Megan's POV
He kept turning the different pages through the remaining hours of the night and the early dawn. I observed as his eyes searched through the plethora of names in an effort to discover the person he was frantically looking for. I saw his shoulder droop with each page flip, saddened by his mounting defeat.
"Why don't you stop for a moment?" The daylight looked through the windows, illuminating Jason even more as it broke past the tops of the trees. My gut turned as I saw that he was coated in dirt and dried blood from his assault.
I put my palm over the page he was reading to get his attention and pleaded, "Please," Just go take a shower, and maybe even eat something, I beg you. He seemed hesitant to go, but I was unyielding.
"Good, good. Fine. I'll go to do some cleaning but I'll be right back.
"No," I said as I snatched the book out of his grasp and set it down on the desk. I placed my hands on his chest and looked up at him to make sure he understood what I was trying to say.
"While I keep looking, you should go take a shower and eat something. You may take as much time as you need, but if I feel you didn't take enough time, I may ask you to leave. The man grinned.
"I never anticipated you to be this bossy," I said. He said, his eyes glistening. It's surprisingly reviving. When I realized I had really given him a command and told him what to do, my eyes widened.
"Go." I pressed on his chest while giving him a tiny grin.
He said innocently, "You don't want to join me?" "Get out!" As I saw the door close behind him, I laughed. I heard his footsteps moving away from me and a feeling of unease came over me. It led me to believe that he was departing once again, that he intended to leave my life and never return, and that all I was experiencing was simply a dream.
I brought the book into my lap in an effort to take my mind off of my bad thoughts. The parchment paper and the tattered cover made me think of my mother's diary, which was now abandoned in an attic.
The names had little significance to me, but the atrocities they committed were terrible.
Jessica Samoans... She didn't want her kid, so she drowned him in a river.
Bryant Granet murdered four children and raped nine others.
Caiden Parker took part in the killing of his Alpha. killed several innocent women and children.
Because his partner was unable to have children, Dylan Lansing...abused and cheated on her till her death.
The names of the deceased who genuinely meant anything to me were included in the book. They were the ones who were left behind and who had to endure suffering right up till the end. They made me think of myself.
But I was able to survive, unlike them. It informed me I was fortunate. I felt fortunate even though I had endured years of suffering since I no longer do. Through my hardship, I had the honor of getting to know Kai and other incredible individuals. I got the chance to run across my soul mate along the road, and she treated me well.
It helped me to know that I was loved by someone or many others. That it wasn't simply one-sided and that I had people to love in return. Some of these folks who passed away may not have had someone, but I was one of the fortunate ones to discover others who did.
I started reading about the catastrophes that other people had gone through. From violent crimes like murder and abuse to less serious incidents like robberies and broken bones. Finding persons was challenging since the information was arranged according to the dates the crimes had occurred rather than by their victims' names. My heart stopped when I discovered a Maxwell Withson, but there were Simon Jennings and Peter Long there instead of White.
I heard drawers opening and the shower turning off down the hall. He made his way downstairs and entered the kitchen, where pots and plastic cutlery were in use. I leafed through the big book of names looking for my last name, the names of my parents, and any relatives I may have.
I had previously attempted to discover them when I was younger. Alpha informed me that there were just the two of us remaining in our family, not a large one. that our family members—if we had any—wouldn't even want me. They would either toss me out with the garbage or grovel to Alpha to take me back.
My fingers started to twitch from keeping the same position at the worn pages' corner as I was ready to turn it over. As a result of my eyes being fatigued and seeing black circles, I was harder to see. As I read through these personal truths, the book got heavier on my lap, crushing me with remorse.
Asher White, so said my eyes. It required practically all of my mind's attention to register it. The incident was committed on November 27, 1997, only a few months before I was born. This Asher White had to be the guy we were seeking; he had to be Alpha.
I was too terrified to see what he did because I was afraid of what he may have done to my mother, my sister, or possibly my whole family. I knew I would find all the answers to my questions here, but I just couldn't bring myself to read anymore. It really frightened me since it refuted every falsehood I had been exposed to as a child. I lowered my head down and watched my feet dangle as I placed the book back on the desk.
"Hey." With a plate of food in hand, Orion unlocked the door. If you're hungry, I cooked you some bacon and eggs.
I murmured, "Thank you," and then I shook my head. nevertheless, I don't believe I can eat at this time.
"Have you located it?" He inquired and then positioned the plate next to the book before approaching me.
"Yes. I did, indeed.
"Really? What was it saying?
"I don't know," I feigned ignorance. "I just couldn't bring myself to look."
If I read it to you, would you enjoy it? I gave it some thought for a bit before nodding. He took up the book and sat down next to me on the desk while I watched.
"Asher White, Alpha Kronos White's second son. Perseus, his eldest sibling, launched a global hunt for his mate when Asher kidnapped her. The hunt for her was called off, and a fresh one started months after she vanished. Asher and the dead mate's daughter were the targets of a reward. Alpha Perseus had never discovered any of them. I let the information sink in, causing my limbs to go paralyzed with horror. Years of him telling me and yelling at me that he wasn't my father finally made sense. Because he was my uncle, he wasn't my father. I was taken away from my family by my uncle.
