Passing the request paper had lessen Sophie’s work. But what mattered to her now was talking to her Alpha, Axel. Like a cayotes who had sense danger, Sophie trotted to the Alpha’s covert in the third floor. She met no problem on the way, as she was already known as the Alpha’s Queen.
I’ll smack him if he says he forgot. He can not possibly have the same reason over and over again.
Sophie calmed herself before knocking. She was fighting her irrational emotion from overtaking her, so she had to stop for a moment.
A few knocks were all that it took for her to heard Axel’s voice.
“Come in.”
Axel was in the middle of signing the request paper the Council passed on to him this morning, when he heard a knock. He was expecting to see one of the high ranked wolves to come, but as soon as he lifted his head, he saw Sophie on the doorway. It wasn’t until they locked eyes that she started moving.
“Sophie…” Axel softly called his name. He sat straight. “I didn’t know you’d come.”
“A surprise visit,” Sophie blandly replied before she took a seat. “Do you mind if I ask you something?”
Ask something? Axel’s brows formed a line. Did she visit him to ask something? Regarding the topic they had the last time, perhaps? About the wolves she wanted to help? Axel released a sigh.
The pleased expression that occupied Axel’s face for a second dissipated. Sophie stopped talking about it ever since he told her the reason he didn’t want to assist her, did something happen to make her mention it again?
Axel unhand the ballpen and stopped what he was doing. “Sophie, if this was about––“
“Did you accept Edward’s request of alliance?” Sophie cut to the chase.
Accepting the alliance wasn’t really a big deal to Sophie. So was letting his ex-Luna, Rebecca to live in the Kingdom. The deal was every time Rebecca was involved. Axel would always hide it to her. And for what reason? He forgot?
Sophie’s face was serious. She was not making speculations this time. She was asking. If the rumors that Anna talked about was real, then, it would hurt her. Whether or not his intention was to lie and exclude her from all of this, that would not matter. Afterall, if she was really important to him, he would always think beforehand if the action he was about to take would affect her.
He failed to do it this time.
“Yes.”
Stunned by Sophie’s unexpected question, Axel came forward with his honesty. He later then felt bad as he remembered the last time she got mad for it. Axel looked away, guilty. He waited for Sophie to say something, but all he heard was silence.
Axel looked to Sophie, again. He saw both disappointment and unvexed expression reigned on her face. He was in awe for a moment. The Alphas were known for their chivalry, and gentility knowledge, when it comes to women. Silence like this usually implied…
“I’m sorry.” Axel apologized. “I should’ve told you sooner.”
“Why didn’t you?”
“I didn’t know how to tell you.”
Sophie looked up, as if she was having a hard time breathing. She felt… extremely disappointed. Was hiding the only thing he could ever do to her? Did he not learn the last time? Or did he do that, knowing that it would hurt her?
Sophie was bombarded with thoughts. But she felt inarticulate. Axel just made her feel like he was still affected by his past lover. She hated it. She loathed the thought of Axel liking another woman, other than her. She despised the idea that Axel might still be… hung up to her.
Sophie swallowed hard.
“I just passed our request paper to the Council. They’ll probably pass it on to you after they review it. I hope you give it a chance, Axel.” Sophie was quick to change the topic. Her tone promptly changed, too.
“Request paper? What request paper, Sophie?”
“For establishing a guild.” Sophie threw him a blank stare. “I got what I wanted to hear. I’ll go now.”
“Wait.” Axel stood up. “You’re going to establish a guild? Guild for what, Sophie? You didn’t tell me about that.”
She didn’t. Sophie didn’t have the chance to tell him, because everytime she would speak about it, he would cut her off.
She thought then he would still know it after she pass the paper, so, she let it be.
“I didn’t.” Sophie turned around and took a step. “I figured you wouldn’t mind. Hiding things are normal to you, right?”
Axel’s lips hanged open. He wanted to call her name to stop her, but he didn’t know what to say. Sophie was clearly mad. Though she didn’t say anything, Axel was certain her Lady was.
Axel knocked himself down to his chair. His left hand automatically reached for his forehead to caressed it. Now, he really made her mad. Her silence was a proof. A woman whose behavior suddenly change after a revelation was something that should be taken of seriously. It was a symptom of a typhoon!
How is he going to make it up to her now? He intentionally hid it, and he admitted it himself. Not only he did this once, but twice. He apologized the first time and it worked, but this time, he would probably need a prayer.
Sophie’s way of teaching him a lesson was traumatizing.
Amidst of reflecting on his committed mistake, Axel suddenly remembered what Sophie asked. Why, indeed, did he not tell her when he had the chance to do so?
Because he knew Rebecca was planning something against them and he didn’t want her to worry? Or was it because he was… avoiding something?
“Do you remember when you also asked me to refurnish the Palace? When you would win me over by using material things to please me, whenever we fight. And when you took a break from the HQ because you wanted to copulate with Sophie? You wanted to impregnate her because you found out––“
Axel shut his eyes tight. Those were Rebecca’s words he just heard. His fucking delusional ex-Luna.
Axel’s jaw clenched. He breathed hard before he opened his eyes, and stood up. He set aside his things, and pick up his coat. He went out of his room, to follow Sophie, who was then ready to launch another ignoring session with him.
