Her tears started to form in her eyes, which made James rush towards her and check the content of the letter. Ava texted her about how much she missed her. It was an encouraging letter that made her do everything to have the strength to fight.
She gulped as she looked back at James, who was sighing in relief. James stumped his foot and gave her a death glare.
"I can't believe that I thought that it was bad news." James widened his eyes at her, which made her chuckle. She pursed her lips and crossed her arms.
"I don't like to see a woman who easily cries because of some small things," James commented, which led her to get the knife and throw it at him. James was surprised that he quickly avoided the knife. "Hey! What I mean is, is it your fault that I think something bad?"
"What do you want me to do after I read her letter? Do you want me to jump happily or even dance in front of you? Of course, I will cry because I never get a chance to be supported by someone. Did you even know how it feels when you don't have a choice but to let someone ruin you because no one supports you? That's what I feel right now, James."
"Well, I'm not stupid like whoever it is. How will I ask someone to support and cheer me if I'm not even doubting those things myself?" James didn't want to stop, and she grabbed another knife to prevent herself from throwing it in his direction. "Easy! Relax! I have a point, Veronica. Always remember that you don't need someone to believe in you. As long as you love and believe in yourself. You can be content with that."
"I'm not like you, James. You're lucky that you didn't feel like being kicked out of the pack." Veronica rolled her eyes and put the knife back. James sighed when he watched how she hid the knife. "It's too easy to say those words to my face. It's too easy to advise it to me, but if you are in my shoes, maybe there is a time that you will even doubt yourself. You will question your worth."
"All creatures here in this world have worth. That's what I always think about. But maybe you are right. It's too easy for me to give my opinion even though the shoe doesn't fit." James whispered as he finally realized that he was so insensitive for invalidating Veronica's side. It was inappropriate that he had been acting that way, as if he knew everything about her life!
She chuckled when she noticed that he was sad. "It's fine. You don't need to worry because I might be overreacting."
"You are not. You have a point. It's so careless of me to spit those words without even thinking about how you might feel. I'm sorry."
She paused for a moment. She couldn't understand why he suddenly changed his way of treating her. She was pleased to see that he slowly trusted her, just as she trusted him.
"Is it okay if I reply to her? I want to inform her that she doesn't need to worry about me."
"Go on. I will ask someone to send the letter for you." He agreed and slowly walked away from her. He seemed to be in deep thoughts, which made her decide to test him. She silently took the knife and threw it closer to him.
He gasped when he heard how the knife stabbed the wall. He turned around and pointed his finger at her. "Veronica, why did you do that? You almost killed me!" He wailed.
"It's you who told me that I always need to be alert to my surroundings. It seems that you have problems; that's why you didn't see the knife coming toward you." She felt shy when James gritted his teeth and didn't say anything after that. He only left her and made her dumbfounded for a moment.
Veronica decided to reply to Ava's letter on the spot. She had a lot of stories for her, and she didn't mind if she wrote everything for her.
‘Ava, don't worry about me. I'm happy here. You will see that I will be the powerful Alpha female.'
She was smiling the whole time she was writing those words. She was glad that she and Ava were fine. She stopped writing and remembered Morgan again. She asked Ava about Morgan's investigation.
The next day, James decided to make her training difficult. She felt that her body was being punched a lot. She was panting when she collapsed on the dusty ground, which made James chuckle at her.
"Are you mad at me? You're trying to punish me because I threw you the knife, right?"
"I'm not doing these on purpose. I observed that you can easily do the normal part of the training. That's why I decided to make it more difficult."

"Is Jaxon here in the pack? I want to see him." Helene talked with the guards. She was agitated that Jaxon prevented her from going inside his pack. She thought that Jaxon was unfair and would do everything to make her suffer.
It wasn't her fault that Veronica died. It was good for her if she died too fast with her son!
"Helene, what are you doing here? Alpha Jaxon isn't free today." It was Uriel who talked to her. She gritted her teeth and commanded the guards to leave them alone.
"I know that he's only trying to avoid me. Why is he too affected when that bitch is gone? We can finally be together!" She exclaimed without even thinking about Jaxon's feelings. All that was important to her was herself.
“Veronica is his mate. Did you even know about it? That's the reason why he can't see you!”
“You didn't inform me about it, Uriel? I thought that I still always had the chance to be with him!”
