Covet Me, My Heartless Alpha Chapter 23

We remained inside the stopped car when we arrived at the pack house. Meanwhile, Jaxon was silent and his eyes were shut so tightly that it looked as though he may burst into flames if he opened them.

On the other hand, I stopped talking out of concern that he could direct his rage towards me. However, the Alpha King's final words to Jaxon continued to play with me after a few minutes had passed, stirring my dormant curiosity.

I slowly called out to Jaxon, fidgeting with my fingers, "Ahm... Jaxon, what did Alpha Zeus mean earlier about your parents?"

I covertly glanced up to observe his reaction, but I saw that he was still massaging his eyes while they were closed.

"Why do you need to know?"

I bit the bottom of my lip but was still determined, "Because I don't know anything about you. And this is the first time anyone has mentioned about them."

Instead of getting angry, he straightened up and laid down on my lap. Then, he buried his face in my stomach and hugged me very tightly.

We remained in the same position but I got no answer from him. And every minute that passed, his embraced getting tighter that I realized he had no intention of answering my question.

After lying on me for thirty minutes, he stood up and fixed me with a serious gaze before breaking into a lighthearted smile, but it was odd and felt forced.

"Shouldn't you have asked me first if I would agree to marry the Alpha King's daughter?" He lifted my chin and brushed my lips with his thumbs.

I gave him a raised eyebrow before grinning back at him and asking, "Why? Will you marry her? Are you going to make a vow in front of the Moon Goddess?"

To be completely honest, neither Alpha King nor Helene frighten me about the mating ceremony they were planning. I knew that Jaxon would reject it— because I had Morgan.

He could fuck her but I knew that he wouldn't go with her. Funny wasn't it? I could tolerate when he fuck another woman but I couldn't with what the Alpha King said.

He opened his mouth and ready to respond, but a Mercedes Benz pulled up next to his Porche and halted us both.

As soon as the light of the car died, he unlocked the door of his car and got out because he knew right away who the owner was.

When Vardon and Helene joined him in coming down, I was eager to follow him and didn't make a mistake.

'Why is that man always tailing Helene?'

As they turned to face each other, I halted behind Jaxon. Helene's face was still the same, but I could see that her hair and makeup were a little disheveled.

While they were discussing, I noticed Veron's hand, trying to stopped Helene. However, his sister was trying to take it back.

"Jaxon, heed my father's advice; and, all that Alpha Rio and Luna Fay started from scratch will be rebuilt—"

Jaxon growled, "How much longer need I tell you and repeat that I do not want you to use their name?!"

Alpha Rio? Luna Fay? Who are those?

"But this was their dream for you back then, it's within your reach, Jaxon! Why can't you do it? All you have to do is—"

"What? Get married and pretend to everyone that you're my mate? I told you a long time ago that I'd found my fated mate, and I don't see why you're still forcing yourself on me!"

"Watch your words, Alpha Jaxon; perhaps you're forgetting that you're speaking to the Princess of the werewolf realm and not the Omega you first met—"

"Then, she behaved as though that were the case. She needs to quit being so needy and obsessed with me—!"

Jaxon stopped as a sharp slap to the cheek struck him. I was in awe at what I saw, and as my eyes landed on Helene, I noticed that her makeup was utterly ruined by the tears that were constantly streaming from her eyes.

She pointed me with her finger and snorted, "Why? Who are you going to show everyone? That female rogue? That mateless nasty rogue?!"

I could sense every emphasize in her words, therefore I was not sure why I was unable to respond in kind. I even had a problem swallowing because of the invisible lump in my throat. I even had to force my breath to flow in my lungs.

"I can give you all the power you need, Jaxon, and she has nothing to offer you!"

Jaxon grabbed and squeezed my hand. After, responded, "Helene, she can't give me the power I want, but she's not like you. I saw her waiting the time I didn't come back. The time everyone hated her, she stayed. That's the big difference between you two. You abandoned me while she waited for me to return safely."

Jaxon yanked me out of there after he said that. And as we were going, I nearly fell over due to the rapidity of his step and the difficulty of my high heels. But as he went on, I could feel the impact of what he had said to Helene. It seemed like it engraved and marked in my mind.

'You abandoned me...'

My heart instantly began to race. For the first time, I experienced a chest blow that resembled an arrow.

Numerous insecurities were running rampant in my head. I often consider the picture they would have right now if I weren't for my sudden appearance. Did I become a barrier to them getting over their past?

My own feet automatically stopped moving as I glanced at Jaxon's well-fitted back.

He also stopped and turned to me when he sensed my pause. He didn't budge from holding my hand, but his brows did.

"Is there a problem? We need to get inside since it's becoming cold at night and you could get sick."

I shook my head as I couldn't prevent myself from asking him, "What am I really to you?"

He clutched my palm harder and the more he squeezed them, the more I could tell that his eyes had a slight maleness to them— and eyes full of doubt, like a man lost in his decision. Additionally, he clenched his jaw as though my question had impacted him hard.

I offered him a scornful smile as I raised my head. Was it really so difficult to respond to that question?

I carefully withdrew my hand from him as thunder began to rumble in the sky. I finally noticed the guilt in his eyes at that point.

"What is that remorse for, Jaxon? Is it for my question that you can't answer or for Helene? For Helene who you still love but your pride is too great to acknowledge it to her because of the past she left you?"

Unaware of it, tears started to come out of my eyes. But he did nothing but stare at them till they fell.

"Veronica..." he called but it just carried by wind.

I inhaled deeply to get my heart rate back to normal before voicing again in an effort to touch his heart— I hope it would get through his soul and acknowledge the feelings I had.

"I didn't know that loving Jaxon Knight could be this painful and bitter."
