"Let's go find somewhere away from all these prying eyes to talk," Alpha Nate says as he picks up his briefcase from beside him on the floor.
"Yeah. I know somewhere that people hardly use." I say as we walk out of the courtroom while my men follow behind us. I decided we should talk on the stairs. At least I know that place is away from prying eyes as people hardly use it.
We climb the stairs and I stop at a landing when we've climbed far enough. To ensure we have privacy, Ella goes back down to stand somewhere on a staircase like a lookout while Ivar and Bear continue up to be sure no one is waiting around, leaving Alpha Nate and me alone to talk.
"Now we're alone. What's the problem? Let's hear it." I say as I notice his countenance has changed. His worried look is now relaxed with a smile
"Actually, we don't have any problem..."
"We don't?" I ask with surprise. What happened? Weren't you anxious about something like a moment ago?"
"Hmm mm... I just had to adopt that look so they would think I was worried for you because of what we talked about inside the judge's chamber."
"Okay?" I drawl a little so he would cut the crap and let me know what went down inside that asshole's chamber already
"Okay, so the judge wanted me to watch an eyewitness video presented by Evelyn's lawyer, where a man gave a detailed explanation of how he saw you murder your dad."
"Huh?..." I say as my eyes widen in disbelief. "A man testified to seeing me kill my father!?"
"I know right..." He says and chuckles.
"So after we finished watching their supposed damning video, her lawyer said she's heartbroken and would rather not go through the whole trial drama if you're willing to plead guilty to the crime.
"What?..." I exclaim, chuckling in disbelief. "And I thought she loves drama."
"The judge, or should I say her judge, understood her plight of course. So he's willing to be lenient by offering you a lesser sentence, that's if you're willing to plead guilty and save us all the trouble of going through the trial drama. You will get life imprisonment instead of the usual death sentence that will be handed down if you're found guilty by the jury."
"Wow, how generous!" I say sarcastically. "Who is the clown that let himself be persuaded to lie against me? Is the person in court with us?"
'He's around but not inside the court, according to the lawyer. He claims they are taking precautions against any attack on his life. He would only come to court if there's a need for him to testify..."
"Yeah, yeah, yeah... Tell me who the idiot is already!" I say impatiently
"Owen..." He replies with a smile
"Owen!?... My dad's Beta!? Victoria's father!? He's the one that testified against me!?" I rapidly ask with surprise.
Why am I even surprised? Didn't my dad already tell us that he was the one that attacked him?
I'm more surprised about Carol and Victoria though. Victoria especially. I can't help but wonder if she and her mother know Owen has been alive all this while and still come pretending to me. I also wonder why they chose to help me conquer the patrol members if they knew he was alive and was going to testify against me at the trial. It doesn't make sense
"God, what a mess!" I say. "Owen committed treason, that means he will be put to death alongside his family members!" I say what we both know will certainly happen to him and his family according to law.
"Well, that's the law..." He replies, narrowing his eyes at me.
"You don't seem happy about this?... Why though?" He asks but continues talking without waiting for my reply
"We anticipated this victory, Thor! If not for your timely intervention, Knox would have been long dead! They planned to kill your father and set you up with the crime, thereby killing you too. I'm sure you don't need me to remind you of that fact so why are you feeling bad about them paying for their crimes?"
"I'm not feeling bad for Owen. I'm just wondering about his mate and their daughter. We don't know if they're also involved in this. Should they be made to pay for his sin?" I ask and he exhales loudly
"I'm afraid, yes. The only thing that can save them right now is if you're willing to plead guilty to what they're accusing you of, taking the fall for them. Otherwise, there's nothing we can do about it. The law is the law.
Moving on, I was supposed to reveal to them about your dad being alive inside the chamber but since I didn't do that. I will have to pretend like I don't know about it when Knox eventually reveals himself, do you understand?"
"Sure. How about they go in right now ahead of us?..."
"No, I'm not sure if that's a good idea..."
"Don't worry about it. I already mind-linked Ella to inform Eric. They know what to do so leave everything to them." I say and check my wristwatch for the time.
"I'm in the mood for caffeine. Do you want some?" I ask as Ivar and Bear appear from the top of the stairs. I included them in the mind-link when I talked to Ella so they are aware of the new plan to bring my dad into the court.
"Sure why not." Alpha Nate replies and we all walk back down the stairs
"Tell them I'll plead guilty to a much lesser sentence than life imprisonment. Tell them I'm ready to leave the country after serving my time." I told Alpha Nate while we were having our coffee
"Okay. Why, though? What's your plan? I hope you know they have no intention of allowing you to spend a day in a cell before having you executed?" He asked with a raised brow
"I want to see Owen testify to my face that I killed my dad. I'm not going to settle for just a video testimony. I mean who's to say he won't run the moment my dad reveals himself?"
"But if you agree to plead guilty, there's no need for the judge to call in the jury. That means they don't even need to play the video evidence to the people who are present"
I chuckle
"They will... Something tells me Evelyn won't be able to resist the temptation of playing their little video to the press and everyone present... You just have to convince them that you want proof that Owen is indeed alive and the video is not photoshopped. They'll be glad to oblige you."
We arrived back at the court.
"Counsellor, have you spoken with your client?" The judge asks Alpha Nate the moment he settles back into his seat
"Yes, your honor. May I approach the bench?" Alpha Nate asks and the judge beckons for the two lawyers to come closer to him.
The three of them huddle together as they whisper. When they're done talking, the two lawyers return to their seats while the judge addresses the court.
"As it stands, there's no need for me to bring in the jury. Because of the prosecutor's staggering evidence against the defendant, the defendant Mr. Thor Quinn has agreed to plead guilty to the murder of his father, Alpha Knox Silver..."
"Monster!... Bastard monster!..." Someone shouts inside the court not allowing the judge to finish his words and the court becomes abuzz with different voices of people cursing me.
The judge is supposed to stop the drama but he doesn't. I glance towards where he's sitting like a god to see the slight smile on his face. The son of a bitch is clearly enjoying himself too much to notice the court is beginning to get rowdy.
As he said earlier, It's his courtroom, he can do whatever he likes in it but if he thinks I'll sit back and allow myself to get mobbed by this crowd, then the joke is on him!
