Eric's POV
The doctor and his team are already waiting for us when we return to Alpha's mansion.
I watch the drama between Ben and his pregnant mate as they cry and cling to each other, neither of them willing to let go.
'Why cry over spilled milk?' I wonder
Perhaps if I were human, I would have found the sight of the two of them crying and clinging to each other pitiful when they were about to be separated, one to the dungeon and the other to the mansion's clinic but I don't. We all don't.
They brought this upon themselves when they decided to blindly follow Cyrus's instructions. Why should we pity them when they decided to not just publicly disobey their Alpha but to also kill him in an ambush? Why should we pity them when they choose to put their baby's life at risk? They knew it was dangerous for a she-wolf to shift while pregnant yet they made that choice, instead of submitting to their Alpha's authority.
My heart slammed over my rib cage out of fear when I came out of the woods and saw the bullets-riddled car. They really wanted to kill Thor! The only family I have left in this world would have died if one of the bullets had hit a vital organ. How do I forgive that!? How am I supposed to be compassionate towards them after all they've done?
"What are we going to do about the other Gammas left? We aren't going to allow them to continue with their duties or are we? Or should we also get them arrested?" I ask Thor as we watch Ivar and Timothy lead the prisoners toward the third wing where the dungeon is located
"We can't arrest them because they've done nothing wrong– yet. As for allowing them to continue with their duties, that's yet to be determined. Let's wait and see how this night unfolds. I might even have to imprison them all but that would depend on their reactions after they've heard about their superior's arrest"
"Okay..." I say, nodding in agreement.
As we walk to the main wing I say,
"We should hurry and change out of these rags before the patrol team we emailed starts to arrive, even though I doubt if anyone will show. I mean why would the subordinates show up where their executives didn't?"
"You might be surprised. Who knows, there might be more like Carol and Victoria, waiting for an opportunity to show up here."
"Carol and Victoria huh? Seeing the way you talk about them, you already trust them that much, don't you? Especially Victoria?" I ask, looking at him seriously as we climb the stairs.
We arrive at the top of the stairs and Instead of going in the direction of my room, I go with him to his. He turns toward me as soon as the door swings shut behind us.
He exhales
"This is about me accepting Victoria's offer to be my concubine, isn't it?... You know me, Eric. You know I don't trust blindly. You know I will never allow my emotions to interrupt with logical reasoning."
"You can't have a concubine, Thor..."
"And why is that?..." He hastily asks in annoyance. Why can't I have a concubine?"
"Because you have a mate and..."
"C'mon, man! So what if I have a mate?" He heatedly cut me off again.
"You talk as if you don't know I can also have a concubine if I want one. I just don't understand, are you on her side now? You don't even like her so what's the big idea!?"
"The big idea is, you have a special mate bond with your mate and..."
"I don't give a shit if I have a special mate bond with her, Eric! She's my mate but I'm not attracted to her in any way. Doesn't that qualify me to get a concubine? I don't even know her name, man!... And where's she right now? My supposed mate, where's she in all this?..." He's spat out
I can only nod my head in agreement with the point he just made because I know he's right. And also because I can't tell him the truth yet even when I'm aware he's not stupid. I know he's figuring things out himself and I'm not surprised. The seer already said that the truth will slowly occur to him.
With everything that's happening with his mate, I'm glad he doesn't find Miranda attractive. As for Victoria being his concubine, I'm not going to question him on that anymore. The seer already told me since he has mated with Ash, he will never be able to mate with any other she-wolf as long as she's alive. I will allow him to find out that fact by himself.
"You're right about your mate. Where could she have gone though? How could she just up and leave without informing anyone?" I ask him but he just shrugs his shoulders.
"I honestly don't care. I have a lot on my mind right now to worry about irrelevant matters... Do you think I have enough time to grab a shower?" He swiftly changes the subject, putting an instant end to the topic of his mate and concubine.
"Yeah. You should get on with it right away and I'll do the same. Listen, instead of going all the way to my room, can I maybe, make use of your bathroom instead? We can get on with our business and talk at the same time..."
"Oh yeah, why not. Why don't you just move in here? Wouldn't it be better that way? I don't mind having a roommate you know..." He sarcastically says with a serious expression on his face.
I laugh as I stand up to leave.
"Okay General, I'm off to my room. I guess I'll see you soon." I say and walk out of his room.
As soon as I enter my room, I make a beeline for the shower, shedding what was left of my jeans and t-shirt on the way. I'm still in the bathroom when I hear my bedroom door open.
I'm not surprised when I come out of the bathroom to see Thor, who is now fully dressed reclining on my bed while browsing through his phone.
I already knew it was him the moment I heard my door open since he was the only one who could enter my room without knocking. I ignore him and walk straight to the closet to get dressed. I was putting on my shoes when a knock sounded on my door.
"Come inside, Ella," I answered. I know it's her since I already smell her essence through the door
She pushes the door open and walks inside...
"Sorry for the interruption Alpha, Beta..." She greets us with a slight bow.
"Three members of the patrol team are here already. Also, Victoria called from the pack's first gate. She said a team of twenty men who call themselves 'Claws for hire' are waiting for you. She wanted to know if they should allow them in?"
"Whose phone did she call?" Thor asks
"The mansion's number. You can receive it in the hallway up here if you want to speak with her"
"Okay, thanks and tell the members of the patrol team that are here to go wait for me on the field. I'll be with them soon"
"Yes sir." She replies with a bow before leaving
By the time he's done speaking with Ella, I'm also done lacing up my running shoes.
"The mercenaries are here." I say since I know that 'Claws for Hire' is the name of the mercenary group we just hired
"I guess but let's first confirm who they truly are before letting them into the pack. Better to be safe than sorry."
