Megan's POV
Lucy extended a hand to assist me and added, "We have to start leaving shortly. They'll come seeking for your corpse, she said. I grabbed her hand and she helped me up, but my legs couldn't support my weight and buckled under me. She assisted in supporting my weight by sliding her arm around my shoulders.
Why are you assisting me? We started to move and I grumbled. "I believed you to despise me."
"I did." She humbly acknowledged. Nevertheless, it was done for the wrong motives.
"How exactly did you locate me? We are far from the pack's boundaries.
"I understood the strategy. I was aware of their whereabouts. I pushed her away before falling forward and coming to a kneeling position. I whirled around and continued to watch her as I moved away from her.
You collaborate with them. I sobbed and accelerated my clumsy motions. "You are to blame for everything! You're a traitor, I say.
Would you please lower your voice? You'll be heard. If you'll simply let me, I'll explain everything, but you must stop. I hissed at her as she extended her hand once again.
"Look, I know you're upset, and if we got into a fight you might defeat me. However, you are now frail, and I could have easily killed you by now. Hell, I could have just let you perish, but I didn't. Let me simply assist you in returning to Jason, and I'll go over everything along the way. I reluctantly accepted her hand when she motioned toward it. We returned to our original location and started the ascent back down the mountain.
I'm not sure whether Jason had said that I am half-human or not.
He had already brought it up to me. She gave a head nod.
"My mother was a renegade werewolf, yet she was a werewolf. I have no idea why, but I was informed she was. Most people assumed that she did so because she liked independence and not having to follow other people's rules. She was what you may refer to as a call girl or hooker. I said nothing since I wasn't sure how to react.
"Your uncle, like other men, exploited my mother's services; that was how she supported herself. She was, however, absolutely enamored with your uncle—possibly even in love with him. The idea made me shudder.
"She became pregnant with me a few months after she first met him. She was overjoyed and believed that because she was having his child, they might start dating. He didn't give a damn, however, when she informed him that she was having his kid. She was cautious as she led us down the incline's steepness. She made sure she was standing on solid ground to prevent us from falling. When I was born with dazzling blonde hair and blue eyes—features that neither she nor he possessed—she was inconsolable. Being a human drug dealer, my father didn't want me either, so she shamefully resorted to him. He referred to her as a mental freak and urged her to go after she explained who she and I were. She left your uncle's porch brokenhearted and ate wolfsbane.
"I am incredibly sorry for your loss."
"It's okay. In any case, I hardly remember her. I was adopted by your uncle, and I was raised by others. Years later, he finally gave me permission to enter his home. He had pals around for card games, drug usage, and getting wasted off their bums. I nodded in agreement since I understood what she said.
"When he became really lost, he bragged that he had sold another young girl because she was misbehaving. If I didn't act properly, he threatened to treat me similarly. I followed his instructions after that out of fear that he would fire me.
He was always kind, complimenting me on everything I accomplished without his direction. I was just scared. I was worried that he would treat me the same way that he had treated you. I was exposed to the tales he made up about you as a child. You spread false information about how he beat and sexually assaulted you by going around and telling everyone about it.
Finn was brought over a few weeks after I moved into the home. He heard the same things I did, and Finn also shared information with me that his father hadn't. I eventually developed a distaste for you but not a hatred.
Then, one day, your uncle returned to the home and said that we had to go while appearing agitated. We had to get our belongings and go. He said that the reason we were leaving our home was due to you. I used to whine continuously about the dirt and having to eat meat all the time since we had to live in the woods and move around a lot. I started to despise you at that point.
We did that for a while, but after a while, both them and I became sick of it. Some of the rogues we encountered along the journey didn't appreciate the notion that I was a bastard kid and half-human. I would cause arguments among everyone, so it was agreed that I would have to leave. They misunderstood the instructions and instead dropped me off at the Mountain Ridge Pack when I was meant to be dropped off at the Claywood Pack.
Although the other pack members were hesitant to allow a rogue into the pack, the Alpha and Luna were quite welcoming, along with their kids. The other children were not permitted to get close to me, so Jason was the only child I was able to play with. Jason and I were close as we grew up, so I remained nearby.
We drifted away, and I was a little upset about it, but then you showed up, and he practically forgot about me. I agreed when Finn and your uncle discovered us and informed me of his plans. Amy enters the picture in some way, arguing that Finn is her mate even though he has no feelings for her. We used her and turned her sentiments against her.
One night, I couldn't help but overhear you sobbing in Jason's room. You were sobbing while telling him about your uncle's treatment of you. I opened the door a little after first thinking it was a bunch of rubbish. She halted and turned to face me, saying, "I saw all the scars on your back, which led me to have some doubt about them. Your uncle lied when he said that he would protect Jason and keep him alive for me so that we could dominate. I was outraged when he murdered him because he killed my boyhood buddy and breached his vow, but you also killed him.
Finn continued to attempt to grab me after that, but I resisted. Finally, he threatened to reveal what I had done to the pack, so I was forced to believe what he claimed. In order to make it seem as if you fled and were attacked by rogues, we devised a strategy to lure you outside the pack and kill you.
But I had to see Jason when he returned. The book was open on the desk when I broke into his office. When I read everything, all the falsehoods I had been fed were clear. Even though I was done with them, I wanted to be aware of their timing so I could forewarn you. I acted as if I was among them.
They moved it to today because they thought I had changed my mind. I smelled Amy within the pack, which I would have missed. I stuck around farther downstream to wait for you as I followed you guys.
"I'm grateful. I appreciate everything.
I'm sorry for being such a b*tch toward you; I was just scared.
"You feared losing your first friend," the person said. I gave a totally understanding nod. "You love you, but you aren't in love with him."
If you couldn't tell, I'm also incredibly protective of him. I was worried that you were a deceitful b*tch who would really injure him and simply wanted him for his social standing. I sincerely apologize.
"No worries. I absolve you. I apologize if it seemed that I was removing Jason from your presence.
"It's fine, really. I reacted too strongly.
"Megan?" A panicked voice yelled in the distance.
Lucy said, "It sounds like somebody missed you," and I chuckled a little.
Where have you gone, Moon Goddess? Before yelling and sprinting up to us, Jason yanked me away from Lucy and into his arms.
She'll be completely honest with you. I have certain responsibilities. Before turning and sprinting in the direction we had just come from, Lucy remarked.
