Time passed and they were yet to catch up to her.

Leaders of one of the largest superpowers in the world were discussing the issues plaguing the world.
The president of Accralo sat at the highest table listening to the old general telling him about the number of men they lost.
A few days ago.
On a desert, this desert was restricted property, it was the training camp of the Accralo military.
It was also a base for many scientific experiments, some much too dark to come to light.
Soldiers were running through the desert at night as part of their training. They were all carrying heavy bags on their backs.
" Is it me or is this place much colder tonight? A soldier asked in a low voice.
" Stop!" The leading soldier shouted, everybody stopped. They came closer to ask what’s happening.
However the soldier also had a confused look. " Sorry, I thought I saw something, it’s probably nothing."
" So you wasted out time? It’s fine guys, move!" Another soldier shouted and they started marching again.
" Does the sand feel softer?" A soldier asked his friend next to him.
The friend shrugged, " It’s sand man, it’s soft."
The soldier nodded, " You’re probably right." They moved for a few more kilometres then came to a stop.
" We camp here for the night." The leader shouted, the soldiers worked rapidly to set up camp.
Before long, tents were all over the place and they took turns sleeping. The night continued.
The desert was dark, dark clouds blocked the light from the moon and the stars making the night even darker.
A group of soldiers sat around a fire, they were the first group on the watch. The soldiers were quite relaxed.
They’ve done this many times, went through this route hundreds of times, they knew it was safe.
After all, no matter how foolish another country is, they wouldn’t dare send their soldiers here.
They would just be sending them to die a meaningless death. " I’m going to take a leak."
One soldier stood up and went behind the tents, the others continued talking then a minute went by.
The soldier hadn’t come back, " That’s a long leak." One of them commented.
" Maybe he’s stroking one out." Another spoke laughing.
" Naaa, he would’ve been back 55 seconds ago." The soldiers laughed.
They were all close to each other and joked with other like this often. They continued laughing and joking.
Then another minute went by but the soldier didn’t return. " Something is wrong, do you think that bastard is playing a prank on us?"
" Probably but I’ll go check just to be sure." One soldier stood up and went behind the tents but there was nobody there.
" Oy McKenzie, stop playing man and come out!" He shouted but there was no answer, he looked down and saw a small crater on the sand.
He crouched down and touched it and it felt soft, too soft as if there was a hole beneath it.
He got worried. " Guys, McKenzie isn’t h..." His voice cut off before he could finish his sentence.
The others stood up, " Aniston, What’s happening back there, are you and McKenzie sucking each other off.
It’s okay dudes, we know you’re gay, we ain’t judging!" Another soldier shouted trying to get them to respond in anger.
However there was no response, knowing McKenzie’s temper, they knew he would’ve came running with a drop kick after that statement.
" Something is wrong." They all nodded at once.
" Let check it out before waking up the others." They followed each other behind the tents and saw sand sinking.
The area was around 1.6 metres in diameter, they all immediately knew there was a hole there.
For a moment they thought those two fell into the hole and were buried by the sand so they shouted.
However there was no response, " Wake up the others." One soldier rushed to sound the alarm.
The others woke up including their lieutenant. " What’s happening? Why’d you maggots wake us up?"
" It’s McKenzie and Aniston sir, they’ve disappeared sir. We believe they fell into this hole and were buried by the sand but they’re not answering."
" Then did this thing up!" The lieutenant shouted and the soldiers rushed to dig, it took them nearly a dozen minutes.
They dug eight metres deep before they reached the end of the hole or at least its vertical end.
The hole took a sharp turn revealing a tunnel that ran under the sand. The tunnel was over 1.5 metres tall.
However what was strange was how the tunnel looked. On its walls there was a thick mucus like substance.
This substance was holding the sand together preventing the tunnel from caving in.
But the tunnel looked like it was dug using teeth. " Who could’ve done this?" A soldier asked touching the mucus.
" Or what." The other replied making his friend shiver. They climbed back up to report to the lieutenant.
However just as the second soldier was about to climb out, the sand shook as if a train was coming.
In a blink of an eye, something came below him and grabbed him yanking him back into the tunnel.
All the others heard were his screams that kept getting further rapidly. The lieutenant and the others froze for a moment.
" GET YOUR GEAR RIGHT NOW!" The lieutenant shouted drawing the soldiers from their stupor.
They rushed to the tents and picked up their guns but they barely had any bullets and the guns weren’t high calibre either. The lieutenant rushed to his tent.
" Over, this is scorpion over." He called out through the radio and a voice came from the other side.
" Scorpion this is command."
" Scorpion to command, we seem to have encountered an unidentified enemy, we’ve already lost three men.
Enemy can move underground, it used stealth to take out three of our men, we’re not equipped to deal with an identified enemy, requesting back up."
" Noted, back up arriving in five."
