Fated Tó The Evil Viking Chapter 25

I stand frozen behind my desk, while my father's words continue to play in my head even long after he has left…

'If I had just stayed away from her. If we had not come back together!'

"What the fuck!" I swear softly to myself and look at Eric when the realization of my dad's statement dawns on me

"Tell me you heard and understood what he said. Did you hear the part where he said 'If I had just stayed away from her if we had not come back together!'?

"Yeah! Did they really come back together? Considering how we're all aware of how they both felt about each other, is it possible for them to ever come back together without us knowing!?" Eric asks back at me looking as dumbfounded as I am.

"You heard what he said, didn't you!? And I don't think he would ever lie about such a thing just to have me hate him more...

I remember my last moments together with my mom. Especially the minutes before the dark wolves attacked. I thought the dark wolves were just ordinary werewolves and wanted to know why they were feared so much. You know, instead of her telling me about the monsters as I asked, she took her phone and called my dad like he was some kind of a hero

Right then, I thought her behavior was strange, I mean why would she want to call someone that she was not on speaking terms with out of the blue? Except if they've been talking behind my back all the while...

You know she told me 'Your father is on his way. Everything is going to be alright.' She made that statement with so much trust and belief in him like he'd always been a perfect example of what a father should be.

Even when she knew she might die at that very moment, she still had a hint of a smile on her face. She told me 'Whatever happens, I want you to listen to your father!'

"She said that!?" Eric asks with surprise

"Yes!... I never gave her words much thought because I thought she was losing her mind because of her fear of the dark wolves. Who would have thought they were back together!?

"Oh, boy!..." Eric exclaims softly

"Exactly! When did they come together? How could it have happened and I never knew? For how long were they together behind my back!?" I rapidly ask and try to think back to the last days my mom and I spent together... I remembered she smiled more and looked more lively. I thought she was getting over him, I would never imagine she was happier because they got back!"

"I'm going to talk to him!" I say as I walk toward the door.

"I'm coming with" Eric replies and follow behind me.

Even though I'm a warrior who had gone through different kinds of military training and can handle myself in any situation. I never thought of myself as invincible. I know I still need eyes to watch my back while at my dad's pack. So while I wait outside the mansion for Eric to get the car out of the garage, I bring out my phone and call Henrik, my captain, and Bear.

In the werewolf hierarchy, Henrik is my Delta, which is known as a third in command. Bear on his part has the position of an assassin in my uncle's pack. His real name is Axel. He got the nickname Bear because of his size. He is as big as he is tall, seven feet and two inches of not just pure brawn but also the brain.

Even though we trained together and he's part of my inner circle while in Denmark, I thought my uncle wouldn't want to let go of him and was surprised when he gave the permission to take him along with me to my new pack.

Eric pulls the car to a stop in front of me and I enter. He drives while Henrik and Bear come behind us in another car. We hadn't even driven out of my estate when Eric's phone started ringing.

"It's your dad's Beta." He says and fixes his earbuds before answering it. I watch him listen and notice his face transforms into a frown

"Calm down, where are you?" He asks my dad's Beta

"What's the matter?" I ask him

"Their car is being shot at and they might not be able to hold their attacker off for long." He says and steps hard on the accelerator.

I am shocked

"On my land!?" I ask in disbelief. "Where exactly are they right now?"

"He's not able to reply to me before the phone suddenly disconnected but I'm sure that they're nowhere near the estate, otherwise the Gammas patrolling would have noticed."

Three out of the four roads from the area's major intersection led to my estate. To find out the exact one my dad and his Beta took, I unlock my phone and access the estate's CCTV cameras. After driving for a while we arrive at my estate gate which automatically swings in, opening for us

"Go east," I tell Eric before calling Henrik and Bear on the phone to let them know the situation with my dad.

My estate is secluded so all roads that led to it are private. You have no business driving on these roads if you're not visiting the estate. We drive for another minute before we find my dad's Jeep Wrangler where it's lying on its side half inside a ditch.

Eric slows the car to a stop. From inside the car, it seems like their attacker is long gone but one can't be too sure. They could still be hiding behind the wood's tall trees, aided by the cover of darkness

Henrik and Bear shift and immediately dart into the woods on each side of the road. Eric also shifts but I don't, since my human form is as strong without my wolf making an appearance. I don't always shift when in battle except when I need to make use of my wolf's strong jaws.

We approach the car slowly, with my nose in the air, I sniff my surroundings to detect any signs of danger lurking around

"Wolfsbane... vampire venom... silver bullets!..." I growl as I pick up my pace, running towards my dad's car, no longer caring if I'm running into an ambush. Eric's wolf is a bit ahead of me.

We arrive where the car is lying, half inside the ditch. I look through the bullet-shattered window and see my dad lying alone unconscious and bleeding in the backseat. Immediately, I jump inside the ditch's murky water and hoist the car while Eric, who has already shifted back to his human form, pulls it from behind. Between us, we raise the Jeep and place it back on the road.

"The wood's clear!" I hear Bear announce from behind me as he jumps out of the wood, immediately shifting into his human form.

I wrench the car door off its hinges and reach inside to carry my dad out, placing him on the ground

"Where is his Beta?..." Eric asks over my shoulder as I check for my dad's pulse.

"I found something!" I also hear Henrik say as I bend over my dad.

There's no time for me to check out what he found, we'll have enough time for that later after we save my dad

"How is he?..." Eric asks again over my shoulder

"He's alive but barely. His pulse is very weak," I reply as I lift my dad into my arms, half running toward the car.

"Eric, search your phone for the nearest Shifter's hospital around here!" I say. The estate's medic had not been set up yet so taking him back there is not an option. I place him in the passenger seat, reclining the chair to the back so he'll be comfortable before taking the driver's seat.

"The nearest Shifter's hospital is on the Night Howlers Pack land," Eric tells me and reaches over from the back seat to connect his phone to the car's automotive navigation system.

I drive down the road like a bat out of hell till I get to the intersection and turn left. After I watched my mom and Eric's parents being murdered, I became like a block of ice, cold with no other emotions but anger. Nothing scares me, nothing makes me sad and nothing makes me overly happy.

This is the second time I'm having an emotional meltdown in twenty-four hours. The first was the intense jealousy and murderous rage I felt when I dreamt about my mate in the arms of another shifter. This second time is fear. I fear for my dad's life to the point I start to pray inside my heart for the Moon goddess to spare his life.

Even though I thought my mom hated my dad back then, deep down within me, I feared she was still in love with him. But even if that was the case, I knew my mom would never go back to him just because of her feelings for him.

There must be a reason why she agreed to be with him the second time. There must be a reason why she told me to always listen to him but I never took her seriously since I never would have believed in my wildest dreams that she was serious

"They're expecting us with their best medical team on standby" Eric's voice breaks into my thoughts and I turn toward him not knowing what he was talking about

"What? Who is that?" I ask because I wasn't paying attention when he was making the calls. I was too lost in my thoughts.

"I just finished speaking with the Alpha of the Night Howler's pack. I called him right and he said his best medical team will be on standby for our arrival'
