Fated Tó The Evil Viking Chapter 107

Her countenance immediately changed

She lowers her gaze then, awkwardly clearing her throat.

"Uhmm, so many questions. Now where do I start answering from?...

"True, the eastern part was a pain in all our asses. Especially when I lost three men patrolling the darn place. After I lost my men, I became fed up with the place. I'm not going to lie that for some time I lost interest and hope, but I never gave up. I never relent. I kept on working and everything became easier for us when the electric fence was erected.

It was after the fence was erected and things became easier for my team that Zachary, one of the elders suggested at the executives' monthly meeting that somebody else should take over the patrolling of the place.

I mean, where was he when the place was still dangerous? Why didn't he come up with that bright idea before the fence was put up? Why wait until the place is safer for my team to patrol before suggesting it be taken away from us?

I was mad. I protested of course but it was as if Zachary and Lindsey already agreed on what to do before the meeting. Justin also supported that it be handed over to them, so there was nothing I could do. Not when everyone else supported them."

"Justin? Is Justin part of the executives?" I ask toward Eric, wondering why he didn't tell me if Justin was among the executives but he just shrugs his shoulders, indicating he also had no idea.

"No, no, Justin isn't an executive. He was placed in charge when the Alpha fell sick. I couldn't tell you who is currently in charge because I left the meeting in anger. I didn't wait to find out who the place was given to between Zachary and Lindsey. If you want me to guess though, I would say, Lindsey because I got a mail the following day for me and my team to report to the west which she used to patrol.

"Excuse me, I don't understand, is Justin supposed to be in charge of the pack anytime the Alpha is not available? Isn't that the Beta's job?" Ivar asks loudly for everyone to hear.

"Yes, it's supposed to be the Beta's job but Evelyn insisted Justin be put in charge. She called it his learning process."

"His what now?..." I ask, laughing in disbelief. Wondering why the Beta would allow himself to be ousted in such a manner.

Before I can ask her who the Lindsey who took over from her was, Eric gives me the information through our mind link

'Lindsey is female. She's thirty years old and her rank in the pack is Delta.'

'Thanks, man.' I reply to him before saying to Carol,

"You're older and more experienced than Lindsey but she is Delta. Your superior. Maybe there was a reason why she was asked to replace you. You should have asked for that reason instead of leaving the meeting in anger, don't you think?"

She chuckles

"No... Lindsey is my superior in name only. She got the position because she is Evelyn's cousin." She tries to sound nonchalant but the bitterness in her tone is obvious. Which makes me wonder if I was wrong about her relationship with Evelyn. Could it be that they aren't on good terms after all?

"Oh, I see..." I say, my tone of voice sounds surprising." But aren't you supposed to be Evelyn's friend? She betrayed you and your mate, I see..."

"No..."

"Oh, now I understand..." I interrupt her mid-sentence, nodding knowingly. "Is that the reason you decided to come to me, the man you believed killed your Alpha and mate?..."

"No, that wasn't..."

"You hate me yet you think we would be allies. You think we would work against Evelyn and Justin, is that right?..."

"No, dammit!" She growls and bangs

on the long table with frustration. She however immediately starts to apologize when she realizes she acted out of line.

"I'm sorry for my outburst. I'm so sorry but you got it all wrong. The fact that Evelyn and I are the Alpha and Beta's mates doesn't make us friends! We don't get along! We're not even on speaking terms with each other! I'm not even sure if Evelyn has it in her to be friends with anyone.

"Hmmm... Why do you say that?"

"Because she's a user. She would only laugh with you and pretend to be your friend if she's getting something from you but the moment she's done using you she chucks you aside."

"Like she chucked you aside before?" I say, prodding her the wrong way but instead of her to get angry she smirks back at me

"Nope. Why do you think we don't like each other? Because she couldn't use and command me as she did for everyone else! I was born in this pack. I grew up here. I was in this pack when she got mated to the Alpha so I can't easily be fooled by her. I know the sort of person she is.

And I'm not saying all this because I want us to be allies, no. You're still a suspect in my husband's death until the trial determines the truth. I'm just saying things as they are between us."

'Wow... She's not Evelyn's friend, do you believe her?' Eric asks through the mind link'

'Of course, I don't. I don't trust her as far as I can throw her.' I reply to Eric then nod at Carol

"Okay, I hear you. Let me ask this last question before we go to the reason why I called for the meeting...

When did you stop patrolling the east?"

''Three weeks ago." She replies

'Three weeks ago. That should be about the time that the fence was destroyed then' Henrik says through the link

'Please don't tell me you already believe her cock and bull story?' Eric ask

'No, but she's a damn good actress if she was lying. Let's just keep our eyes on her and her daughter. I guess, by tomorrow we'll find out if the eastern patrol was indeed taken away from her or not. Right?'

'Yeah, we will I say

"Okay. Since you said the pack is patrolled every day then I guess you all already know the electric fence is no longer working then..."

Her eyes widen

"No longer working? But that's not possible!... The fence was erected just three months ago and the Alpha made sure of its everyday maintenance. And like I said, the pack is patrolled every day so there's no way it wouldn't be noticed and announced if it's no longer working! Absolutely no way!"

"Okay..." I say not disputing her words. I signaled to Bear who took photos of the destroyed fence.

"Show the photos on the screen..." I tell him and he immediately gets up, walking to the tv mounted on the wall. He connects his phone to the TV through a USB cord and picks the remote to search for the file the photos were saved on.

"Oh, goddess!" Carol and her daughter gasped out loud when the photo slide of the destroyed fence started playing on the TV.

"This fence didn't just stop working, it was deliberately destroyed!" She exclaims
