CHAPTER 51
MONTANA'S POV
Alpha Lincoln was unbelievable, and he was beginning to get on my nerves. I am literally trying so hard to make everything work.
It is like he is just holding back, and I have no idea why. We are fantastic today, the next day we are like strangers, nothing is just certain.
I am trying to understand him, I am ignoring how cold and rude he is to me sometimes just because I want this to work, us to work.
I don't even know what is happening anymore, I am putting down my pride and dignity for him, but it is like he just does not see me or something.
He had told me that I should make sure I do not do anything to disgrace or embarrass him at the dinner party tonight, and then left me standing there.
No compliments whatsoever, just that coldness again that always makes my heart ache.
Even talking about his past, getting to know him more was an issue because it's either he changes the topic or gets upset, and he makes me feel like my feelings are not relevant, he belittles and dismisses my feelings so much.
That is so painful when all I do is try to love and care for him, make him feel it, or am I doing something wrong?
I remember when he said he needed space, I gave him space, right? I took things slow. He just confuses me with his actions.
I watched him walk away to our ride, I, of course, made a fake smile and walked behind him.
The rest of the family followed up. Alpha Lincoln, I, and my kids would be riding together, while Alpha Lincoln's parents with his sister would ride differently.
Throughout the ride to the party, we did not once exchange any words. He attended to my kids, though, smiling with them and all that.
I just stared out the window. Here comes that feeling again.
I actually finally told Victoria about us, but I asked her to keep it a secret because I was not sure of anything yet and so far, I really don't know anymore what's happening.
Soon we reached the place and the door of our car was open for us. Alpha Lincoln got down first and then brought out his hand for me.
I hesitated a bit but took his hand as the kids got down too, Zendaya being held by him and Zane being held by me.
We went in.
It was beautiful. The place, everything was so intact, neat, oh, and please note rich. Champagne was served, and we were directed to our special table.
Of course, Alpha Lincoln will go around and greet people, although I thought he would introduce me to some people but here I was at the table with Victoria and my kids as their parents also met some old friends.
I drank my champagne, eyes watching Alpha Lincoln, "Why don't you go meet him?", Victoria said.
"I wouldn't dare, he did not invite me to come with him, Victoria, I would rather not seem like a disturbance or like I'm throwing myself on him so much," I said.
"Just go okay? Plus you can use the excuse of people asking questions," She added, "Come on, go, I'm here with the kids, plus not really up for a party."
I rolled my eyes and got up, "fine."
My dress was fitted and sexy, no lies, and I let my curls fall freely. I walked elegantly to where Alpha Lincoln was and held his arm, "Hey," I said with a smile.
"Sorry excuse me," he said to the two men he was having a conversation with before directing his attention to me, "What are you doing here?"
"The party or by your side?"
"You know what I mean, Montana, so don't play dumb," he whispered, and we walked away from the men for a more proper discussion.
"People were looking, so that is why I came unless I would have just sat down there like a trophy and not moved a bit since you are so embarrassed by me," I told him and looked away. I had no idea where that came from, but I feel like I am hurting so much, and it is not fair for him to play with me or my feelings, and confuse me.
"Whatever, stay close, and like I said earlier, do not do anything stupid," He warned.
The night was alright, I got no attention from Alpha Lincoln which was okay, that is nothing new.
"I will go sit and have something to eat," I told him, getting tired after a few meetings and was already bored just following him around not even able to make proper conversations with anyone.
"Well you guys seem to mingle well", Victoria teased, thinking everything had gone well.
"Mingle? More like pretense and embarrassment," I answered her and ate some of the food she had brought for me.
I was not really feeling it anymore, the whole party and all, just wanting to go back to the pack.
"When does this party end?", I asked Victoria, eager to leave.
"I think in the next two hours, we just got here, Montana," she replied, "Wait, are you thinking of leaving?"
I nodded, "It is not like I am important here or anything. If I knew this was how it would be, I would have gladly stayed at home", I laughed sadly.
"You know what? I will have a word with him," Victoria said as she started getting up, but I pulled her down.
"What??!", she asked me, "Let me have a word with him, 'cause I am also fed up with his behavior."
"That will definitely not change anything for me Vicky, if anything will worsen it," I explained my part to her, "I know you want to help, but you have before and nothing changed did it?", I sighed.
"Look just leave it okay? I don't want him coming at me or hating me more than he already does."
"He does not hate you Monty, don't say that", Victoria tried to convince me.
I just shrugged, "He does not like me either."
"Pfft, I doubt that," Victoria replied with a shake of her head.
The last time I saw him, Alpha Lincoln, he was discussing with a lady, and she was being too close, although he did not seem to have any problem with that and all her flirting.
And now I was searching for him among the people present, but…, "Vicky do you know where he is?"
"Who?"
"Your brother? One minute he was there", I pointed at a place, "and the next he is not."
She just shrugged, "He won't just stay in one place at this kind of party."
Is that so?
Something about that lady he was with looked familiar, just something was suspicious,
"Let me go look for him."
