Jason's POV
I saw Kai squeeze between the door frame and close the front door on Megan and herself. I wanted to hug Megan close to me and feel her palm on my chest more than anything else. The want consumed me to bury my face in her neck and breathe in her delectable aroma. My fingers and arm still tingled when she touched me on top of my chest. I desired her. I desired her. Nothing would have made me happier than for her to put her confidence in me and feel safe and secure in my presence and embrace.
"What in the name of hell was that?" Cole spoke out loud. What in the name of God is wrong with her?
"I humbly beg your pardon?"I questioned him carefully, almost daring him to restate his words.
You understand precisely what I'm referring to, Jason. With emphasis, he pointed to the floor before moving on to the door that they had just left. She doesn't think our Luna should be her! She is irrational and unstable! She will eventually do significant harm to someone one of these days.
As his little diatribe continued, I lost patience. It started as just my hand twitching but soon expanded throughout my existence, making my body shake violently and threaten to change. I could hear my inner wolf growling and scratching. His desire for his partner was evident in the way he spoke. He wanted to change the subject so Cole would know who he was talking to and who he was disparaging. Cole tried to say something more hurtful about my friend, but I stopped him before he could.
I growled gently, "Cole.." to get his attention to be silent.
Oh, please! You're not serious. He was cut off by my roar, which also shook the glass. I stormed over and, as you would with a disobedient dog, grabbed the back of his neck and forced him to bend down.
If you say one more thing, just one more, I won't think twice about punishing you harshly. I gave his neck a little more of a squeeze till he winced. I pushed him forward, releasing my hold on his neck as I did so. He tripped and took a few unsteady steps before regaining his equilibrium. He sat up straight, massaged his painful neck, and continued to look at the ground.
Megan's POV
My body was at ease in the peace of my bedroom, which protected me from the outside world. We tend to dislike strangers entering our bedrooms since it would be regarded as our lair and territory like wolves. When Kai's smell entered the space, my wolf didn't even blink. My wolf appeared to relish that her scent was designating this cave as her own. Leaning against the headboard and spreading her feet, she slid onto the bed and made herself comfortable.
Meg, are you all right? Kai questioned while cocking her head to one side.
Yes, Little One, I'm doing just well.
"No." She gave a headshake. You understand what I meant.
"I'm sorry, but I don't understand what you're saying. I'm good. I acted casual.
"You most certainly are not fine!" She sat up on the bed and slightly elevated her voice. After her abrupt outburst, the room became silent. I continued to look at my naked feet. I suppose I didn't remember to put on shoes since I'm used to not needing to wear them anymore. Finally, she let out a sigh and sagged her shoulders. "Megan, I understand what you're going through. I used to behave in the same manner. Kai made a low sound.
Then, what precisely am I experiencing? I questioned in the same subdued tone. Kai answered by getting out of bed and moving gently in my direction.
"Megan, you're terrified. To trust anybody would make you nervous. You're scared that everyone is always trying to hurt you. After a short distance, she stretched out and softly grabbed my hands. You're afraid that if you open yourself, you'll be wounded again. The words, as actual as day, flooded over me, and I bent my head in total humiliation. "Megan, I swear it's all right now. You cannot be harmed here.
I turned my back on her as I walked away after gently releasing my hands from her hold. "That isn't the case. They are here because of me, and they want me. They will still injure someone else even if they don't affect me. Later on, they'll succeed in getting me.
The reply was, "No, Megan." She moved ahead of me till she was behind me. Her hand found comfort in her position on my shoulder. They won't harm anybody, and they won't hurt you in particular.
The answer is "Yes, they will!" I whirled around and gave her my whole attention. The answer is "they will."
"No. You have protected me, and I shall return the favor. Nobody putting their Luna in danger will be tolerated by the pack. She gave me a dead-eye stare as she shook her head once again. "Jason will guarantee your security. He won't allow anything wrong to happen to you.
"You are unaware of it. They could resemble him or Master exactly.
"I do know. Jason can never bring himself to harm you. Therefore, he won't. Because friends always do that. Mates care for and defend one another. They are physically incapable of harming their spouse in any way.
"Little one --"
"I know. Even if it's hard to imagine, it's real. I had a hard time initially trusting Cole. I stayed back and jumped when he got too close. But eventually, I needed his assistance, and he came to my rescue. That day, I started to open up to him gradually but certainly. It took weeks, but I'm in love with him now.
