her forehead a long-lasting kiss as I placed my lips against it.
My lips were still tingling when I locked the door and exited her room.
