The sequence of events has made Sophie feel all kinds of enervation. Drained but happy. Exhausted but motivated.
Wearied and disappointed. Initially, the plan was to help the children. She did not expect that she would ever come up with a decision to form a guild. It was stressful, that she asked herself twice if it was necessary. It required a lot of effort, and patience.
Sure, just like what she wanted, it was indeed killing her time. But it was taking much more than she prepared to give.
But after all that, it was a journey. A short journey that gave her the whole picture of what was happening in the Kingdom. Perhaps, she was destined to do this. Because even though she didn’t hold a high position, nor authority, she was bound to help the Alpha.
“Ms. Sophie Drie, can I dare to ask what lead you to do this?” Anna, who was walking with Sophie, and Flora, asked.
Anna heard the guild’s purpose. She understood it. But she kept thinking about what kind of benefit Sophie could possibly gain from this. She knew she was kind, because she saw it with her own eyes. But all of this can’t be for nothing, right?
“There are wolves who live away from the Capital. Apparently, they’re not on good terms with the Alpha, so they aren’t getting any help and welfare. I wanted to provide.” Sophie turned to her and smiled. “Though, I must admit that it was so difficult. I mean, who am I to establish a guild? I am powerless. They wouldn’t even know me if not because of the Alpha.”
What Sophie said was specifically definite. She had been to six different village. Up until now, she only managed to gather a member of four. She felt that it was impossible for a highly inhabited kingdom to have few wolves who had healing powers. Though, it was understandable for low rank wolves. But still, the number of wolves she got was absurdly low.
There should have been two to three wolves in a single village who had knowledge in medicine. For a pack with a strong, and prideful Alpha, that should be palpable. They engage in combat. Learning medicine or gathering more wolves with healing power was the least they should do. And knowing how strict and responsible Axel continued to be, it was impossible for him to overlooked such an important practice like that.
Sophie knew that was certainly not the case. The pack was strong, and it was continuously growing strong because of his leadership. The only reason she was not able to lure them out was because she was no one.
They didn’t trust her. But perhaps, if the guild she spoke so highly of was already established and known, they would come out. She just needed to prove that the guild had a goal it would achieve. And they were on their way right now, to make it happen.
“Helping?” Anna’s brows etched. “Does helping mean a lot to you?”
Helping…
Sophie noticed, from how Anna pronounced the word, differentiate their viewpoints in helping. Maybe to Anna, it doesn’t mean a lot. But for someone who had been in a tough situation her whole life, she knew how it was to live in scanty.
Sophie lifted her brows. How could she carefully explain to Anna that before she came, she was just in a situation where she also needed help, without offending her?
She wanted to tell her how it should also be the same for her, as the guild was for helping those who are in need. But she thought that Anna was probably going to realize it too, on her own.
Sophie, Flora, Anna, and the others who have decided to join the guild headed straight to the Elders lair, as planned. They were going to submit their request for establishing the group. An organization without a leader but with a purpose to fulfill.
Sophie had estimated that the results will be out in one to two days. If Axel won’t deny it, the Elders will most likely approve it, as it didn’t harm the Western beliefs. Their oath was already written there. Everything that was needed to evaluate was already planted that all they had to do left was pass it.
But as Sophie and the others were walking towards their direction, she saw Rebecca walking with her mate, Edward. Curiosity grew obvious on Sophie’s eyes as she followed them with her eyes.
“So, the rumors were true…” Anna murmured, that caught Sophie’s attention.
Sophie turned to Anna to see what she was referring to. She found her looking in the same direction she did. Sophie’s brows then formed a line.
“What rumors, Anna?”
“The rumors about Edward and our Alpha’s alliance.”
Alliance? Did Axel approve it? Didn’t he just say over a week ago he wasn’t going to?
“Didn’t you know, Sophie?” It was now Flora, who spoke. “I remember mentioning it to you the other day. The Alpha had accepted the Alliance, including Rebecca’s request to live here.”
What?
She did not remember Flora telling her that. But most importantly, why didn’t Axel inform her? They were together every night. A few hours from morning too, each day. They had the time to talk about it. Why didn’t he… mention?
Sophie, who was just smiling over a minute ago, fell silent. Her lips pursed. Now that Axel’s covert was near, she thought about visiting him, and maybe discussing the little surprise she just heard.
Sophie fastened her steps and took the lead. She opened the door, and greeted the important wolves who were inside.
Sophie respectfully handed the paper to one of the Elders, who were Axel’s Council. They started discussing about the guild, and Sophie then explained what the group would be all about.
As much as Sophie could, she avoided mentioning about the wolves who turned their back on the Alpha to fend off the delay in result. But as a countermeasure, she also included that the group would be for everyone, and no exception, as the time may come that the Alpha, or the Council will forbid them from lending a help to whom they call the traitors.
The Council then told them about its announcement. It was a drill and they all knew it. It would also favor them if it would come in public, as it was Sophie’s plan to make people talk about it.
Sophie went out of the Elders’ lair after they were dismissed.
“I’m going to visit the Alpha.” Sophie tried to put a smile. “Flora, can you send them off?”
They had talked about what would happen while they were waiting for the result, so they can fully rest now. Whilst Flora, and Sophie would continue on feeding homeless children.
Passing the request paper had lessen Sophie’s work. But what mattered to her now was talking to her Alpha, Axel. Like a cayotes who had sense danger, Sophie trotted to the Alpha’s covert in the third floor. She met no problem on the way, as she was already known as the Alpha’s Queen.
I’ll smack him if he says he forgot. He can not possibly have the same reason over and over again.
Sophie calmed herself before knocking. She was fighting her irrational emotion from overtaking her, so she had to stop for a moment.
A few knocks were all that it took for her to heard Axel’s voice.
“Come in.”
