Thor's POV
"Put the person in charge of the group on the line," I say into the phone when I answer Victoria's call from the hallway.
"Alright, Alpha. Please hold" she replies
I know the voice of the mercenary leader that I spoke with earlier when I was making the arrangements. I asked her to put him on the line to make sure they don't mistakenly let the wrong people into the pack.
"Yeah, this is Mitch McAllister..." I hear a familiar voice start to introduce himself on the phone. I don't need to hear anymore before I can confirm he was the one I spoke with.
"Never mind..." I interrupt him. "I just wanted to be sure you're the same person I spoke with earlier,"
"Oh, I understand. No problem, Alpha"
"Yeah, please give the phone back to my Gamma."
"Sure."
"Alpha?..." Victoria's voice returns
"Yeah, you can let them in."
"Okay, Alpha."
"Oh and one more thing. The second gate has been closed for the night. I want you to Inform your colleagues guiding the gate with you and also the ones guiding the third gate to all report to the sports field near the Alpha's mansion for an urgent meeting. My men will be there to take over from you all pending the time you would spend at the meeting."
"Okay, Alpha."
"The meeting is mandatory, Victoria but not compulsory. Don't forget that." I finally say. I'm about to end the call when her voice stops me.
"Uhm— I'm sorry Alpha. I'm afraid I don't understand what you just said. The meeting is mandatory but not compulsory?... I— uhh..."
I exhale impatiently
"What I'm saying in essence is that, even though the meeting is very important for the Gammas and every member of the patrol team to attend, you all are not compelled to show up. You also can choose to follow in the footsteps of Cyrus and the other superiors who openly disobeyed my command.
Problem is, I might not be as merciful as I was with Cyrus and his Gammas. They are lucky, you see, because I'm naturally not a forgiving man. Now I can't promise that the next wolf that makes any attempt on my or any of my men's lives won't immediately die by my hand." I say and promptly end the call. I hope for their sake that she understands my message.
"Boy, am I glad that everything is almost in place? I think today is one of the longest days of my life" Eric says as we walk down the stairs.
"Yeah, and it's about to be a very long night. I doubt if we'll be getting any sleep tonight." I reply
"You think the rogues would attack tonight?"
"I don't know but it's a possibility. They might want to attack if they already know we've discovered the fence is down. Let's just prepare for the worst." I reply and he nods
"How many people do we have in a patrol team?" I ask
"Fourteen, Plus their superiors making fifteen in a team." He replies
"Uhmm!" I say in reply
We arrive at the living area and all the men stand up to acknowledge our presence.
"Please sit. I'll be with you in a moment" I say to them as we walk on towards my office.
We arrive at my office and I bring out my phone to call Henrik to find out how far they'd gone in arresting Lindsey and her team.
He answers the phone on the first ring
"General, I was just about to call you..."
"Yeah. Tell me how the arrest is going.
"We got all fifteen of them and we're on our way back to the mansion right now."
"Great! Good job! I'll see you later then" I reply with a smile. I wanted Lindsey and I'm glad she isn't able to escape like I'd been picturing the situation in my mind
I turned to Eric to pass the good news to him
"The arrest was successful. They got Lindsey and all of her team members. They are on their way to the dungeon right now"
"Yes!.." Eric says in excitement, slapping me heartily on the back. "Yes! Yes! Yes!" He continues saying to my amusement.
"We took them by surprise." He says
"We sure did..." I say and laugh. I know some of them would have escaped if not that we took them by surprise
"You know what, Thor? I've been thinking. I think the field is not the right place to have the meeting with the members of the patrol. I think the indoor basketball court is better. It's big enough to contain all of them if they decided to show up and also because of the big screen there."
"Big screen?... What has the big screen got to do with the meeting?" I ask in confusion, not immediately understanding his reason.
"We need the screen to show them all the evidence we have,..."
"Uhh, no!– I don't need to prove myself to anyone anymore Eric. I don't want to force anyone to work with me if their mind has been made up..."
"No, Thor. Wait, let me finish. You're not proving yourself to them. You're simply giving them the option to either trust you since all that they know about you are the lies Evelyn, Cyrus, and the other executives told them about you. Showing them this evidence is making them face reality and proving to them that Evelyn and his cohorts are liars. Think about it"
"Okay, if you say so..." I agree. I don't need to think about it. "Get Victoria on the phone then and let her know the venue change."
"Yes, Alpha." He replies. The corner of his lips curves into a mocking smile
"So which part of the pack are you going to place the mercenaries?" He asks after calling Victoria.
"The east, since it's the most sensitive area in the pack. I'll also patrol the place with them."
"And what about the rest of us?"
"Each of you will also be at every strategic place in the pack. While I'm patrolling with the mercenaries at the east, I want you at the first gate. Henrik will be at the second gate. Ivar will take the north and Bear and Timothy will take the south and west.
"Who will watch your back while you're at the east then? The mercenaries? You trust them that much already?"
"I don't need my back watched, Daddy, I'm a warrior, remember?" I reply but immediately change my mind when I see his countenance turn appalled as if I just told him I'm about to take a swim inside molten lava.
"Okay. You don't have to look like the world is about to end. I'll take Ella with me. Oh, I forgot about the guys that just came in from the estate. I'll take one of them too, is that okay?..." I ask
"No man. I quickly interrupt, indicating with my hand for him to stop when he opens his mouth to protest again...
"We can't both be at the back, Eric. I need you at the front. Yes, the east is the most sensitive but rogues are known to be audacious. What if they decide to attack through the main gate?"
